Me too i just wanted to leave Lake of Rot (didnt know i could fast travel to the other side of the underground map) and thought “rest in coffin” meant it was an exit. Then BOOM, a big magical scorpion in a beautiful arena
I managed to beat this boss first try and thought this boss was super easy, but when I saw this video I realised that I got suuuper lucky as the boss didn't use like half of his moveset, which were the heavy hitting ones
A teleport flying grab is quite cheesy. Fromsoft really laying on the cheese extra thick in elden ring. His tail reaches across the entire arena and hits twice so you dodge the first bit and eat the second. Bosses hover for 10 seconds in the air, every boss has flight and half have teleports.
I actually found this boss one of the more manageable ones with Colossal swords due to how much endlag there is on those magic swipes. If you manage a dodge roll past it, you can get 2 full power stances in on the head with Colossal swords without any real risk. And that's like 1500 damage for me. Meanwhile, half the bosses in this game have infinite poise and can dodge roll halfway across the room on frame one of getting up. Those are the one where I'm REALLY regretting going Strength.
I think you’re right about the insta-kill. I’m at level 90 with 40 vigor and he killed me at max health. I used your tips and managed to beat him after I got my timing on dodging his attacks worked out.
This boss looks so incredibly good. He is terrifying once you enter. That beam and his figure. The music fits the boss too. Fromsoft games are literally the best
Tip: get close dodge an attack and use dragon rot breath. Now grab your heavy shield and start walking away and doodging. When he teleporrs run and check your surroundings so you can dodge into his bite attack. Its pretty easy if you do this
Oh no really?? They might've patched it yeah idk, there has been a couple patches this week maybe they did? Have you got other types of dragon breaths? Maybe one of the others does more damage? Like frost or something?
Im playing with out a patch (I have no internet right now) so maybe that has something to do with it, but this boss actually says "misbegotten of the void" and I think the boss plays a little different too, he always opened up with the cataclysm attack and it was always 3 meteors that came after me. Fight was definitely my favorite of the game so far!
@@cooltjh4 yeah, well not only that but a certain fight that's kicking my ass right now (I won't say the name if care about spoilers) is so damn difficult but it's different in the updated version, the fight gets way easier. I'm only just playing elden ring 2 years later, First run through, first souls game and you helped me beat this first go kudos, really well explained thanks a bunch 🤩
I absolutely love the visuals on this boss. I think it’s one of my favorite designs in the game so far. It’s such a shame most of the hit boxes are horrible. I think about 90% of my deaths to this dude were from that one flying grab attack. This might be the post-boss fight salt speaking, but there were multiple attacks that missed me by a couple feet that the game registered as hits… Not to mention one time at the flying grab attack when I was far away from the boss and got warped into his mouth. Still, I think this is one of the prettiest looking boss fights in the souls games.
The atttack were his right hand glows and then pushes out the orb forwards for some reason hits me at his head kinda regularly when the atttack clearly missed :/
Nah you're right, every boss outside of limgrave I'd shotty. It's almost like they gave up making good bosses after the network testing area cos my attacks go right through this boss and radahn
@@Spoilburg72685 That is probably because of how Astel is designed. If you stay under him, he's like, so lanky that you can't hit anything. The only thing you can consistently hit is his head, which fortunately is the weakest point of his body. I still think the oneshot grab is bullshit though like, what, who thought that oneshot grab is a good idea. I've never liked bosses that just oneshot you and that oneshot is completely RNG, in any game, so least to say, Astel was definitely not amongst the fights I liked. Radahn on the other hand though, holy fuck that was a cool fight.
I defeated him at SL70, only melee, hopefully some of my advice will help you: 1. Use jump attacks to the head/neck, whenever he does any of that purple mist explosive, they are easy to dodge, then 2-3 attacks does a fair amount of damage, use the Talisman to boost jump attacks as well. 2. He always does the meteor shower attack when he gets to second phase, make sure you either have a Mixed-Phsykick that negates damage and pop it at second phase, or at least enough HP to tank one meteor, you’ll likely get hit. In my experience running TOWARDS him is better than away from him. 3. Also make sure you have enough HP to tank his “Dr. Strange” attack, anything above 800 will do the trick I think. 4. Stay close to him at all times, if he teleports lock off of him and run around, if he teleports close to you, wait until you see the head, only then roll to dodge his insta-kill. 5. When he does the ground gravity explosive attack if you stay under him, the first 2 dodges can be done instantly after each other, but delay the third a bit, it changes tempo, once you see it it’ll be easy to dodge. Good luck, don’t be greedy stay consistent! He is a 5 minute fight if you’re getting your jump attacks in.
@@banuner_ Radahn wasn't HARD, just extremely unfair. Like, horseback fight but have to dismount to dodge the meteor arrows. But just use spells while rhalloping and spam the npc summons. And just throw a spell when u get an opening.
If you're a sorceror, use rock sling on his head and it'll set him up for a critical hit. Also, during meteor ohaze, run directly through him to his back while dodging. Dodged every meteor all three times
I used rocks once a few times and was like “meh” and went to my spellsword was, and then thought why not after around my 20th try, and the rock sling absolutely destroyed him!
Rock sling and Meteor staff is broken. No boss in the game can do anything about it. Along with mimic tear ash you're never gonna have any serious problems in the game.
@@sarahbrunton1375 it's the cheesiest way I could figure it out. Still took a while though. Also use the opaline bubblegear and intelligence tear for your physick flask. If you deal more damage with magic then melee u can either spam cast a few times or get the critical stab
May be I was over leveled for this fight (90) but I found it quite easy. I used the grafted blade which has an overhead strike that, not only did a lot of damage, but also caught the body of the boss in every hit. I managed to beat him in my first try, thanks to your tutorial. Which was not easy to begin with because I started the fight with only a few HP flasks and one MP flask. I managed to strike it down with both hands, disregarding any and all protection. Thanks!
If your gonna use a heavy weapon on this boss fight I learned that it is best to get between 1-2 hits then back off from the boss and wait till an easily punishable move and again get between 1-2 hits before backing off. Don’t get greedy if your useing a heavy weapon that will get you killed
I put bloodhound quickstep on my zwihander and it’s insanely good for this fight cause you can kinda abuse the I frames from it to just dash through most of his shockwaves and stay up his ass the entire time. Don’t know if you’ve tried it but it helped me still be able to use my big swords in fights like this.(it dose take a bit to get used to you play unlocked a lot of the time to free aim your dodges and attacks) but works very well when you get the hang of it.
This was nasty...but having invested everything in my big strength collossal swords I was unwilling to swap, turns out it paid off. Using Stamp (Upward Slice) you can go giga damage and stagger this boi hard for a big finisher, he just had to behave long enough, two finishers and he was done.
Man the mimic tear is no joke, I beat him on 5th try. I have it +4 and my summon just spammed meteorite spell and I used rock sling from a distance and moonveil when he gets close. Easy staggers! He went into 2nd phase with about a quarter health.
@@gv4338 use black tiche spirit ashes now and hoarfrost on your weapon. It’s nerfed but still works good. Although Mimic is still good. Edit: bloodhounds fang is great, especially with mimic. I just killed her on my new game plus with that, though I still died like 15 times. Melania sucks so bad.

I actually used the Starscourage Greatsword (mine was +9). Thanks for the tips especially hitting it in the skull as a priority. I would jump attack and it would knock about 1/6 of the health off the boss!! Roll a ton until he teleports and then rush him once he does the laser beam attack. Done. I died once and got him!
Latenna +9 trivialises this fight, she does so much damage all you have to do is survive. She shoots from the fog gate and the boss never targets her unless he teleports next to her
Great boss! Not super difficult but you have to pay attention to what its going to do otherwise you will get one shot or two tapped. I recommend you are at minimum level 90 as you will need very high damage and health to beat this boss. Side note, this boss drops a remembrance to craft a flail and a gravity based AOE ash of war for colossal, great axe, or war hammers ONLY, and its currently bugged so hold off on getting it. To get Astel’s meteorite sorcery, you need to fight the second version of this boss in the snow mountain region.
For me I don't stay long being underneath him. That is where he use those AOE attacks that are just hard to predict. I just be in front of him and bait him to do those slow attack then get in jump attack his head and 1 or 2 hits there then get out again. Lots of bosses in this game have AOE so you can't exploit like we used to in previous Souls game.
Forget up close, I used the Great Golem Bow with Radahn's arrows and the arrow's Sting Talisman. You can keep distance and react well enough to attacks, just be mindful of stamina usage and the boss' sudden movements.
my issue im having is, when i get close enough to actually hit him, i cant see anything else. its like my camera zooms right in and im inside my character. then i get nailed with anything and everything he throws.
OMG thank you so much. I watched some other Guides before but it was your Guide that made me Finally succeed 😍 One Guy was level 250+ and said its super easy if you this and that...🙄
Yea I saw that video. I think some people farmed up runes, got super high level, then started making guides. To each their own, but I didn't find it super helpful when I was struggling on this boss, either.
Moonveil Katana's heavy attack does a lot of poise damage to him, 3 or 4 hits and you get a crit, plus it auto tracks the head so aiming is really easy
My advice is to get the Black Knife off the Black Knife Assassin in the Altus Plateau upgrade it to at least a +7 and then use Mimic. It took me 3 times to beat him using the Blade of Death skill on the knife at a level 75. But It seemed to work pretty well👍🏽
One of my favorite Souls bosses now. Amazing art direction, weird cool attacks, decent difficulty, great lore - love it. And it looks like its made of cosmic blueberries
Also if u run to the back wall of the cave let it teleport and it'll keep on teleporting in the same spot, just dodge roll when hes about to teleport and boom easy kill
I was really struggling with this boss, so I just left it and came back later. I found out, that the boss is really easy with the Sword of Night and Flame from Caria Manor. The light special attack deals huge damage to him and I beat him in the first try.
Heads up I don't know for sure, but I tested it for a good hour, it appears he doesn't teleport to do a death grab if you are hugging the wall when he teleports.
I killed the boss easy second try I just used Lhutel the headless as a summon because he can tank a lot of the attacks and just did jump attacks at his head
@@marian_tsx bro the spells aren’t that broken. It still cost a ton of FP and they don’t do that much dmg. He chucks a lot of projectiles and teleports so it still wouldn’t be the biggest advantages

Thanks, your video helped a lot with this boss. Also, I have 40 vigor, 43 with a talisman, and I did not get 1 shot by the crazy grab. Had maybe 15-20% hp left
I beat this boss on my first go I was not particularly hard but I died when he used his meteor rain but my magic killed it before I died This boss looks so cool my favourite design so far
I have 1.2k health and every single grab move this boss has will 100-0 me. Considering that the teleport grab literally comes out of nowhere this boss is off the charts on my BS-meter.
I got here over leveled I think as I took him out first time. I barely survived the first beam blast but dodged them afterwards. My mimic summon kept him distracted the whole time.
If you want to make this fight a joke as a melee build use the bloodhounds fang and spam its weapon arc at his head. If you time it well enough you can use it to dodge through his giant gravity attack too.
For sorcerers, use bloodhound step. Easy win. Also, when meteors come right at you and you see he’s casting it, go forward! You wont get hit. Works like a charm. Getting as far as possible just punishes you bc now youll have to come near him once again.

That rotten breath dragon move was so helpful in this battle. That one shot move was literally the only reason why I was dying.
bro you literally saved my life. Been trying it for days now and with this strat I finally did it.
It's really helpful but u have to be really careful
I discovered this boss on my own without seeing any spoilers, was an amazing feeling. I'm absolutely loving this game.
How? How the FUCK did you manage to do all of the steps in this quest that lead you here without outside help? 🤣

Me too i just wanted to leave Lake of Rot (didnt know i could fast travel to the other side of the underground map) and thought “rest in coffin” meant it was an exit. Then BOOM, a big magical scorpion in a beautiful arena
@@hallludba you know you can click down the thumb stick to show the overworld and fast travel right out of there too, right?
I managed to beat this boss first try and thought this boss was super easy, but when I saw this video I realised that I got suuuper lucky as the boss didn't use like half of his moveset, which were the heavy hitting ones
A teleport flying grab is quite cheesy. Fromsoft really laying on the cheese extra thick in elden ring. His tail reaches across the entire arena and hits twice so you dodge the first bit and eat the second. Bosses hover for 10 seconds in the air, every boss has flight and half have teleports.
Not liking this boss fight, but I'm hopeful with your guide I can do this, cheers
Agreed. Did it after about 15 tries with the star scourge Great-swords
malenia be like
I think you’re right about the insta-kill.
Its pretty easy if you do this
Legit worked first try cheers!
worked the first time i did this great tip
Thanks for the tip. Worked great
This does zero damage to him. Was this patched?
Oh no really?? They might've patched it yeah idk, there has been a couple patches this week maybe they did? Have you got other types of dragon breaths? Maybe one of the others does more damage? Like frost or something?
Died a couple times, watched this and I got it right away! Thanks man
Im playing with out a patch (I have no internet right now) so maybe that has something to do with it, but this boss actually says "misbegotten of the void" and I think the boss plays a little different too, he always opened up with the cataclysm attack and it was always 3 meteors that came after me. Fight was definitely my favorite of the game so far!
u might find out alot of things u collected will turn into different things when u do update...
@@cooltjh4 yeah, well not only that but a certain fight that's kicking my ass right now (I won't say the name if care about spoilers) is so damn difficult but it's different in the updated version, the fight gets way easier. Yup, they changed his name. A better translation is simply "child" but I think they felt that wasnt as grandiose.

Thanks for uploading this, I was really struggling and seeing someone beat it the old fashioned way was refreshing!
Yeah this boss feels pretty cheap just spamming big aoe attacks.
@@sp0ckz0mbi3 I just got to the fire giant, now that's a cheap pile of shit boss
I defeated him at SL70, only melee, hopefully some of my advice will help you:
So basically the game is jump attack to win.
@@pajeetsingh Always has been.
Your not fighting the boss you’re fighting the god damn camera

god damnit that one shot grab got me two times when he was at 5% or less
I beat him!!!! Best feeling ever!! Thanks for the tips!
This boss is making me want Radhan back. >.
No Radahn is way worse
@@banuner_ Radahn wasn't HARD, just extremely unfair. Like, horseback fight but have to dismount to dodge the meteor arrows. But just use spells while rhalloping and spam the npc summons. And just throw a spell when u get an opening.
@@MrXXXRyanoceros I completely agree. It was a poorly designed boss.
@@banuner_ yeah, when a boss is DESIGNED to be unfair it's pretty frustrating.
With radhan you just had to inflict scarlet rot twice and run around resummoning npcs, here you actually have to play the game, for the most part
Perfect guide. Had lost like 10x in a row, watched this guide, beat him my very next attempt
2:13 damn the animation here is amazing
Ooooo spooky!
This guy is absolutely WRECKING me. And I had very little trouble with Radahn.
You deserve love and happiness thank you so much
@@sarahbrunton1375 it's the cheesiest way I could figure it out. Still took a while though. Also use the opaline bubblegear and intelligence tear for your physick flask. If you deal more damage with magic then melee u can either spam cast a few times or get the critical stab
Rock Sling was the ticket. Thank you for saving me hours of hitting my head against this wall.
Thanks!
I’ve fought him so many times now and all he uses is that drop down grab move over and over ☹️, the head tip was great advise.
Defeated it while watching this guide thanks you!
This was nasty...but having invested everything in my big strength collossal swords I was unwilling to swap, turns out it paid off. Using Stamp (Upward Slice) you can go giga damage and stagger this boi hard for a big finisher, he just had to behave long enough, two finishers and he was done.
What’re you running? Cause you’re either lying or have some good shit

I actually used the Starscourage Greatsword (mine was +9). Thanks for the tips especially hitting it in the skull as a priority. I would jump attack and it would knock about 1/6 of the health off the boss!! Roll a ton until he teleports and then rush him once he does the laser beam attack. Done. I died once and got him!
thank you so much for this strategy bro i beat it first try using this strat
Rot breath does the trick
Latenna +9 trivialises this fight, she does so much damage all you have to do is survive. She shoots from the fog gate and the boss never targets her unless he teleports next to her
What is that?
she really did trivialize the fight and astel deserved to be cheesed
my +10 oleg tore him up too
Rolling like crazy and staying to the side or behind the head is your best friend when up close
Beat em at lvl 58, 31 vigor. Took me a few hours lol ice spears to the head then critical.
Just did this at level 60. Was getting murdered until I just bought a bunch of fire arrows and used a +11 longbow. Made this fight so so easy
His fucking grab attack is the one that killed me in all my tries, im not even joking i didn’t die once to any of his other attack
I watched some other Guides before but it was your Guide that made me Finally succeed 😍
One Guy was level 250+ and said its super easy if you this and that...🙄
Yea I saw that video. I think some people farmed up runes, got super high level, then started making guides. To each their own, but I didn't find it super helpful when I was struggling on this boss, either.
Waiter, waiter! More grab attacks please!
Dude listened to this guide as I did it after. Atleast 5 instant kills and I won THANKS DUDE!
Moonveil Katana's heavy attack does a lot of poise damage to him, 3 or 4 hits and you get a crit, plus it auto tracks the head so aiming is really easy
It takes 2 for me
My advice is to get the Black Knife off the Black Knife Assassin in the Altus Plateau upgrade it to at least a +7 and then use Mimic. It took me 3 times to beat him using the Blade of Death skill on the knife at a level 75. But It seemed to work pretty well👍🏽

Amazing art direction, weird cool attacks, decent difficulty, great lore - love it.
And it looks like its made of cosmic blueberries
U can roll through the teleport and the gravity well attack that slams u down
Also if u run to the back wall of the cave let it teleport and it'll keep on teleporting in the same spot, just dodge roll when hes about to teleport and boom easy kill
I am extremely curious to see the lore on this guy
