- In this video, Maryke discusses what causes golfer's elbow or medial epicondylitis. She then demonstrates what tests you can do to make sure that it's not something else, and finally she discusses the treatment options and demonstrates some stretches.
👉 You can use a strap around your forearm to relieve the pressure on the painful tendon in your elbow - they work for golfer's elbow as well as tennis elbow. Some options:
- Strap with pneumatic pad: geni.us/LOaTMH
- Strap with built-in pad: geni.us/OgYawKZ

I have watched a lot of videos on golfers elbow. But this one is the best explained video on youtube. Thanks 😊
probably the best online physio i've come across, when others say the usual generic blah blah blah, May really gives you so much more.
Extremely informative video! Thank you for your efforts!
Absolutely fantastic and thorough. I have seen quite a few videos by now but this is by far the most informative!
.
You are THE BEST. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great video. Incredibly informative and helpful. Nicely done. Thank you so much!! Agree 100% with the person below... this is one of best videos on UA-cam for medial epicondilitis
This presenter is incredible. I followed along very well. Good job. Actually detoured me from getting a cortisone shot
Excellente analyse !
Superb video!
Wow. Such a thorough explanation. Fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I just had a injection for golfers last week but now im worse! Now with every movement or stretch I feel way more pain and feel as if someone is pulling or gripping the hairs on my arms.😱😭
Best, most detailed explanation which correlates with my experience in so many details!
Its terrible that it has so few views and is surpassed by sensational crap and gym celebrities.
I will agree with all the positive comments ! Well done very thorough ! Thank you !
Ur best video ! Well explained
How beautifully explained! Thanks a bunch.
You're very welcome!
Absolutely the best video i have found. But how long it will take to heal approximately? An average rest time for a light and average cases?
Thank you brilliant through information and advice.
Our pleasure!
Goeie dag. :) thank you for making this video. It was so informative. After having been on hiatus from the gym during all the covid lockdowns, I've been actively back into weight lifting 5x a week. Unfortunately I think I've developed golfers elbow so I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor. I would hate to have this derail my return to fitness and wellbeing. Glad to know that there are treatments.
No wonder mine got worse .. I did stretches and exercises that someone recommended
It needs to rest for probably 2 weeks! Brilliant
Very good video. Will naproxen with due time take it away? I'm in very serious pain. 😭! Thank you. 🙏
As with most of your videos. Very comprehensive and detailed context of information!
I appreciate that!
Great video ! thank's !
Can you give your bibliography please ?
What if you don't play sports I have pain in my left arm what doctor should I see my pcp or a special doctor
Hey UA-cam you should make this video pop first in search
Awesome helpful video 👍😁
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for the information 🙏❤️🙏
This was very helpful, I started feeling this exact type of pain after too much bouldering (3 days a week for 2 years), stopped bouldering for 2 years to make it go away... Unfortunately it didn't solve it.
At least now I know more about it, will have to look into a treatment because I badly miss bouldering.
Bouldering
Did you fix your problem bro?
I have to add, from personal experience, two stretches that Maryke shows after 17:40 worked wonders for my 4/10 (intensity) golfer's elbow pain (from fingertip dead hangs). The key is to hold stretches for at least 90 seconds. Even better hold for 120 seconds (2 minutes). I heard somewhere that that's the time needed for tissues to "give way" and change effectively. Do not tolerate pain, just modest discomfort. Both stretches 2-3 times a day while sparing heavy physical exertion of forearm muscles. It worked quite well for me.
Thanks for sharing!

Is acupuncture a good option for golfer elbow tendonosis? Helping or solving the pain basically
Yes, it does help for some cases, so it is worth trying if you're not making progress.
Great info here!
What about Naproxen?
Is it ok to take it?
It's usually best not to take any NSAIDS for too long. It may be OK for short term but there is also evidence that it can delay healing. So only use it if absolutely needed and obviously if your doctor has said it is safe.
Hi!
Thanks for the video it helped me a lot
I just have some questions,
I'm climber and the morning after a session I was sure I had golfers' elbow.
Can I use KT tape and continue training? (With less intensity)
And how long does it take to be recovered?
I have the same question. My job is to climb cell towers 5 days a week. I'm guessing I can do the stretches, try not to overwork it, & massage afterwards... can I get all better & do my job at the same time is the question. How's ur elbow these days @kasra k.a
@@datguynate Same. Is it healed for u yet? were u able to work with it ?
@Thelightneverfollows well... i can't give a straight answer cuz I took the winter off from climbing and I haven't been doing any "therapy" on the elbow BUT I have been taking it easy when I comes to working out. I use the total gym (Chuck norris thang) cuz it's easy on the joints & I can do push-ups & day to day lifting & I'm not bothered by it cuz it has gotten better with time BUUUUT when I go to do chinups I can still feel it there lurking. I'll do a few chinups & that familiar pain is there, not intense but it feels like if I were to keep going it will get worse. So, I should prolly be doing these treatments during this time to get back to normal but homie hasn't responded to my question & honestly there's so many videos on this I'm wondering which ones I should actually use cuz it seems like a bunch of copycats but I want to hear from someone who ACTUALLY HAD IT & what therapy actually WORKED for them.
I'm back again. With an MRI showing no damage to tendons on the elbows, but you have tendon pain for years, is shockwave therapy a good option? In my case, I think it's the pronator teres, which would explain why supinating makes my symptoms that much worse (stretching can make irritated tendons much worse). I am not a fan of acupuncture, so I'd rather try that first.
Also : I tried removing adhesions in the past, but maybe I didn't do it properly so I'll try that first, then it would be SWT.
Shockwave can often produce really good results in cases that has been present for several years - definitely something I would try.
thank you for your answer and taking the time! @@SportsInjuryPhysio
I'm back again with another question haha! If the source of pain is the bicipital aponeurosis, other than removing adhesions, exercises and shockwave therapy, is there any other treatments?
I don't actually have an answer for that - perhaps asking a sports doc can help.
hi,im drummer i have tennis elbow and pain from inside of elbow ,but its not tendon on epicondula bouns its tendon under ,i practic 6-7 hours every day its overuse i know,i use pernaton gel like cooling efect its help ,and i use ice,i eat tumeric against inflamation i stop for 4 weeks with practicing it still hurts ,i do some exercises, its getting better but very very slow...how long i must wait to play again ?:-( maybe shockwave terapy will make faster recovery?
If you get really stuck - try something like "Gig Grips"... Also try not to practise that much - 3 hours a day is enough (much more than enough if you're injured). Good luck I hope things work out for you.
@Radoslav
In case it is still bothering you, I suggest, while you rest, do those two stretches she explains after 17:40 BUT hold for 90-120 seconds each stretch and do it 2-3 times a day. 90 seconds is a minimum for beneficial tissue stretching.
Is it risky to use shockwave therapy on an chronic golfer elbow tendonosis (when the tendon is degenerated, not just painful because of muscle and tendon adhesions)?
No - shockwave works best for longstanding tendon injuries.
@@SportsInjuryPhysio interesting! Is it because it affects the pain receptors? Other reasons?
I’m a golfer but my pain is not on inside it’s outstanding below tricep I also feel pain with specific movements muscle on top of for arm at the same time I have a extremely itchy arm prickly feeling no rash have you heard of that could it be nerves cause the itchy feeling my dr gave me antihistamine that does nothing. Thx
Yes, it can be nerve irritation causing it
Very good thanks. Love the Afrikaans accent😜
I’ve had tennis elbow for a year. I’ve done acupuncture, osteopathy, physiotherapy and five shockwave sessions. I could easily see myself doing forceful movements after a corticosteroid injection. I know it’s not recommended but I feel like I need surgery for the excruciating pain that’s not improving. I even stopped the repetitive movements that lead to the injury. I am just hopeless.
😣
when I am bending the elbow I get a painful click, irriation, what does that mean?
ulnar nerve popping over ur bone. Hope u got it sorted out
@@andreaskaalbyhjortskov8813 yeah 5 months later i know that now, but it's not just the nerve but actually the triceps as well...fuck my life. both my elbows and i already have a labrum tear in my left shoulder
@@AlcatrazMeow yeah, im in kinda the same situation. Sprained my left wrist and forearm and have severe nerve damage and tendon damage in my right forearm from weightlifting. Doctors say that I will maybe be alright enough to be able to lift gently in about a year or two. Keep your head high and focus on ur recovery and the fact that your gonna be alright someday. The pain will just get 1000 times worse with negative thoughts
there is no nerve compression or anything like that for me. So there isnt a "quick fix" to my problem
@@andreaskaalbyhjortskov8813 I have been training prior to my injury for 7 years. Trained at home with some concrete weights more than im used too, until one day I started having immerse pain in my shoulder, turned out i have a labrum tear, as this subsided both my elbows starting hurting too, turns its subluxation of the nerve and probably triceps too. that's 3 surgeries i have to pass. it's been 7 months and I still haven't done one not to speak about the recovery. I dont had a job before that shit and defenitly not now, and probably not for the coming 2 years too. I am 23 years old. If I will ever reach the day I can lay in my bed again knowing im alright, i am gonna party with 10 hookers on amsterdam and snort some coke. I doubt that day will ever come to be honest, so I may just die trying, because it's literally the hardest time of my life right now, and I simply dont see an end.
I got it from exact definition of over use. I give some rest for week/couple of months etc, each time once I return to sport/badminton it's back again. I am scared, won't be able to play the sport again.
how u feel now
@@getfitdontsit I started going to physio, with shockwave therapy, light stretches.I don't see myself getting better. One more week of physio to go. Hopefully I see some improvement. I stopped playing the game for a while now.
@@abhi224505 I also stop playing some of the sports I used to play. But finally did have surgery done yesterday. I'm hoping it's gonna get better than before.
How are you feeling now? Hope the surgery fixed it all for you.
@@junelnyc29 I am also curious. How it went after your surgery ? I am not getting any better with normal exercise.
Can you go back to weight lifting while you still have little golf elbow pain? or it should go away completely first? Assume you will hold lower weights as a start .. thanks.
I've been trying to train with 10lb dumbells and it irritates it.
@@suhwateezea.214 Me too :( I even tried to swim a little and it hurts .. it sucks that I cant lift any weight for God knows when!!!!!!
@@SamA-zf9sp If I could go back and not reinjure my elbow over and over for the last 7 months I would. My best advice to you is listen to the doctors very closely. Letting it recover properly is so much more important than rushing back to the weights. Plus you can isolate different muscles like abs and legs.
@@SamA-zf9sp hope the best for you
@@suhwateezea.214 thanks and same to you 🙏
I have golfers elbow and a stiff neck, what would help?
Hi Hector, You can do 3 things:
1. Exercises for both your neck and arms - stretches but also strength work
2. Make sure that whatever activity is causing it, you adjust that activity to not strain your neck and arm
3. Treatments like massage or dry needling of the neck and arm may also be useful
I wish I watched this 7 months ago before I kept reinjuring my inner tendon. Literally made every mistake she mentioned. Once you've hit bottom atleast you are looking up.
FYI I thought I had severe golfer's elbow.. Turned out to be Lyme Disease which can be deadly.
Any arm wrestlers here?
Yep
