Nancy Wilson joined Heart in 1974 as their acoustic & rhythm guitarist. Ann wrote the lyrics to Barracuda and Roger, Nancy and the drummer Michael Derosier wrote the music.

Led Zeppelin was a HUGE influence on the ladies of Heart. In fact, Anne and Nancy Wilson, and band, were selected to perform Stairway To Heaven at The Kennedy Center Honors, in front of Robert Plant, Jimmy page, John Paul Jones, a packed house and TV cameras. Nailed it.
I saw them in the late 70's, they were so amazing, and the girls looked and sounded like Angels. They were actually heavy rock at the time, they weren't considered a 'girl band' they were just rock and roll.

An underappreciated gem you may have missed: Five For Fighting, mostly one guy and a piano with some backup here and there. Check out "World," "The Riddle," "One More For Love," "Policeman's Xmas Party" just to name a few.
Got to see you them twice, once in the Seattle area (where they are from) back in the late '70s-early '80s and then again in Texas (where I'm from) some 20 years later. Still rocking it!😎😎😎😎
Great reaction been listening to them since 1980 great band Floor jansen done a cover of heart a few months ago its called alone it was a cover by heart as well keep these reactions coming 👍
So, you will find that a pattern emerges: many great bands from the 70’s continued to have massive success in the 80’s with ballads and cheesiness. Examples of this are: Heart, Chicago, Steve Miller Band, and even Kool and the Gang. Van Halen also comes to mind...
It was called hair metal. Aerosmith and Heart are the two best examples of kick-ass 70s band that embraced hair metal in the 80s. But to Heart's credit they still had some great heavy music, it's just that Capitol Records only released ballads as singles.
@@johnkendall6558 So did Heart, but the label kept releasing slow songs as singles. Capitol Records was their best friend and their worst enemy at the same time -- kept their career going and brought them new levels of success, but damaged their hard rock credibility by not ever releasing any of their harder material.
Except that wasn't Heart that covered it at the Kennedy Center. It was Ann and Nancy with a house band and John Bonham's son on drums. It wasn't the band Heart.
This was their biggest hit I believe and Magic Man would be another big hit - I do appreciate their mellow stuff as well - Dad sent me home to mom with Dreamboat Annie album along with Queen News of the world and one other classic.
This was nowhere near their biggest hit -- it didn't even make the Top 10. But it was a huge Album Oriented Rock album track so it has lived on more so than their Top 10 singles have for the most part.
Just discovered your channel today and I have probably been leaving too many comments. :-) But Heart's "Magic Man" is a must-listen and my fave by the band. It was their first big hit in the U.S. and Canada in 1975-76, back when I was in middle school.
Your going down the Heart rabbit hole!! Now listen to Crazy on You, Magic Man, Alone, Dog and Butterfly…their songs have a lot of variation. You won’t be disappointed. Ann is the singer her sister is the blond guitarist singing back up. Greatest female rocker. Oh yes. Listen to Kennedy Center Heart covering Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven
At one point in time Ann Wilson, Geoff Tate, late Layne Staley + late Chris Cornell lived in Metro Seattle. They had Chris P. Kyle as their singing coach. Heart peaked in 1985 with their self titled album. These Dreams, Nothin at All, If Looks Could Kill + Never were hits. Best collaboration. Crazy on You with Gretchen Wilson. Other hits. How Can I Refuse, Alone, Will You Be There in the Morning. Black on Black 2 on David Letterman. Best cover by Heart: Stairway to Heaven. Do react! ❤
Harri- did you react to Heart singing Stairway to Heaven to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center yet? They’re the only ones who could do it Justice- especially the Sisters Wilson- Ann- lead vocal; Nancy on guitar.
Keep going Harry, if you like this it gets better.😁 Ann's voice is phenomenal. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and put together the best ever tribute to Led Zeppelin in 2012 at Kennedy Center Honors, Ann's age 62y!! If you haven't reacted yet, do LZ Stairway first then the Honors. You will love it. ❤❤
These ladies started as a Led Zeppelin cover band. They still do some amazing covers. The most well known being Stairway to Heaven for some induction ceremony. Can't remember which but they had to perform in front of Led Zeppelin and Jon Bonham's son Jason played drums.
@@HarriBestReactions The Kennedy center Honors is an annual event in the US where artists of all kinds (music, dance, comedy etc) are honored. Except for the last 4 years it's attended by the President also. It's kind of a big deal thing. Other people come and pay tribute to the ones who are being honored. Heart is just one that did for Zeppelin. There are several other great performances over the years from this. While I will say the Heart/Zeppelin is the best, another good one is Steven Tyler honoring Paul McCartney.
What we hear in this video is the original soundtrack, so they filmed the band playing in "lipsync" to add the visual. I suggest you to listen to "Crazy on you". The studio version or one of their excellent live versions (1977 live is the one I prefer). You will hear the skills of Nancy Wilson on acoustic guitar in the intro.
This isn't a lip synch. It's an actual real performance clip but the studio version was layered on and the video set to match the audio version. This video with the actual live performance (which is great) is on UA-cam.
@@buckysnodgrass9252 But the result is the same. In this video, we are hearing the original soundtrack and not a live performance. It is interesting anyway. I will look for the video where we can hear the live performance.
Not only were they a mix of girls and guys, but they actually started out with just guys. The lead guitar player and the bass player were the two very original guys (school mates) who got the idea to start a band. So they started recruiting some other people. The band name started as "The Army" Then changed to White Heart, Then to Hocus Pocus, Finally to Heart
Exactly. Ann and Nancy are awesome, but the guys in that band have never gotten their due. Without the guys Barracuda would have been a folk ballad. The guys are ones who came up with the riffs on Barracuda, Crazy on You, Heartless were the guys, not Ann or Nancy.
@@buckysnodgrass9252 You are exactly right! Roger Fisher as far as I'm concerned was an important part of the heart and soul of that group. His enthusiasm in creating music was very apparent in his playing! His guitar work was phenomenal! One of the most underrated lead guitarist in rock music! And of course, Howard Leese would compliment him on guitar during many of the leads. Howard was a very technical and talented multi-instrumentalist.. Steve Fossen, the bass player said in an interview that when he and Roger started playing together back in school. They would spend hours practicing and perfecting their musical craft.
Here are some great Heart tunes to check out: Crazy on You, Magic Man, Heartless, Mistral Wind, Alone (probably the gold standard for 80s metal power ballads albeit with a little too much synth for my taste. Vocals are killer though), Bad Animals, Black on Black. Heart has always been a coed band, but the Wilson sisters are the focal points. In the 80s their record company tended to release the ballads as singles, but they've always been hard rock if peel back behind the singles.
Hi Harri , how are you , you will love this song , I always have a fantastic time watching you react to badass music , 1 of their influences is Led Zeppelin
Hey Harri, First off I have to tell you that Ann Wilson the lead singer and the beautiful older girl whom got me away from my home at 18 years old looked like twins, and yes I did marry her and spent the next 24yrs with. Anyways I believe this song was written by Ann and Nancy to/about a reporter who was supposed to have gotten an interview with the sisters but didn't make it and later had written that the two women were lovers . Later to his surprise found out that they were indeed sisters. So they wrote a song mentioning how if you can't get the facts, you just make them up,like a BARRACUDA. PEACE HIPPIE JOE
You would look at the faces of the rest of the band making their sound thinking they are working so hard like race horse jockeys. I would definitely give this unknown drummer a raise for making the band's doughnuts before the final frosting. They need that drummer to show up for work man. This would be a great hard driving rock song for a headphone mixed tape selection during a bicycle race or a two minute faster drive to work after the cat was returned.
Ann Wilson is on the same shelf as Linda Ronstadt or Pat Benetar when it comes to female rock singers. If you wanna hear some other songs from them that rock, check out White Lightning and Wine or If Looks Could Kill
No, it's about a publicity stunt / advertisement put out by Mushroom Records, their first label, suggesting they were sister lesbian lovers. The headline read "It was only our first time!" and showed a photo similar to the one on the Dreamboat Annie. Ann was at an event and a record label guy asked her where her "lover" was, and she said her boyfriend Michael Fisher was around somewhere; the guy said "no, your sister". Ann got so angry that she went back to her hotel and wrote the lyrics for Barracuda.
Harry, the lead guitar player is Roger Fisher. He arainged all of Hearts music and gave the band sound you are enjoying. Sad to when he was kicked out of the band Heart lost their magic. Roger was with the band intill after the Dog and Butterfly album. Check out Minstrel Winds.
@@HarriBestReactions They didn't lose their magic after he left -- they actually had their biggest success after he was gone. He was, however a great guitarist and came up with several of their early key riffs. Sorry to keep jumping in but some of these comments are not factually accurate.
Heart got their start covering Led Zeppelin. They were so good at it that Jimmy Page himself gave them his blessing to cover their songs. They usually ended their concerts with a few Zep songs..,The big hair and ballads 80’s period was after the suits in the music biz had them change for MTV videos. They hated it and Ann burned out. When they returned it was on their own terms They still were performing before COVID Must be 70 by now.
You need to hear *THE WARNING* - 3 sisters from Mexico who all sing and all play their own instruments, and they rock hard. They just released a single from their upcoming 3rd album. YT won't let me post links but look for The Warning Choke and do the official video, not the audio. Their other songs include the drummer singing lead while drumming furiously, accompanied by the little sister, who Spector is honoring by producing a Signature Series bass in her name - and she's 16 years old.
Great, honest review Harri. The gender element is too often mentioned, some comments here have done it. Gender is not the issue, Ann and Nancy have super talent that is not tied to their gender. Ann's voice is one of the great Rock voices end of story. Nancy's guitar skills are often over looked also, so check out this recording of "Crazy On You" with Nancy's stellar guitar work, it not the best quality picture but the sound is good (ua-cam.com/video/wRKNXhG86VU/v-deo.html). Enjoy.

Always great to see you HarriBest ! Thank you Yuma, Arizona
You can start with all there early 70's music,, Magic Man, Dreamboat Annie, etc.. Just type Heart tribute to Led Zeppelin and the rest is history!! 👍👍
Still rocking it!😎😎😎😎
You're 1 of the best reactors on the whole of UA-cam. Such great vibes fr.
Van Halen also comes to mind...
yea, but AC/DC kept rockin'
It was called hair metal. Aerosmith and Heart are the two best examples of kick-ass 70s band that embraced hair metal in the 80s. But to Heart's credit they still had some great heavy music, it's just that Capitol Records only released ballads as singles.
@@johnkendall6558 So did Heart, but the label kept releasing slow songs as singles. Capitol Records was their best friend and their worst enemy at the same time -- kept their career going and brought them new levels of success, but damaged their hard rock credibility by not ever releasing any of their harder material.
Heart... the only band that can cover stairway to heaven live for Led Zeppelin, and killing it.🤟
Except that wasn't Heart that covered it at the Kennedy Center.
HEART "DOG & BUTTERFLY"
At one point in time Ann Wilson, Geoff Tate, late Layne Staley + late Chris Cornell lived in Metro Seattle. They had Chris P. Kyle as their singing coach.
Heart peaked in 1985 with their self titled album. These Dreams, Nothin at All, If Looks Could Kill + Never were hits.
Best collaboration.
Crazy on You with Gretchen Wilson.
Other hits.
How Can I Refuse,
Alone,
Will You Be There in the Morning.
Black on Black 2 on David Letterman.
Best cover by Heart:
Stairway to Heaven.
Do react!
Stairway? Wow! I have to do that!
Yes The Kennedy Centre Honours 2012
@@eviekelpie1 thank you. Just could not remember the show
@@HarriBestReactions The Kennedy center Honors is an annual event in the US where artists of all kinds (music, dance, comedy etc) are honored.
Great group. They also have covered some Led Zeppelin tunes
@@buckysnodgrass9252
But the result is the same. In this video, we are hearing the original soundtrack and not a live performance. It is interesting anyway. I will look for the video where we can hear the live performance.
Hey Harri! Thanks for another gem.
Two from seattle got it
Not only were they a mix of girls and guys, but they actually started out with just guys.
Love your reactions, thank you for these.
The part that starts at 5:27 is very reminiscent of Eleanor Rigby. I love early Heart for their Hard Rock albums
Now you've got to do the 1978 live version of Crazy on You with the Nancy Wilson intro
Oh i see..Some.other guy here said it was about them getting out of contract.
I saw them in concert at the Iowa State Fair in DesMoines Iowa , kool
Read the lyrics, it's about them getting out of contract.
Thats sad to hear..Happens with so many bands
@@HarriBestReactions They didn't lose their magic after he left -- they actually had their biggest success after he was gone. He was, however a great guitarist and came up with several of their early key riffs. Sorry to keep jumping in but some of these comments are not factually accurate.
Oh yeah , makes me happy , her name is Ann
The thunderous guitar riff in this song was inspired by Zeppelins Immigrant Song.
Driving song, if ever there was one.
Enjoy.
