  • For Deena Al-Sammak, founder of HarmonEase Innovations Inc., there wasn’t a single moment that sparked her desire to become an entrepreneur. Rather, the third-year student in the Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences (iBioMed) program, said a collection of experiences fueled her drive to create a positive impact. Moments like hearing a person describe how an assistive device helps them work out, or seeing a child’s face light up when an assistive device allows them to use their hand to draw or paint, or a pianist with limited hand mobility playing her favourite song. A pianist herself, Al-Sammak says the latter was especially meaningful. Now, through the Residency certificate program at The Clinic, Al-Sammak is working on a device to help people with limited mobility play the piano.
The Clinic is a 3,000-square-foot creative hub that serves as an epicentre for health innovation and entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University.
Here is an inside look at the journey of two entrepreneurs as they turn their innovations into impact through the Health Innovation Bootcamp and Residency program offered at The Clinic.
