Though not the fastest of all time, truly one of the most exciting 800M of all time. Who ever thought a crowd could cheer so loud for a bunch of 1/2 milers? My favorite moment is Symmonds and his mother This is a video that just doesn't get old.
My brother, my friend, and I were selling water outside Hayward Field that whole week. The roar we heard when this happened was unbelievable. There was no doubt that something incredible had just happened.
I was there and will never forget the roar of the crowd as they came on to the home stretch. I am Canadian and yet was thrilled. What a race. The times don’t matter. The drama and electricity in the stadium were unforgettable.
I know Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
best part of the whole thing is at 3:48 when Symmonds looks at the scoreboard and double-takes when he realizes his teammate is going to Beijing with him. the look of shock is priceless hahahaaha
Crazy strong kick for Symmonds! I remember watching him in this race & the Olympics! Also in this race was Lopez Lomong who is STILL one of the top US runners in the 1500/5k/10k & huge prospect for Tokyo 2020.
That lane 7 guy looked familiar -- Lopez Lomong is now the third fastest American man not over 800m, but over 25 full laps of the track. One of be best 10000m runners to compete for the USA
Wow! Christian Smith is a friend of my friend's older brother. I met him my freshman year of track season after this had just happened and he was telling us about it. Crazy stuff to see it for myself.
I was at the 96 800m Oly final where Rodal beat the Oly record and the the black South African was the first to ever medal in the Oly games. I thought that that was it. The race we all just watched is more memorable to me, so I agree.
@dcsolorunner Listen up. Oregon T&F, Oregon T&F and University of Oregon. That is Nick Symmonds', Christian Smiths', and Andrew Wheating's affiliations. So they are indeed, Oregonians from a track and field standpoint. You should see a key word in there: OREGON. You're welcome.
They all lived and trained in Oregon. Smith's singlet was from the Oregon Track Club as well as Symmonds. Wheating's singlet was obviously from the U of O. Why are you trying to belittle on of the greatest Oly Trials races ever run? I'm not sure any of them were BORN there. They did choose to move and train their. Oregon being the hotbed of distance and middle distance running, where else would serious athletes live. I do not get your point.
Look at the positions of the top three guys in the first 200, DFL. With 300 to go "Symonds and Wheating at the back", only Smith had moved up until it was go time. KD and the other folks that take it to the Gray zone never seem to get it. Being in the lead at 400 doesn't mean diddly. Being in the lead at 800 is where it counts.
running last does not work in the Olympics....Symmonds and Wheating....kind of chickenshits as I review this race...5th or worse with these tactics...not really racing...just exploiting the real "racers"....3rd place was gutsy!
April, 1967...880 yards...University of New Mexico vs Kansas State Dual meet...Jim Ryun won the event 1:51.3...I ran 5th in 1:54.1...look it up...John Rogan UNM track....was a great honor just to compete in that race!
+John Rogan Oh I wasn't denying you raced him. Just racing someone who is fast doesn't mean you know what your talking about, like you arrogantly stated towards Edgar. Yeah I love seeing a guy go from the front, Robinson Definitely earned the most respect from me in this race but he didn't make the team, I don't like sit-and-kickers either but thats the 800.

@@jmcconnor01 lol u 10 yrs late 🤣
holy cow at that dive. I love to see people compete when it means everything to them.
It’s crazy K. Robinson doesn’t make the Olympic team here but makes it 4 years later when he was old af
Maybe he had some better steroids :)
@@SilencedButNotForgotten lol stfu. Everybody who’s in the sport knew KD was clean. Don’t BS and sully a legend’s name.

probably the best 800m race that i've ever seen!!!

best finish iv ever seen, epic dive ftw
This was an incredible race. All three Oregonians make the Olympics in Oregon. You couldn't even write this stuff.
3:48 is instant serotonin, lmao
They were all stars going in and all stars coming out!
wait, so the Beijing Olympic 800m finals was a 1:44.65, so this race from Nick would've won gold by a bit!
Look on Wheating's face is just awesome.
This seems like a lifetime ago!
wheating just looks like he's from vermont
what's wrong with that :P
He kind of looks like he's from the Bronx.
Yeah he looks like a Vermont type of guy.. Not good
beasts. I idolized these two.

just amazing...
"And Symmonds and Wheating are the last two"
They ended up being the first two.
3:51 that moment you realize you're going to the Olympics.
No he’s reacting to he’s training partner making it to
Legendary.
Symmonds is a beast
how come i can't find videos of nick symmonds competing in 2008 beijing olympics
He was kept back due to sponsorship problems
Nice turn of Foot by Simmons..!!!
Truly True! Amazing!

Did anyone notice how the other sprinters refused to shake their hands? Haha. Because they got absolutely wiped out.
Were you there?
House of Jello Productions yes I was
Great race! Gutsy sweep
Mr. Sit and Kick
I found nicks symmonds friend andrew
and symmonds is from idaho
Yes, but the college he went to is in Salem (Willamette University).
@dcsolorunner and symmonds is from boise. so, in that case, no oregonians won.
Dive FTW
well if you want to think of it that way then none of them are oregonians. symmonds is from boise, idaho.

Exactly, and the gutsy ones died out, the 8 it's about strategy and holding on you don't know what you're saying so keep it to yourself
+John Rogan You raced Jim Ryan? who is that your PE class mate? Jim "Ryun" was the guy ive heard all about.

David Rudisha runs wire to wire from the front...could be an EPO greyhound like Seb Coe....only time will tell...ask Lance Armstrong!
