I just want to thank you so much for this tutorial..I've never painted a day in my life and I just covered up this old ugly panel in my room by following your steps. Everyone is complimenting the room and I couldnt have done it without this video, thanks again
God I wish I found this before trying to paint over panneliing .. there is a primer in my paint but ... I went through a whole can on paint on 3 tiny walls ... I couldn't figure out why my paint was not covering .. thankful for finding this before I bought more cans ! I'm glad to have found this so I can atleast finish the bedroom properly ! I cannot thank you enough for this video ! Such a god sent !
This was one of the most informative videos I’ve seen, very well done. Love the way you throw in the tips as you go along, will check for your videos on other upcoming projects. First time painting over paneling perfect timing.
This video made prepping and painting the wood paneling in my teen's room so doable using products and terms I actually understand! Thank ya Hillbilly!
Thank you for this video. Due to a water leak, we are in the process of replacing and painting a section of wood paneling. This is the best instruction I have seen. We did not know how to fill in the grooves to match the the look of the other panels. You explained it perfectly. Hope you continue to make videos!
Awesome video! This helps me a LOT! Lots of homes with that dreadful paneling. Now, these homes can sport a cute cottage look with light colored painted paneling. Win win!
I have to use a pole on my roller. It kills my wrists if I don’t. My favorite is a a small adjustable pole. Aldo don’t have to bend over so much to refill your roller. Also found lambs wool rollers worth the extra money (picks up more paint so less trips to the paint pan snd much less splatter)
You and your team are extremely detailed and organized. I cannot believe I am going to try this , but I know I will have this video blasting on my Bose speakers for confidence! Do you have a whitewashing video for faux paneling?
I am painting my paneling white but I will not fill in the cracks (lines on it) because I plan on painting the cracks RED. I think it will look cool when I am done. An accent wall.
We have a wood paneled room that feeds into a hallway. All the way down the edge of the corner between the room & hall, there is a plastic strip connecting the two wall edges where the L-shaped wall meets. Do you just paint that strip or remove it & dap/caulk that wall edge?
This works if you want white paneling. If I want to fill in all the crack lines and make the wall look like smooth drywall, would you recommend using wood filler on the cracks before applying the primer? The Benjamin Moore video says to prime the cracks before applying the wood filler. It seems to me that the wood filler will stick better to the unprimed wood cracks.
Due to a chronic muscle condition which weakens my choice selections in a day I’m skipping over quite a few steps. Don’t get me wrong I would absolutely love to follow like 1,2,3! But doing at all is better than physical injury &/exacerbation of the creepy dictator pain syndrome. So I look for other methods to achieve similar results! . Some time back I scored 8 double rolls of a nubby-textural hefty wallpaper in the colour yellow. Not a favourite on the colour wheel though being made of.a quality paper here’s where we’re headed; Hang sheets of the $2.99/dbl roll super sgnarly cool wallpaper w/double sided adhesive tape. Dry brush a skim coat base. Come back overtop w/varying shades of chalk paint in a coral. Because I’m mad about Chinoiserie will be taking aaaall the time in the world to detail out a ‘feature’ wall where our tv lives. I’m excited to get started! Already tested in practical theory just how durable IS this technique… Our test hang is stillSTILLstill (Thankfully) hanging strong! . Doing a hand painted mural is something I’ve had on my bucket list forEVER. I’ve done something here & something there but ThisTHISThis?? Oh this is really fun! And too I’ll ask for Help as need be but for the most part even if it takes me a year who cares I mean at least I’ll be DOing it, right! Think coral, peachy, rich vanillas & browns for tree branches & varying greens, pinks & whites for leaves, vines, flower blossoms & highlights… I’ve always loved toile so when I found the inspiration piece on the web of a $500 single roll of she-she wallpaper I thought, ‘I can DO this’ on a shoestring budget for about the cost of 5 gallons of paint! So the story goes… wish me luck! Eeeeeeeee 💡💨
Do I need to use oil based primer on my brown paneling? It just smells so badly. It’s winter time so I can open the windows. Should I use a fan throughout the house? Thanks, appreciate your expertise. Great work.
I have plastic paneling and it’s already white but it’s faded compared to my white furniture and I’d like to paint it instead of getting rid of it. Would this work for my type of paneling?
i have a question we just purchased an old trailer and the previous owners put wallpaper all over wood paneling and then painted wallpaper now its starting to peel off what should we do?
Hi there, thank you for the tutorial. I really like the wall color. What color did you use and is it bare paint ? Did you prime it first with strain blocker paint before you painted your color ? Thank you.
That looks really nice. Was the first coat you put on a primer? I know you can buy paint with primer already in it. If you do this do you still have to put that first coat on?
He mentioned that he put two coats of “Kilz 2” on the walls. Kilz is a primer. It seems that he put two coats of primer on the walls before he plugged the holes/cracks. Even if you use a paint with primer, you will still need to put at least two coats. Basically, that first coat serves as your PRIMER. You may still need to put two coats on as your PAINT.
Well yes u painted paneling but it looks like.... painted paneling. You think if you had filled in the gaps to overflow the gap, let it dry then sand to where it's all uniform. No more gaps then it would look like sheetrock? Great video but my goal is to cover up the paneling to the point that it's just a uniform level wood then paint.
I can never logically figure out a reason to paint paneling. To me there are two choices leave it alone or remove it. It's like an ugly girl. Either date her or leave her alone. Nothing you can do that will make her attractive.
I just want to thank you so much for this tutorial..I've never painted a day in my life and I just covered up this old ugly panel in my room by following your steps. Everyone is complimenting the room and I couldnt have done it without this video, thanks again
So, it's been 2 years. How's the room holding up?
@@ari8604 still looks great but my aunt turned it into a closet after I moved away 😭 so all that paint was done for nothing lol
this just made me to decide to paint my paneling instead of tearing it down and putting up drywall. THANKS
same here! Going to paint the old paneling...
Just made me decide the same
How did it last years later?

Glad I found your video, and is the same wood paneling that’s in my house.
This video made prepping and painting the wood paneling in my teen's room so doable using products and terms I actually understand! Thank ya Hillbilly!
I'm glad you found the video helpful and easy to understand. My goal is to help others. Have a great day!
Wow! Never knew you could paint over wood paneling. I'm looking a house that has a entire basement filled with that paneling. Thank you
Thank you, awesome video! Now I can redo bathroom with 50 yr old paneling! Cheaper than removing it!😊👍👍
Thank you. Great pointers. Our church sanctuary is all wood paneling so excited to paint it. Picked up a lot of great tips here. God bless 🙌
Such a great tutorial!! Wish I would’ve watched this before I started- would’ve saved me a few days 😂

The caulking idea worked great! Watched many vids and you were the first to suggest it. Thanks, saved a lot of time!
How did it hold?
Awesome video! This helps me a LOT! Lots of homes with that dreadful paneling. Now, these homes can sport a cute cottage look with light colored painted paneling. Win win!
My thoughts exactly. I love the cottage look!
Yes I thank you too. So much straightforward information and great tips. Thanks!
Looks great, much better than the old wood paneling.
Thanks. Learn something new every day. Your video was easy to understand for us dummies.

Best video on painting paneling
Idk why but I love his voice! Very patient and educational! Thanks!!
Very good video on this subject. Thank you !
Glad it was helpful! Have a Great day!
i live in a mobile home im a use lightweight joint compound for the lines make it look like drywall
You need to use the handle end to roller lead to take out lines. Right handed
Thank you so much for this video. Lots of great tips and very informative.
You and your team are extremely detailed and organized. I cannot believe I am going to try this , but I know I will have this video blasting on my Bose speakers for confidence! Do you have a whitewashing video for faux paneling?
Nice tutorial and I love that paint tray! Gotta get myself one.
Use a pole on your roller(Evan just a small pole) makes it much easier on your hands and back.
Great instructional video. Thanks
I am painting my paneling white but I will not fill in the cracks (lines on it) because I plan on painting the cracks RED. I think it will look cool when I am done. An accent wall.
How did your wall turn out? Please share a picture, that sounds like a nice idea.
Muchas gracias x la respuesta me ayuda a no gasta mas plata

Asé mucho k buscaba k alguien me ayudara a cambia de cara ami casa y a través de usted lo logré son unos genios muchasssss graciassss

I would probably paint that strip as well. If you remove it there could be a large gap to fill. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

Great video! Very informative.
Looks good. I have several paneled rooms I plan on painting. What color did you use?
How do I determine if I need a latex or oil base primer? My 1960s era paneling looks very similar to your.
Thank you for this video!
Great teaching thank you
“Hi, we’re back on day 367” 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Great video. l I just bought a rental in which the upstairs bedroom is wood paneled.
Amphibious. Lol. Thanks for the tutorial!
The perfect woman!
Very nice video! Thank you for posting!

Great video
This is great! Thank you!
Yes prep work first!! Im about to do mine
Great idea about dragging the roller up the corner. Di you use flat or satin finish?
Do I need to use oil based primer on my brown paneling? It just smells so badly. It’s winter time so I can open the windows. Should I use a fan throughout the house? Thanks, appreciate your expertise. Great work.
Great job! Thanks for posting.
What type of roller to use for the grooves without having to fill them.
I need this video becoz i have old wooden panel home 🙏😊
I have some like that . But how to fix it if a section is bubbled out?. Is there a certain Way to fix it

Thank you.
I'm a lefty-amphibious, too! 😂

What nap did you use?
If I remember correctly we used a 3/8 nap. Have a great day!

Why pine sol and not vinegar, bleach, stp, etc?
Do you use A TSP to start with ?
Cómo me gustaría k lo comenté en español
How well does is hold up ?
nice job
Could u spackle the lines¿
Can I use this painting technique on tongue and grooves?
So is that Kilz 2 oil or water based
What color is that you used? Is like an off white?

Same
Thank you for sharing...
Amphibious ??? LOL
I think you mean Ambidextrous.
Hmmm..
Ambient (equal)
Dexterity (skill/coordination)
I think I just worked out Latin
Awesome job
Is this wood...? Or vinyl? I have vinyl paneling in my kids rooms and my dad said that the paint won’t stick to it so not to waste my time painting.
That's why he said to buff it with sand paper to get of the slick surface so the paint can stick to a rougher surface
Mine is vinyl too and it’s dingy and I got told I couldn’t paint it. I’ve tried multiple cleaners. I don’t know what to do.
Yes; you can paint vinyl. Just clean it with a degreaser, sand lightly and apply Kilz. I use Kilz with the gold can. It will come out great and last.
😊
Have a good day!
Help‼️anyone out there ever laid wall paneling on floors... please reply ASAP😁👍🏻‼️
My husband says I'm ambidextrous - I can spend money left and right🤪😘💲🙋♀️🇨🇦😍❤️‼️

Exactly my thought they were clever though and changed the dictionary to suit their using of it.
My whole living room and dinning room 🙄
I switch hands when painting to.. not because my non dominate hand is just as talented.. my damn hand and wrist is cramping
AMPHIBIOUS
honestly not to hate but does not look too great...
I can never logically figure out a reason to paint paneling. To me there are two choices leave it alone or remove it. It's like an ugly girl. Either date her or leave her alone. Nothing you can do that will make her attractive.
The same reason some guys date ugly girls - they don’t have the money to upgrade
