The sandpaper tips are so helpful here, it's the most confusing thing to begin with. The thing that helped me understand it best years ago was "a rock is 1 grit". This sounds really silly until you think about how many bits of gravel or how many grains of sand, would take up the same space as a rock, suddenly the grit numbers make sense. The finer the particles, the more of them you can get in the space the higher your grit number.
Great tips on the furniture moving too, especially those pads, it's so hard shifting heavy pieces on your own. The lifting technique you showed of kicking the pad under the furniture is a back-saver, really good see some smart lifting there. If you're trying to move furniture on carpetted floors you can use jam jar lids and even some plastic takeaway lids to work as skids.

If I'm understanding you right, mix in a little paint with the clear poly finish and that will "fill in" or hide any brush marks? I'll definitely give this a try, makes good sense when I think about it...

Not quite. If you have visible brush marks try using 400 grit sandpaper over your piece to lightly sand them flat. To prevent brush strokes altogether use a high quality brush or invest in a cheap sprayer. When you are painting apply thin layers of paint and build up your coverage in layers. This way if you get a lot of brush strokes on any one layer, you can sand them as they appear. If you have applied too much paint at once & you have a lot of brush strokes, it will be harder to fix. I also use a water mister as I am painting to keep the paint wet as I'm applying it, which makes it easier to manipulate. And I try to avoid painting in all different directions. I do long, thin strokes. You can check out a few of my furniture flips to see my painting technique. Here's a good one to start with: ua-cam.com/video/kwAvxkgXoT0/v-deo.html
If you are using a dark color add a little paint into your poly topcoat to prevent the topcoat from looking hazy as it will sometimes do with darker colors.

Andersonville, Tennessee here! Can you actually sand a piece of furniture that you're wanting to stain too much?

Hello! Im originally from TN too. Born in Memphis! Yes...kinda. If you sand too much you can create recessed areas. I have stayed in one spot for too long with the sander on solid wood and created dents that stuck out like I sore thumb when I went to stain . Also, if a piece is not solid wood, and you continue to sand through the outer layer, you will reach particle board or some other material beneath the outer layer that will absorb stain differently from the outer material. It will look bad. You will need to wood fill, sand it smooth and paint at that point.
