    Have you done EMDR? What would you say about length of treatment?

    • @rsgreen30
      @rsgreen30 3 роки тому

      First round--two sessions a week with EMDR-only therapist and then a third session (often in between) with my regular therapist, for seven weeks.
      Start again in a few weeks for a similar cycle. It was a slow slog, 1.5 memories in all that time. But my brain scooped up a bunch of other stuff and filed it away when we were working. That stuff is less potent now too, along with the original memories.

    Virtual EMDR has been life changing to me. I almost like it better than in person EMDR because I had a therapist who was judgemental, so processing the trauma felt unsafe. Virtual EMDR has helped my life to begin to take on a sense of normalcy after years of living with cptsd but I know that there is more work to be done. Combining the virtual emdr with internal family systems therapy has been amazing for me and I have processed my multiple complex traumas down to a mostly manageable level. Give it a try if you can

    Your explanations are simply great! Thank you for so much valuable information. I just started a EMDR therapy after years of PTSD and the very first session gave me hope for the very first time. I was already healing, but stocked in anxiety and night swelling. Now, I am doing more hipnosis and emdr meditations between sessions, what is helping me to better handling my emotions. I feel relieved for hours, what didn't happen for years. I enjoy your useful and calmed videos, as they lead me to better understanding of the entire process. Thank you for your work and best from Spain!

      Hi Belén; I'm glad knowing you found a good therapist to work on your PTSD. I have C-PTDS, a life-long trauma and I have made some EMDR but it's really hard to find a therapist who just want my money (I had a terrible experience with one who traumatized me even more) and the one I am now is too expensive besides I realized that the therapist (who is coming to be considered as a guru, nowadays) has "women issues"; a misogynist.
      I am looking for self help methods because I can't afford the sessions.
      Saludos desde Andalucía ☘️

    I have been doing EMdr and ACT with a therapist for c-ptsd for the past year and half. Your videos, webinar, pdf have been incredibly helpful. There are two other UA-cam therapists i follow who also deal with ACT principles. I have learned so much, i am a completely new person when it comes to regulating my emotions. I appreciate all that you do. Ty

    Thank you for your content, your videos has helped me a lot 🌹 Can EMDR be successful even your therapist isn't specialized in complex trauma? I'm working with a cognitive behavioural psychologist and so far, we haven't even discussed emotional regulation tools and techniques and went almost straight to EMDR sessions. I'm worried that it's going too fast, and that I have the wrong therapist - and I'm afraid that It'll potentially worsen my trauma symptoms. I don't know what's the wisest decision here, as I only have the summer months to dedicate to EMDR therapy. I've done EMDR with another therapist before, so I already have some prior experience. Help?

      Hi: I definitely can't give advice via social media... If someone has already done EMDR successfully, I do probably adapt the process. But I always encourage people to bring up concerns with their therapist!

    I do not “have access” to the memories that I need to heal, I cannot remember them, I know how bad my traumas are because my sisters who are 10 years older than me - -they told me. My brain does not let me “go there” What can be done in this situation please? I have complex ptsd, severe anxiety, clinical depression , mood disregulation 🙏thank you

      Doing EMDR is like peeling the layers of an onion. As you go, other memories come up. For what I know, triggers are clues for finding out those original traumas. Good luck and best wishes 💖

    I witnessed my toddler sister enduring a highly traumatic incident and don't think she's aware of it. I'm torn between wanting to tell her, so she might get help and thinking telling her might do more harm than good - maybe especially from an estranged older sister. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Do you have experience with depersonalization? Is it possible to recover from?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  3 роки тому +5

      Yes, people can recover from depersonalization and other dissociative disorders. A therapist who is trained in EMDR with experience in dissociation would be my first choice for this.

    Maam, does EMDR help with OCD and perfectionism?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  Рік тому

      Hi: I think EMDR can definitely help with perfectionism, and there are also protocols for OCD. In my experience, OCD could interrupt the processing, and in my opinion the best researched method for OCD incorporates exposure therapy. Wishing you the best.

    The closure thing was well-explained. We've elected to leave mine open during different rounds of treatment, and I likened it to a blowing gas line on a fire scene. It can be intense, but it has worked for me. Lots got done, as miserable as it was.

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, this is a challenging decision for client and therapist. It can be helpful to leave things open, but also difficult!
