For all historical inaccuracies in this movie, Braveheart is still the best "historical" film portraying English as evil bastards - much better than Joan of Arc from 1999 or even Patriot. In all of those films, English were just shown as cartoonishly evil and even though this same happen to the extend in Braveheart as well, it at least had Edward Longshanks as legitimately cunning, inteligent and to certain extend enjoyable opponent and it shows Scotts as morally compromised and corruptible people as well - so at least it's not entirely black and white conflict. Heck, even this so called Goblin-man had emotional reaction to execution of girl he tried to r... - he may want to r... her but he didn't wished her dead... I remember when i was a kid the 2nd big battlescene was filmed just outside my hometown in ireland. And the first battle scene was filmed outside a military base also in ireland ( a lot of the extras were members of the irish army ) and funny thing is now that im in the military and stationed in that same base i have to run up and down that bitch of a hill all the time
I barely remember anything about this movie, even though it used to be on TV about at least once a month just a couple years ago. I hope that it's just because of my constantly degrading memory and not because it's a bad movie. My only clear memory is that of the Scottish warriors showing their hams to the enemy army... I'm not complaining but it's odd that my brain chose this specifically. I also remember there being a lot of screaming and all armour being made of butter. I know that this movie is iconic so hopefully it'll hold up and we'll all have a good time.
The battles in this movie are completely wrong. Stirling was fought at a bridge and they let English half cross the bridge before attacking. Falkirk had no flaming oil and pitch. Was more of a typical battle but basically the schiltrons formed up with archers in between. English cavalry chases away the Scottish archers but cant breach the pike formations. So the english just shot the shiltrons to pieces. The final battle which is suppose to be bannockburn. Was fought near a stream and bogs. And in that battle is when the small unit of Scottish cavalry attacked the longbowmen which had moved around the flank to fire into the Scottish pike schiltrons.
Currently doing a research project regarding depictions/use of the Scots in modern Hollywood films - with a particular focus on Braveheart - and I can confirm that this film is incredibly inaccurate.
Equilibrium, I knew that The Longman is a man of culture. BTW, you should also introduce these peasants form the USA to the Sharpe series, jokes about Sean Bean dying in every movie would've end. Sharpe and Hornblower (despite its gae name 😛) are great series.

Patrick McGoohan was such a great actor. Highly recommend the Columbo episodes where he was the villain, and the Prisoner series where he starred.

I barely remember anything about this movie, even though it used to be on TV about at least once a month just a couple years ago. I hope that it's just because of my constantly degrading memory and not because it's a bad movie.
My only clear memory is that of the Scottish warriors showing their hams to the enemy army... I'm not complaining but it's odd that my brain chose this specifically.
I also remember there being a lot of screaming and all armour being made of butter.
I know that this movie is iconic so hopefully it'll hold up and we'll all have a good time.
Also, I keep forgetting how handsome Mel Gibson was and in a way still is... This has nothing to do with the movie, I'm just reminiscing.
The battles in this movie are completely wrong. Stirling was fought at a bridge and they let English half cross the bridge before attacking. Falkirk had no flaming oil and pitch. Was more of a typical battle but basically the schiltrons formed up with archers in between. English cavalry chases away the Scottish archers but cant breach the pike formations. So the english just shot the shiltrons to pieces. The final battle which is suppose to be bannockburn. Was fought near a stream and bogs. And in that battle is when the small unit of Scottish cavalry attacked the longbowmen which had moved around the flank to fire into the Scottish pike schiltrons.
I just take the age of empires campaign as canon
