Good idea to start coming up with some good house rule concepts in creating a card market. Still waiting on my copy to arrive, but can clearly understand you that with this game a card market can spice things up tactically.
I ask because my buddy showed me his and I really wish I had the upgraded components. The zombies in particular looked awesome. You handle these components so much they are going to be nice.
I almost backed this one but already have too many games on my shelf of shame, so I held off. I do hope to play both Creature Caravan and Wondrous Creatures some time though.
Played a few times and will definitely try to house rule the card market! I honestly think that is the missing piece of making this a near perfect game.
Drawing cards is much more important than it seems like at first in this game. Don't forget, though, you can always discard 3 cards for a gold, which is what you should probably be doing towards the end with all of those useless cards you have. As long as someone else hasn't already locked up the entire gold market, you can always try for points that way. I feel like the limited cards you see is one of the things that drives strategy in this game. You've got to focus on one or two cards early on, you won't be able to build everything in your hand. That gives you a focus early, and as you see more cards, you can dig into that deeper, or start giving yourself more options. Since card combos can score really big, you can focus on trying to dig though cards to find those, or you can put that effort into zombies, or moving, or trading, all of which can also give you big points. The more I've played it, and especially at bigger player counts where the markets fill up faster, the more I appreciate the rate at which you are able to get through the cards.
I get all that, this doesn’t change the fact that you dice are limited which limits card draw and end game hands in my games are littered with inconsequential cards. Of course go to the market but then you have a ton of bread with no home at the end of the game.

I said this in my review on BGG and got roasted for it. These negatives are killers for me. This game isn’t great and relies WAY too much on luck.
