I agree and have seen all three live. In no particular order Ann, Steve Perry and the G.O.A.T. Freddie Mercury. Ann, Nancy and Heart in '77, Steve and Freddie twice!
This song was written after a tabloid reporter implied the sisters were lovers. Their record company suggested it to increase record sales. “If the real thing don’t do the trick, you better make up something big.”
The record company didn't suggest anything with Heart, ever. Their first record company started all the BS in the first place. Mushroom Records ran a full-page advertisement showing the bare-shouldered Wilson sisters with the suggestive caption, "It was only our first time!" It's what started all the rumors and sued them. Was a long drawn out court battle resulting in two different releases of their second album Magazine. After that, record companies stayed out of their way.
This is the same band you did a reaction to of them covering "Stairway to Heaven", and a duet with Layne Staley of Alice in Chains called "Ring Them Bells". Not sure if you realized this the same band.
You really need to dig into their whole catalog. Even as they've gotten older, their voices have held strong and they sound and play as good as they ever have. More Heart!
Have you seen Heart’s tribute live to Led Zeppelin sitting right there in front of them at the Kennedy Center? They improve on Stairway to Heaven like you wouldn’t believe. They are incredible!!
This song always reminds me of my husband, who passed away last August. For the first time in awhile, this made me smile! I wasn't the good girl my mom and pops thought I was. When I was 16, I enjoyed drag racing. My dad was always restoring some muscle car. My first car was a 1972 Chevelle and was fast as hell. One Saturday night a boy showed up with his 1969 Nova talking all kinds of smack. His laugh was loud when he found out that I was up next. I was 4'11" and sat on pillows. I got to the line and put my Heart 8 track in the Pioneer system and proceeded to leave him in the smoke! 7 years later I married the boy! We were married for 31 years! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to smile in a week where I just wanted to curl up with my sorrow and sleep
I saw her live 4 years ago. She and her sister are still amazing. This is a song you will get a speeding ticket while driving. And everyone is a diva in their car for this song.
I have been fortunate enough to see Heart in the 70's,80's,90's and many times in the 00's. I live in Florida and they always add a couple stops in Florida every tour. Yes I'm old lol but seeing Ann Wilson live in her twenties and then see her bring down the house in her early 60's is crazy. Sebs Ann Wilson feels every word she sings and you will too.
Ann was considered the female Robert Plant. Female rock groups were extremely new and not since Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane had a female shown such powerful vocals The Wilson sisters were more than just a one trick oddity. They were actually talented. Excelling at songwritng and musicality. They lasted on into the 80"s. The music had to change from rock to more middle of the road MTV commercial fodder for the masses. The newer generations wanted the trendy pop glitz and glamor and slick video production. Heart were 70"s girls ...earthy and real. So glad I got to grow up during those times. Good vibes. Great music. The world before high tech. The world before it went mad. Thanks for your reaction and great appreciation of the Wilson sisters and their incredible band. Those guys were a huge part in what made Heart great.
Great song! Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. "Heart" have had so many great hits such as "Magic Man", "Crazy On You", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams" etc.
I saw them in '77, in fact it was the day Elvis died, August 16th 1977. They played Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll" to close out the encore and dedicated it to the King.
I was 13 when Heart hit it big and DANG those girls have been my role models ever since! Whenever I'm feeling beaten down I play that song and sing/scream through it! I ALWAYS feel better/stronger after!❤🤜🤛👊
Thank you so much for doing my song!!! You really made this old man's day!!! Danny speaks so highly of you 🙏 Since you are doing Country now "The Conversation" with Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams JR is a great song with two Country Icons singing a song about the King 👑 of Country music Hank Williams Sr Danny said you have it in your DISCORD
This song is about how all of the record Company’s said that woman couldn’t play rock like the guys so the wrote this son and barracuda was the record company.
I saw them live in 1979 The performance was just as strong as here. Ann had such power and control of her gifts that in concert she could belt and never went hoarse nor lost range.
For context of how amazing Anne Wilson is. She performed this song with her band a couple of years ago at 70 at Wacken, the biggest Metal festival in the world. And fkn killed it !
For the 1970's this was considered really aggressive, now it's a true head banger of a tune. As others have said this one is guaranteed to be near the top of the 'Speeding Ticket' playlist! That thumping riff will be stuck in your head for days. Now you've heard it the next time you hear the first 5 or 6 notes and you know it instantly! This is also commonly used when TV shows feature a certain classic American Plymouth Muscle car of the same name.
I saw Heart in concert in 1987, in Memphis TN,at the MidSouth Coliseum, and they rocked the house down! Ann's vocals are unmatched, and Nancy is a guitar playing beast. They are one of the best bands that has ever played!
They did 'Stairway to Heaven' honoring Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center in 2012. Ann was 62 when she did it & it was an amazing performance. If you know the song, check that performance out. If not, check out Led Zeppelin's version first & compare. Outstanding performance. The sisters are rock legends.
This isn't actually live. This the studio audio over a live video. This same video with the true live audio is here on YT as well. The whole band is fantastic live. My favourite live show of theirs is Alive In Seattle from 2002. It's on YT as well. Not a bad track on there and Ann's at her best there, imo. When she hits "The Note" in Alone, it's spine tingling.
Saw Heart October 1976 at Ohio State my sophomore with my brother. Front row tickets for $8.00 Blew the roof up with incredible music. She is in my top 5 for female singers. Enjoy
Heart is an Album rock band. Their songs are best listened to in order off the album. Like: Dreamboat Annie, Dog and Butterfly, they have themes that run throughout the entire albums...
Such a great band. Another performance is definitely worth checking out is from fears back. They did a tribute to Led Zeppelin. They perform stairway to Heaven for the Kennedy Centre honours really worth checking out. It actually has a Jimmy page if I recall in tears at a certain point the song. If you want another really good man to check out if you’re not familiar with them especially if you want another really really talented guitar player to ZZ Top.
This particular video is shown over the studio version of the song. But I saw Heart live in about 1986 or so and they sounded really great in concert too. It was an outdoor concert and I remember my girlfriend sitting on top of my shoulders so she could see. It was an awesome concert.
I was a teenager in western Canada saw them live many times and they rock sound better live so epic. You should check out the live version of crazy on you or Alone enjoy. This song is on guitar hero as well. thanks for reacting very fun.
I love this song because it's so dang tight. The drum/bass riff is constant, yet its syncopation keeps it fresh, and it ties everything together. Because of that riff, the rest of the band (vocals, instruments) can express individually, knowing that they are tied together into a song that just sucks you in. I never want it to end - I'm exhilarated and soothed at the same time.
My family was a bunch of barracudas, except for my dad. Once my dad died, it was on! Finally, I cut them all out of my life, and for the past 13 years life has been peaceful with my dogs, kids and grandkids, and loyal friends. My instincts are sharper and I can spot a barracuda before I let them in.
I saw them perform during this time period. They were amazing & sounded just like the record album i still have today though i haven't had a turntable in years haha. Thinking of the concerts back then makes me feel young for a second haha. The atmosphere was electric. My first rock concert was The Who. Good seats cost $7.50. Now that wouldn't buy a beer.
Thank You Sebs for doing this!!!! Ring them Bells with Layne and Heart was special!!! But Heart are the Queens of Metal! Yet another Seattle band kicking Booty
Love y'all bringing this back, it's been at least a decade since I last listened to this one. One of my absolute favs from the 70's. The history of this song is amazing. Respectfully, Sebs, love your reaction, yet the story behind it is best told by the songwriters themselves, as interviewed and pieced together by another UA-cam classic, Professor of Rock: ua-cam.com/video/kHj8Fe-BiNU/v-deo.html I hope you don't feel I'm imposing, I presume you will also appreciate the story of the sleazy behaviour that that triggered the creation of this masterpiece of telling off that ****** that dissed these two amazing singing sensations and rock star sisters back in the 70's. I reckon my dad's first wife was a barracuda. He met her in Belgium at the end of the war and fell hard; she wrung what she could out of him over the next few years, then ran off with a younger man. She used him for smuggling - she'd hide things in his luggage without telling him so he looked innocent and wasn't searched at customs! Of course, that only worked until he found out, after which he not only searched his own bags beforehand, he looked nervous and got checked. It was lucky for him she was canny enough to stop before he got arrested, since he'd have got the blame. Anyway, fantastic song!

There are a bunch of songs by different artists about their bad treatment by their recording companies and agents. Working For MCA, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, and on and on.
In the 70's, they were just as good as the studio version of the song, they had to be. You had to be almost perfect to be successful in this business in the 60's and 70's or you didn't make it.
Sebs, if Led Zeppelin are the gods of rock music, and they f-ing are, then Heart is the goddesses of rock! They are such goddesses that they performed Led Zeppelin's greatest song to Led Zeppelin's surviving members while having the son of the great John Bonham be their drummer. That's how badass these groups are!
You have to listen to the best of the best by Heart. I can help you with that 😊. They are "Sing Child", "Cook with Fire", "Mistral Wind", "White Lightning and Wine", "Heartless" and "Devils Delight". This is a good start ❤❤
Heart is incredible! I have seen them live 4-5 times! Amazing! Ann is the best female rocker EVER! and Nancy? the blonde sister? BEST female guitarist and among the to 10 rock guitar players ever! "Crazy on You" is great. Red Velvet Car is so good - but we cannot forget "Magic Man!"
And 50 years later Ann still sounds so good. A freak of nature. Best female voice of rock in my opinion
Yeah we saw them on their last tour I think 2019 totally badass!
Agree.
Great song from the 70s.
And Nancy's still the prettiest gal in rock!
Ann and Nancy - wow! ❤ Their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors for Zeppelin is legendary!
Yes they did a fantastic job on Stairway to Heaven!
If you can reduce Page and Plant to tears your doing something right!
Ann Wilson is one of the top 3 rock voices of all time.

In no particular order Ann, Steve Perry and the G.O.A.T. Freddie Mercury.
Ann, Nancy and Heart in '77, Steve and Freddie twice!
@@vernhoke7730actually like Steve’s voice over Freddie’s. So the G.O.A.T thing is debatable!

Magic Man, Straight Up, Alone, Crazy on you....its a deep rabbit hole

My favorite of all time, Hometown band from Seattle. I have seen them 9 time once in Miami Beach. One of my friends went to HS with the two.
Best time ever to be growing up in ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
