Hello! Thought I’d get in early with a comment. I’m Dan aka Redtoof from this battle report. Sorry internet if I made any mistakes, I picked up on at least two on the drive home afterwards! (The Tyrannofex only moves 6 so should have been a fraction of an inch out of range on turn one, and I completely forgot Prey Adaptation from the Malanthrope was a thing.) That said, I hope you all really enjoy this Report. :) Small plug time. I do a little blog. Here is a post I made before playing this game about the army I was taking, if you want some more info: redtoof.blogspot.com/2018/09/hive-fleet-goliath-prepare-for-winters.html Also I am contractually obliged to back up my shirt and tell everyone I do CrossFit. I go to CrossFit Grimsby where they have transformed me from a fat nerd into a slightly less fat nerd who can climb a rope.
This is easily one of Winters most aesthetically pleasing games. Both armies laid out like that ready to do war really gives the game a weighty feeling.
Not to the people on a forge world waiting for their deliver of industry essential toxic waste... They could care less about the lives of the people providing those resources, they just want them on time...
The narrative scenario on this one was awesome in my opinion. It's great to see imaginative narrative play battles like this. Props to you on the great content.
i LOVE mixed army's that are built to have fun rather then just optimizing everything for hardcore play, its fun to watch big robot's walk up and smack tyranids in the face.
Gorgeous tyranids. The force is strong with Jormungr. He is playing precisely what he should be playing, the shadow in the warp. Screw the Eldar. Cherry picking what to re-roll and not re-roll seemed a bit cheeky. Thanks for sharing.
Great looking Tyranid army! I, for one, really appreciate the Narrative builds on your channel. It's been such a shame most UA-camrs are only covering Matched Play battle reports. For me, Narrative battles are much more enjoyable to watch and play, i.e. no limitations on gameplay.
I love watching y’alls battle reports. I was a hardcore gamer back in 3rd and 4th edition ran out of locals to play with though so ended up selling off my armies. Those are some great paint jobs!
I really do enjoy these, but any chance we can see a fight that doesn't involve some branch of the Imperium? I love the Imperium (Blessed are they that walk in the light of the Emperor), but it would be nice to have a bit of variety. Tau vs Nids? Orks vs Necrons? Dark Eldar vs Demons? Either way, keep up the videos!
I want to see Chaos Slaanesh vs the Eldar personally. Hardly anyone uses Slaanesh and she got big buffs in 8th edition i hear. Lore wise Slaanesh is basically the sole reason the Eldar went almost extinct in an instant. Be a good narrative battle as the Eldar make a strike against one of her Pleasure Worlds
a while ago they did a free-for-all CSM narrative which was really fun to watch, personally I’m hoping for more lore-friendly narrative like battles linked to the 13th black crusade and aftermath
Yep, that was a bit more interesting than normal I will agree and I do like a good narrative battle. Other than those it's pretty much just Imperium vs Whomever every week. Does start to get a bit samey as we see the same characters and units over and over. Granted it would mean Winters probably having to borrow someone's army or have two guests over for a two way battle to arrange it though.
@@cheguevara19 I'm a bit late to the party, but he does use his end of all things and Tyranids fairly often, and Liam plays Chaos and Eldar fairly often, both of which can indeed be found on DZTV and here. For only 4.99 a month I'd really recommend it.
At 1:32:46 I think that was a bit of unfair play on the nid players part on re-rolling that failed save. Re-rolls and whatever but c'mon, your big lord of war which has done a lot of damage gets taken out by a small trooper when most of your opponent has already been wiped away, let them have at least the moral victory. Especially since you still have more monstrous creatures and psyker spam going on on the other side of the table. My opinion.
Having just watched this, that last silo should have been gone too. The Ravenger didn't attack it in its assault phase neither of the two turns. But what an amazing roll of psychic powers. Tyranids are so fun to play and watch play. Well done!
I checked the channel this morning looking for a vid, glad to see this! Also nice to see old school minis, currently working on 30k emporors children, and for uniqueness I've used a lot of rogue trader tanks..... Uniqueness and cheapness lol
I like to imagine the Neurothropes and Zoanthropes just silently floating through the air towards that left flank, before unleashing crackling psychic energy on all of those units of AdMech. Then everybody across the battlefield turning their heads towards the sounds of lightning and screams.
Maybe it has allready been said but : in the second turn of the nids a unit got destroyed 1 inch from the malanthrope, which would give your entire army reroll 1's for the rest of the game. A really really big bonus in this case ;) But well this made it more close, which is also fine offcourse.
Mr. Dodo I figured this one out on the way home. Could have really helped out, but I made a few mistakes in my favour as well so I guess it all balances out.
No problem, it was a very nice game and well playing powerpoints is always a friendly game so no harm done. Every mistake now made, is a lesson learned when it counts ;)
I was getting stressed out cos winters kept hitting and making invun saves on 4's.... Then I realised that the dice face was actually a crosshairs symbol that was a 6!! 😂 😂 took me till 1:58:30ish to work it out! Have literally been going mad all match 😂 😂
You should lose the dice decided point values for the objectives just give them set values based on how important or easy/hard to protect they are, that way you won't have a situation where the defender gets steamrolled losing three objectives but somehow comes away with 6 points vs the attackers 3. Such mechanics are best described with an extremely sarcastic, "fun and engaging."
Great battle report as always. I love that you play narrative games with cool special objectives. However, you really should use the match play rules anyway, as the ability to use stratagems and physic powers multiple times in the same turn is a bit much.
Lovely content as always Winters. A question though. Wouldn't Smite still change the WC every attampt? I do not believe that is a matched play rule only, and the Smite was strong this game.
its hard to get a sense of how l.o.s. effects the game from bat reps I see. from my pov it feels like anything can shoot at anything. I wonder if more los camera shots and discussion about what shots you couldn't take for los reasons would help. or would that make them tedious to watch, not sure.
it depends heavily on the terrain and who made the map weather los comes in to play.. SEO has a special affection for those weird girder styles of terrain that are full of holes an therefore allow tons of LOS sight. (probably because he plays shooty armies an likes home-field advantage XD) generally the more LOS blocking terrain on the field the more tactical games get and CQB armies tend to get stronger aswell while it makes it gun lines weaker. so to sum up it depends HEAVILY on who is actually creating the battlefield plus what kinds of armies are being brought into battle. shooting armies like lots flat terrain fighting armies like plenty of cover. ultimately though if your model can draw a straight line in space to any portion of another model (even if it's just a claw or the base poking out from behind a wall) their allowed to shoot at it even if that makes no sense. same thing for large blobs of units. if you have a unit of marines hidden behind LOS blocking cover if even ONE marine is visible then the enemy can fire as if the squad is in full sight... which means that yes in some cases you can literally kill an entire squad just because one model had a stupid bolter pistol poking out from behind a wall. it makes no sense but those are the rules.
does make things tedious. There are other channels that do it and its kinda frustrating. It's the kind of thing that is fun to do but not fun to watch.
agree with pinkyfull, I do love a good los dispute but I wouldn't want to watch one. this is why it's always good to have a large los blocking piece of terrain fairly central, as it really divides up the battlefield
Unfortunately, most batreps don't use los blocking terrain much. Even this one most of the cover is low enough for the onagers to see over and see through. I always have 4 or 6 dedicated solid blocks of cover to prevent leafblowers.
How many rapier quad heavy bolters can you have, and how many points? They seem to be one of the best parts of your army when u use them in your videos and i dont have a forgeworld index but it's very tempting to start a chaos army cause of them.
What a waste of a Haruspex. Sure it's not the best unit, but it's far from useless, unless you keep it in the back and never advance it as if it had some powerful ranged attack to preserve. Also, doesn't the Haruspex heal when he kills things with his ravenous maw?

That Tyranid army is beautiful.
Hellstorm Wargaming thank you 🙂 You can see more on my blog if you like: redtoof.blogspot.com/
Thanks dude I’ll check it out 🙂
I agree
I love your face. It's the colour of cookies and sunshine!
winters SEO I did wonder how drunk you were at NR 😜
I like how the dude on the AT-RT is basically attacking a gigantic alien monster with a cattle prod.
This is easily one of Winters most aesthetically pleasing games. Both armies laid out like that ready to do war really gives the game a weighty feeling.
Not to mention, the mat and terrain were both gorgeous.
Snacks set up, drinks ready, New WinterSEO video
Todays gonna be a good sunday
I'm going to hire him to roll my smites xD
That were some magnificent loaded dice! Thank you for batrep, lads!
Not gonna lie, tyranids spilling chemical waste into the atmosphere is the last of anyone's problems in a tyranid invasion
Not to the people on a forge world waiting for their deliver of industry essential toxic waste... They could care less about the lives of the people providing those resources, they just want them on time...
his tyranids army is gorgeous.....and OMG he has unreal dice rolling........ awesome game regardless

My god winters you need new dice..
That supersmiting chain at around 40 minutes hurt just from watching. And I'm a Tyranid player, mind you!
Yeah, that wasn't very sportsmanlike or fun to watch. We need more Paul!
that was freakin hilarious. then his robot blows up and he command points and it blows again.
That is a beautiful looking Tyranid army. Well rolled Redtoof!
Toof!
i LOVE mixed army's that are built to have fun rather then just optimizing everything for hardcore play, its fun to watch big robot's walk up and smack tyranids in the face.
Beautiful Tyranids, really well painted!
Tyranids always creeped me out. Still, they looked really cool!
I love the paintwork on the tyranid army so nice great battle great channel

That first Tyranid turn ... ouch.
38:56 "Jawmonger" i think that would be a good nickname for a mawloc or a haruspex.

that psychic stuff was so much shenanigans

Winter has loaded dice to get 1s and 2s. Other guy has loaded dice to get 5s and 6s
Cuppa tea, scone and a new battle report; what a start to a sunday!
awesome! The ending was really unpredictable throughout the whole game. Just wonderful, thanks for such an epic battle guys.
"The power of a thousand suns!"
*rolls double one* 😑😂
Hell yah I love staying up all night just to find a new battle report just before I deside I wanna sleep
Absolutely love the narrative armies and the narrative game. Thanks so much Winters.
No problem. Thanks for watching
First of all, two really nice army, cool to see some Skitarii on youtube! Super nice batrep, thanks for the work!
love the way you put the maps together
I cry everytime I see a Mechanicus Batrep in 8e. But this time even my bionics hurt. Those roles were weirdly balanced, but the narrative was fun.
The perfect compliment to my morning coffee.

I like to imagine the Neurothropes and Zoanthropes just silently floating through the air towards that left flank, before unleashing crackling psychic energy on all of those units of AdMech. Then everybody across the battlefield turning their heads towards the sounds of lightning and screams.
Those preists are nasty...Thinking of getting a couple of units to ally with my deathwatch for some much needed close combat.
What an awesome game, especially as it got scrappy at the end. 2 beautiful fluffy armies, I love that tryant.
Cool tyranid army both in colour and strategy
Hooray, Winters!!

I would love to have a game against you winters but i assume kids aren't your ideal opponents

What a great game, with 2 great looking armies. I would love a game some time, once my blood angels are painted 🤣
Tyranid dice rolling was as incredible as the mechanicus rolling was incredibly shit.
At the 1 hour 14 mark that smite on the dragoon looked long as hell and I’m sure the vanguard unit near the middle was closer
Oof... the hive mind concentrated heavily on this battle. These smites were insane!
WoW! Such luck had the Tyranid Player!
I have yet to see adeptus win against tyrinids on this channel lol

Very cool batrep 👍
man those 11s on the smite phase turn 2... weighted dice
I guess I'm not going to sleep any time soon...
* laughs in europe*
Winters! What happened to your dice at the end of the battle? So many ones...
How do you chose who you fight? From patreon?
I'm UK based! How would I go about challenging you to a game? :P
He has a cheap patreon which lets you access his discord
Although I think he's usually pretty busy. Last I heard until like January or something
Also he's in the middle of bloody nowhere 😂
I’m sure it’s harder for me a young American let alone some who hails from a non English speaking country
Zilegil where the middle of no where
oh shit the Onegar without the bases look dope. 👍
Thats some gross rolling winters :(
That last smite on D17 though..... wtf.... crazy.
I have had a thought watching this: what if tyranids were in toy story
Great looking game. Where did you guy get the scenery from, is it from Pworks?
Lovely content as always Winters. A question though. Wouldn't Smite still change the WC every attampt? I do not believe that is a matched play rule only, and the Smite was strong this game.
Look at the faq's/errata. They specifically mention they're for matched play.
Brilliant game! Epic DZTV dice - do they always role that hot? 🤔
I set the video speed to 1.5X and enjoy this more now. BTW, why don't you make the screams or explosion sounds?

Burn those dice Winters lol
2:04:02 A 2+ save is so fitting for Goliath, as we all know. :3
They always diss the haruspex, but nobody understands the true pain it can dish out
Jesus those 11s for the smites. This guy needs to play some street craps.
Yaayy another utube vid, pls keep uploading to utube
Edit: are those winters seo Custodes I see in the background?
Yes. Yes they are
Are you ever gonna field the FW transport with the admech? Just curious :)
The Dice Gods were against you
Awesome scenario
Those dice are the real MVP
fyi the r on the end of Jormungandr is silent. it's just yor-mun-gand
lease tell me that colour scheme for the tyranids im begging you, what paints did you use PLEASE
How many rapier quad heavy bolters can you have, and how many points? They seem to be one of the best parts of your army when u use them in your videos and i dont have a forgeworld index but it's very tempting to start a chaos army cause of them.
One quad bolter takes up a heavy slot. Forget how many points they are. Something like 80 once you add the two crew members
Not happy about that robot blowing up and causing no damage to the chemical containers.
Winters, epic orktober right?
I thought Trigons had to b 9" away to deep strike?
That was a awesome scenario next can we see the tyranids apoc to win the planet from the forge or can they push them back and then run them off
do the venguards redue the tougness of monsters too ? cuz he couldve charged them at the mawloc to guarantee the kill

I would have personally run more blobs of vanguard 10 man squads with triple plasma just bring weight of fire down on their heads
