    In the past I've knocked a few large headed galvanised felt nails in the underside of wall plates to give the mortar something to hold on to. I know gravity should stop it moving but I've seen wallplates that have moved a bit on older buildings.

      @@Mr_A_Builders I have seen an engineer spec 10x140mm frame fixings at 1m centres down the middle of the wall plate. Once there mortar has gone off of course. Seems like it might help stop any movement from breaking the joint, but pretty belt and braces.

    Finger trowel, Slicker, Fugspiker depending on where in the world you are. If ime doing soffit on top of frame I use Eaves Lintols which are designed for this as for wall plates depending on the builder or if its my job I find it better to get the blockwork spot on height and no bed then screw the plate to the blockwork dry that way it's easy to get all imperfections and bows out of the plate.

    Can you share more about reusing materials from one job on another?
    I’m wondering if any of the clients watching would feel miffed about something taken out their house being reused rather than disposed as they (presumably) expected, or the new building clients feeling hard done by for not getting new materials.
    Do you need to be explicit with everyone?

    • @Mr_A_Builders
      @Mr_A_Builders  Рік тому +2

      Hello grassfolk1, hope you're well. If the customer wants thing thrown away and we can see a use for it then it gets used again. Anyone who has an issue with materials being reused and would rather they go to landfill can go swivel as far as we're concerned! The same customer wouldn't mind in the slightest if we used reclaimed bricks to match their house so that voids any argument they may have. Not that I've ever had a customer be so silly, and I've had some silly customers!

      @Mr_A_Builders  Рік тому +1

      Hello Craig. I think it's ace, I'd always recommend them. I know that they are cheap (comparatively) but I had a really expensive Stabila one once, when it broke I took it to get fixed and was told that they don't make them anymore so they didn't supply the parts even though they still sold the complete tool for nearly £700. I feel.for anyone who paid that thinking that they were covered if it went wrong. So i bought this one for just over £100, I was obviously dubious at first but I've got to say it's been fantastic and I don't mean that as in it's good for the money, I mean it as I think it's fantastic even if I paid a lot more for it.

    1:4 is far too strong for LBC commons . It also makes the muck ugly . 1:4 is the BS for engineering bricks . Pointing in is the lost craft . The correct mix should be 1:1:6:.

      I've used 5:1 on these bricks before and have had issues, but I know where you're coming from Eddie. Appreciate the comment.

    I looks like this dormer loft was build on the outer wall and I'm wondering why some people build them on inner walls. Are there any rules apart from minimum 20 cm from eves? 🤔

    • @Mr_A_Builders
      @Mr_A_Builders  Рік тому

      Hello Daniel. This dormer was built off the inner skin, you shouldn't have any issues with the weight transferring down by doing that, but it's still got to be all 'speced' out.
