I was surprised when I saw some of the tartans in this old Manor home. In one wardrobe I saw a tie just like I own. Also many books were about the Isle of Skye. Then in one of the pictures of this old gent I saw someone I knew, who was Chief John MacLeod of Dunvegan Castle, Skye. My MacLeod family migrated to North Carolina in 1772 from Skye. I'm sure this gentleman was closely related to Chief John's family. They probably have holdings in London which is a more exciting place to live. Tim King. Phoenix, AZ.

I live in Western North Carolina in the mountains. We have many Scottish people here and hold the games in the Highlands. That's about 40 minutes from where I live. I am a McClure and my mom was a Buchanan., which is Irish. I loved the exploration! Many wonderful things in this home. I love the location. Thank you for sharing this with me. ❤😂

This just made me feel really sad. You literally can’t believe no descendants from the family are involved. If the inhabitants went into a nursing home or something the only thing I can think of is the family had had a falling out and were estranged from their kids. It is something that bugs me that it’s so hard to answer these questions. Sure, the kids may have got their own lives moved far away. Then maybe THEY died in a tragic accident or just from illness. If they are all still alive and they DIDNT have a family falling out, then maybe yea, they’re just too far away. But it still really does not make sense.

if the owner went into a nursing home, the property would be sold to pay for his care. Families don't just vanish so there must be some reason for this property to have been left behind. The house and contents could have been sold.

What a great house in a lovely location. This has been a very impressive property. I can’t believe how many valuable items have been left behind in there. I hope that it doesn’t get looted and trashed any time soon. This is one of the best locations I have seen. Thanks for showing us round on this explore. I would love to know the story to this property being abandoned. It’s like the owners just walked out, never to return. This property deserves to be saved and to become a happy home again. You have brought a lot of pleasure with these great videos. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Sam and Jess.

Do you ever research into these places to find out what happened to the owners and why everything was left behind? So sad that people spend a lifetime collecting 'stuff' and then to see how it can all be left behind. The family heirlooms and photos are tragic in the disregard of loved ones gone. Cracked me up how you were trying to be stealthy and then shining lights at windows without curtains.. flagging anyone who would've been in range of the home. Clever that.

The design looks the same as what was handed down to me from my great great gram from Ireland which was given to her as a wedding present in the mid 1860s. My house was broken into in the 1990s and all of my family antiques were stolen. I miss my moms cedar chest she had made with her own hands all tongue an groove with a lid she soaked an bent the wood herself. That piece only over 100yrs old meant more to me than any other piece. The guy could have been living as a recluse in squalor for years before his death as having a property but no longer the means to maintain it happens to many in old age.
If he has then died intestate there could be a ongoing legal battle between remaining heirs as to who gets what and these disputes can go on for years with no family member being allowed to remove anything which would account for your find.

I’m finding it hard to watch this. This home is clearly not “abandoned” as there’s no dust on lots of the counter spaces, bottles and cans; there’s even a brand new extension cord. Someone is stopping by and slowly packing up clothes and belongings.
By any measure, this is breaking and entering. You may not have taken anything (how can we know), but you broke into another person’s property, and riffled through the contents.
I’m half Scottish (Isle of Skye) and I remember people from my youth who wouldn’t have called the police, they would’ve taken “care”of any intruders themselves.
One day you will be arrested, and the body of evidence you’ve accumulated on UA-cam will be used as evidence.

You know that often times if yo7 see more than one kitchen it’s because one is just for the staff to make their own meals. Also, when you see bedrooms up on the top floor or in the attic that’s where they sleep. That’s why it’s not fancy like the rest of the rooms. When you approach the children’s rooms and find either rooms that seems to go follow a long inner doorway system or just two bedrooms side by side, that’s because the nanny was expected to care for the children sat night and during the night.

TS 13:08 you were curious about the making of the lampshade. They were made of aged stained parchment paper and a thick coat of paraffin wax for protection. That one was done fancier then the ones my mom use to make in the 60s. She would pull the warmed already waxed parchment strips over the top wire, then hand sew the bottoms with a shoe string cord that was also waxed. They lasted forever or until someone knocked over the lamp and cracked the wax. When parchment paper wasnt available, she would use brown paper grocery bags, usually they came with 2 bags together to strengthen them, then cut in strips and lay in a hot bath of paraffin. Same process with each lamp. An that my friends is how lampshades were made back in the day 😉 as for the change in house materials, usually families multiplied, woman and kids stayed close adding another section to the homes, an the husband's went off to work sometimes only returning on weekends or once a month. TS 24:53 The picture is, The Ordination of Elders in a Scottish Kirk, painting by John Henry Lorimer, 1891. Sam dont laugh at those screwdrivers in wall lmbo I have 2 butter knives holding my furnace door in place so it quits rattling lol. That place is not only massive but antiques worth a small fortune! 3 sections, 3 families. Btw I'm the youngest of 23, I'm sure my mom wished we'd had a house that size lol TS 41:38, there was another place you had visited that had a similar photo, if you remember, where the elderly couple sat while having the bagpipes played. Something of tradition back then? That photo is just to similar to the other. When I rewatch your videos, I'll message you on Facebook with photos. xx

From the looks of it, they added the barn to part of the house. It must have been really cold in the winter being it is next to a lake. Neat place!

What an explore such an amazing place, the house that just keeps on giving. I wonder how many people occupied this home, did you see any dates anywhere i was hoping you'd check on the candrel jar in the kitchen. To live there would be devine, beautiful in every aspect the house and the land. Such a shame and a sad case that it's being left to decay and rot. One of the best explores you have done a really incredible home. Cheers Jess and Sam intriguing from start to finish. XX ❤️💙

Indeed. They may have been respectful, but I can’t help thinking that any house locked up for a while might be unsafe from this kind of intrusion. It’s not fair game just because there’s no one home.

What an awesome house (or more like mansion). When you were coming across all those family photos its makes one wonder where on earth have the family gone to? It definitely appears to have belonged to some sort of Lord or someone high in Scottish society. But it was simply heart breaking to watch. You revealed what was clearly once a loving happy home filled with a wonderful family which has now become a distant memory. Its made me rather sad to see that home going to rack and ruin. I love the respect that you both show the place and the family that lived in it. Thanks S&J for making such a wonderful and poignant explore video. You pair are truly one of the best Urbex Mavericks out there! All the best. 👍.

I thought the same thing. And the pottery was worth a fortune also. Someone was taking things from the home. That extension cord was knew. It must have been Thiers because it was sticking out like a sore thumb and they acted as if they didn't see it. I'd love to be them, and see all these incredible places. But I do have to say if it was my family's properties I wouldn't approve of anyone entering.I understand that the place in falling in, but it still seems wrong to me. Not judging them,I'm just saying I wouldn't feel comfortable.

Like has been mentioned, it is crazy that a property like this has had no younger family members/generations to take it on. It's wild location and the responsibility, not to mention the cost to keep that place going would have been a scary prospect to younger members of the family in the changing times we live in. Whatever the reason it is a massive waste of a grand building and the memories it hides inside. Great explore guys. All the best to you.

You asked bout that tv downstairs, know there could be big difference between Europe and USA. But I think it looks like maybe 196os to 1970s. Reminds me of what I would have seen when I was little.
Thank you for shareing. Be safe out in the snow, it's cold. We got our first real good snow over weekend. Was -3°F in wee early hours Monday morning here in Maine USA

For an abandoned house, it is exceptionally clean in areas ie no dust! I would hate to think that strangers were trespassing on my family property. How did you get in?
