    It's been fun going back and watching some of my best races, but believe me, I had some really bad ones too! Races where I made mistakes and lost big as a result. I really believe we can learn just as much from our losses as we can from our wins (maybe even more!). So, on this channel, I will also be breaking down some of the races where I made big mistakes. Please consider subscribing if that sounds interesting to you!

      @James F Yes totally! Go for it! I’m 12 as well, and when I before I first got sub 20 for 5 ks my pb was around 20 mins, and I just wanted to get sub 20, and I managed to do it, and after that race, a week or so later I got almost sub 19:30! (19:33) if I got say one thing that helps me, is that when I’m near the end, (200 metres ish,) I think, this will be over really soon, and I will be really annoyed If I dont get the time I want, so I think just suck it up and run as fast as you can. Good luck for getting sub 20! You can do it! :D

      You run 7.04 meters FURTHER by running a full lap in the second lane... 14.08 meters further in the 3rd lane, etc. Be patient and hit the gap... or lose with foolish bravery and guts! I see professional runners doing this when they have laps left in a race... unreal.

    • @Thomas-fk3cw
      @Thomas-fk3cw 3 роки тому +7

      @@NickCager Merging Nick's comments with yours, I guess in an 800 the ideal place to be is inside rail for first 500 meters, go to outside shoulder of lead runner(s) with 200 or so to go to control race as Nick said? With 200 to go you're still going to run a little further but at that point you need to put hammer down and go.

    I have watched this race dozens of times. It embodies everything I love about running. Great athletes that aren't afraid to take it out fast. Tactics, patience, and emotional control - the mental part of racing. A perfectly time move. A vicious kick to overtake in the final stretch. A desperate dive at the line to eke out third place and fulfill a lifelong dream. Loved it!

I've heard 2 people from the Olympic race say had you not been in the finals, they wouldn't have had to go out so fast, and stay far enough ahead of you to prevent you from slingshotting past them. Your kick was the reason that was one of the fastest, and best 800s of all time.

    About the nervousness I think I can there's something universal about the relationship between nervousness and passion. During one of my acting courses last semester I came across a quote that will stick with me for the rest of my life and went something like this: "don't be worried that you're nervous. Be worried if you're not at least a little nervous, because you might not care enough about what's about to transpire at that point" . That's perspective I think anyone can use, whether they be an athlete or artist. Be encouraged by the nervousness, it means you've got that fire within you 🔥💪 this video really helped me remember that principle

    To be able to finish out a race like this. Nick had amazing strength at the end of a grueling race. Just like a racehorse. His heart and cardiovascular fitness was amazing at the time. I would just tie up in the half mile run, I could never sprint 2 laps like that to be competitive at that distance. The half mile run was my least favorite distance to run in high school.
