During two of the games, you have the option to play Karumonix, the Rat King before combat, but you hold off. Is this just a conservative playstyle or do you have something specific in mind to hold off? Karumonix gives all rats toxic, which I think can be a game changer.
Yeah, part of it was being conservative, but also it was my inexperience with the card. I forgot at the time it gives all of your rats Toxic 1. I later realized I could have been more aggressive with that card. However, I think if I was to build the Rats deck again, I would go for more of a controlling version to really leverage Vren's triggered ability & play more into the Threshold mechanic.
I've built my rats a bit more mid-rangy control. Having a spell to eliminate an enemy blocker and generate yourself a 6/6 rat is pretti amazing value wise. It also helps against other aggro decks like red. I'm surprised you didn't include the rat that makes you mill 2 as it feeds the persistent marshwalker quite well to have it up early. To be honest I don't think Vren has much of a role in an aggro deck he just takes too long to get online if ur goal is to burn.
Yeah, I agree. After playing the deck I mention there seems to be some tension between Vren & the rest of the deck. A control midrange style deck would seem like more of a natural fit. Hopefully, there will be more rats or some cards from Duskmourn that will work well with the rat strategy.
Check out the Filigree Sylex, I have had great success with it Turn 2 play, up it to one or 2 depending on the creatures opp plays and then T4 you can play vren and kill creatures on the same turn for no mana.
This one looks fun

Nice! That's some good tech. I'll have to try that out. It looks like it could rock the opponents world. Good call! 😮
