  • The weather has taken a turn for the worse the last couple of weeks after planting. This leads Matt to have to do his least favorite job...replant...But how much cotton can be saved and how much does he have to start over on???

    Sorry you had to replant Matt, I was glad to see that you got your cotton in the ground early. I hope that y’all have a better crop this year than you did last year🙏🏻

    I live in Iowa and the farmers here have finished planting for the first time. Some have replanted. I have received 13 inches of rain since April 26. We have been getting torn up by tornadoes this spring.

    Here in mid-missouri, wheat is coming off and first crop soybeans are still going in. Today is June 18th and corn was still going in last weekend.

    It’s a shame that you had to replant as much as you did. Hope you had a great Father’s Day.

    You talked about all of the fields with 2' tall weeds because they couldn't get in to plant. I get the added expense, but would it be better (if one could) to burn down the "tough to get rid of" weeds even if you can't get in to plant?

      It was too wet to even spray before it got grown up

    Sorry you're having to replant.
    I'm guessing you use a earlier maturing seed. Dp they give you a break on replant seed cost?
    Did you give up on Thrivon cotton? The thrip resistant stuff. I recall it was ok on thrips but you had to spray for other insects anyway. . .

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 місяці тому

      We already plant earliest maturing varieties out there. Yes we just have to pay to cost of the seed, not any technology fees that go with replanted seed. ThriveOn varieties are lagging a little in yield so we went away from them this year.

    You maybe already cutting wheat by now but there has been a lot of vomitoxin in our area. I’ve heard anywhere from 2.5 ppm to 40 ppm.

      Low test weight and deer poop in the sample are the big problems here

      @@griggsfarmsllc someone from Henderson KY told me they got a couple loads rejected for deer poop. I thought they were kidding lol never heard of that one before. We have grown any wheat in 10 years though.

    Thanks as always for the video, wish it wasn't for the replanting, but it is what it is. Am wondering if the overall planting disasters throughout the farm belt isn't going to affect food prices this coming fall. I have to believe that it will. Will have to put in a larger winter stock pile of good ole grits and oatmeal. Carried us though the great depression, reckon it can do it again. Thanks again, good work.

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 місяці тому +1

      Doubtful. Any food price increases you see are 99% the result of other factors than the supply of farm commodities

    Hate it for ya man! Did you have to terminate the survivors from first planting?

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes I did because if I'm off even a few inches from the original row when replanting, harvesting it becomes a nightmare.
