    Nice bumper design , great winch.
    The synthetic rope is nice to work with, a lot lighter. But an old school winch like the 8274 needs an old school cable.
    I have a friend that has a 8274 on a Toyota Tacoma extended cab. With the weight of the taco, he went with 200 ft of 5/16 cable. Handles the weight great, and if you did that cable on the Jeep with as light as it is, 5//16 will handle your recovery requirements with no problem.
    The other consideration is I have been in situations where my 100 ft cable was short, and having to shackle tow strap’s together to get to a suitable anchor. With 200 ft cable, I don’t think you would ever have that issue.
    Great video, great content.

    Classic winch, nice bumper! I would keep the cable, would be a shame to put rope on that nice classic winch!!

    That bumper looks great. I like the rope over the wire cable, it is a lot lighter to work with.

    A synthetic winch rope made with varying shades of grey and red to simulate rusty, galvanized cable would be a good seller, I'd bet.

    if you use a lot and don't mind keeping i clean go with rope. if you are going to play in the mud and not keep cable clean go with wire cable. i have both. but what i understand mud and dirt inside the rope if not cleaned regularly will ruin the rope

      @SevenBarSalvage  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve never heard that before but it makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

      @@SevenBarSalvage i have seen mat on mats off road recovery wash his before and also said dirt would ruin them and also mad maxx also stated would ruin rope on winch the sand inside is like sand paper. you also cannot let rope rub on anything where wire doesn't care

    being the wrench is located up front the jeep, how much air blockage will effect the cooling air to the radiator? i have one set up like this but as long as the temperature is showing normal range. it should be fine.

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  4 місяці тому

      It should be a lot better than most 8274 setups but I won’t know until I get it on the trail! Thanks!

    I was wondering if you plan to add something to the winch mount to prevent theft? Many of those Warn winches can be taken by thieves in a matter of minutes.....ask me how I know.....Russell D.

      I was going to show this after I rebuild it and mount it. I’ve got some 7/16 button heads I was going to use to mount it and then weld the hex and grind down the head to look like a rivet. The biggest tamper proof bolt I could find was an m10. Any suggestions? Thank you!

      @@SevenBarSalvage As I remember, some guys found a way to chain and lock the winch into place. I was thinking about some sort of a hitch lock where one could simply use a key to undo the lock of the "hitch", then slide the bolt out, etc. Just something to 'ponder'.....hope that helps. ......Russell D.

    I wound up using synthetic rope with a roller fair lead on my 8274. Have used it a few times without issue. I installed a CJ 5 winch plate on my B. Had to modify it to work with factory bumper.
    You do a great job on your vids keep them coming

    Very nice build!!!!! Looks good on the front of your jeep. Synthetic rope is very strong and a lot safer so that’s what I would use. You do very good work.

    From experience I would use rope over cable. If ur ever worried about it breaking, order and carry a spare in ur under seat toolbox.

  • @BillyTpower

    stay old school and go cable. No doubt rope is better but would look out of place on that rig. imo

    I don’t know about that gomer. I’d go back to the drawing board or better yet get a drawing board. That bumpers gonna pull itself in half if you ever get stuck real bad. And I’m still up in the air over the welds.

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  2 роки тому +2

      Haha I appreciate your concern but I think I’ll bend the frame before I bend the bumper… and if it does break I’ll just build something better! Try not to lose any sleep over it 😉
