    My Dad served his time in the 50's, I served my time in the 70's. I have never, ever seen a brickie walling bricks on his knees. I'm out of the buildings now and thank God. I don't even recognise Bricklaying anymore. 90% of them can't build a corner and the rest couldn't lay in bed straight.

      Ever had osteopo arthritis in both hips . If you did you would understand why I need to kneel for the first few courses . I served my time in the eighties and I can build a corner and lay a bed straight .
      If you’re so glad to be out of it why are you watching it on UA-cam?

    My neighbour employed a bunch of what turned out to be Cowboys in the middle of July to build 2 walls. After 5 months, 6 brickies and a load of hassle, it was all finished today. Thats after the initial company went bust. Yes now middle of December from middle July. Then some wonder why tradespeople get bad names. Hats off to this guy, hes done more in a day than Roy Rogers and Co did in 3 months.

    When we bought our house in the 1980s it has a single line brick wall at the front of the house bordering the street and it had collapsed. It was rebuilt with double brick thickness and it's still holding up to this day. We found out though that brick walls are expensive. It cost us £1000 back then. It was under 19ft wide (excluding the gap for the path and garden gate).

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild
      @SteveAndAlexBuild  Рік тому

      Yes a single skin wall is never ideal unless it’s very low .

    Hi, I have a quick question and this could be because the way the footage has been taken but the coping stone on the pier seems to be sticking out a lot. Just for anyone's benefit, I am just a keen 'diyer' rather than any kind of trades so it could be a simple answer to this. I am aware that you have to allow for some space between the wall and the edge of the coping stone for the rain water to drip down. Thanks.

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild

    Daft question but as a 9 inch wall wouldn’t an English bond be stronger. Did the owner have any preference?

    Seems to me that the metalwork expansion pushed the pillars apart and weakened the whole wall. Metal and brick dont go together dont you agree?

    You make it look easy, but bricklaying is physical, you need a labourer

    The garden wall don't look good but where is the danger here, it's not high so it can't fall on anyone. The house owners might of had a go there self's as might not had the money to pay for a bricklayer, seen worse walls

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild
      @SteveAndAlexBuild  Рік тому

      It’s dangerous if a kid decides to swing in the railings . It was in a state due to rust damage 🧱👍🏽

    Why dangerous

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild
      @SteveAndAlexBuild  Рік тому

      Because it could fall over if it was leaned on or pushed 🧱👍🏽
