This was originally built by my great great grandfather. Was passed over after losing in a card game I’ve heard. I’ve seen pictures of my ancestors when they lived in the house in its original glory

Went to Glaisnock house in 1977 for a primary school trip. We stayed a (5-day) week. Was so much fun. Kids from schools all over. We slept in the dorms. Fun evenings of games and activities and daytime outdoorsy stuff. I remember hiking and orienteering - such good memories. It’s a shame to see what’s become of it.

It’s a shame it’s been left to ruin. Many a building in Ayrshire has been left to rot or been demolished. These places will always have memories. Thanks for commenting 👍

I stayed here in 1983 when I went for an outdoor activities week with my school (primary 7, I was 10 turning 11).
There were magnificent Giant Redwood trees in the grounds. I learned orienteering around the grounds (I could already read a map, my dad was military)
I'm dismayed to see this in such a state. Fond memories of my time there.

I was a school boy “boarder” from 69 to 74 when it closed down as a School. It was immaculate with the gardens and grounds looked after by A Mr Walter Stewart, and us boys (about thirty or so full time boarders and seventy or so day pupils). The School had a fully functioning machine shop, and forge. wood working , forestry, agriculture, horticulture, live stock and arable land. Set in I think fifty acres, along with a traditional range of sporting and education curriculum. What It did not have was enough pupils and so the costs became exorbitant. Jack Gilmore was the head master and a daemon with the Tause as were all the school masters (the matron was Mrs Kirkwood i think). the main hall was so lovely with a huge lions head over a massive mantle with a fire on in the winter, the Parquet flooring was meticulously polished every day ,with a sweeping stair case that led up to the Headmasters apartment, the Music room, and on up to the math's /science rooms, and some of the boys dormitory's Big Doon and Wee Doon . (Nith, Luger, and Afton in the other side of the School) . I learned how to shovel coking coal for the boiler room and how to harvest neeps, tatties, pick Brussel sprouts and many many other skills, including building a boat! shooting, skiing, how to work a forge and a metal and working lathe ( and get my first set of Doc Martins) that all lead me to a pretty good skill set on how to fend for myself. to see it now is I suppose telling just how long ago was that.. (no one has mentioned the green Lady! she was alleged to live in the tower but that is just a daft story to scare the wee ones)

An interesting video spoiled by the daft spooky music. Another of the Big Houses that will no doubt mysteriously catch fire and end up being demolished. We are in danger of losing so much of our architectural heritage- those unique buildings that help give our towns and cities their unique skylines.

Thanks for watching and your point of view. Music on drone footage is really unavoidable as there is no sound. However, on a rewatch I do agree that some footage could have the sound altered or removed. Maybe a directors cut? 😀 Thanks for commenting. 👍

My great aunt married one of the bannatines that came from this family, unfortunately back about 1900s one of them spent all the money I'm not going into details what he done, my great uncle was angry what he done he joined the navy to get away from it all and was very bitter the rest of his life, I could tell so much about this family but not my place

Really nice old building. Shame the owner died. Hope a new owner comes forward. Probably not a lot of the original interior left but the exterior stonework and details are lovely. Conversion to flat's but suspect if not listed, demolished and new housing estate. Be a lovely house, but if costing 6 million could buy one already done in original condition. I would restore it as love old building.
