Archibald Henry Macdonald Sinclair, 1st Viscount Thurso, 1880-1970, the guy lead an amazing life from the trenches of the western front to parliament. a list of achievements as long as your arm and his belonging end up left uncared for in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere! unreal.
Unless there are no surviving members of his family it's shameful that they would let all his military items be destroyed like that. It's understandable that they might not have the funds to maintain the property but at least collect his personal and other valuable items from the lodge.

Thanks for bringing this one... the idea of building this house in what appears to be the middle of nowhere is mind boggling... it must have required tremendous effort.
My take is that the Victorian labyrinth of tight spaces would require massive redesign. The landscape even isn't much. A relic of bygone whimsy, let's go kill whatever wildlife. This one's a goner.

After watching a lot of these old home explore videos, it looks like building massive house's is not a good financial move because the maintenance and up keep are enormous. To the point were the kids don't want the burden, and a buyer knows it's better to start a new home. Realy nice explore scotland is such a beautiful country well done Alex.

That was by far the most fascinating explore I've ever encountered Alec, amazing historic place full of antiques, that Wemys set is worth a lot not to mention the clocks and Staffordshire figurines. It must have been just gorgeous in it's day, wicked that it should be left to decay but location looks pretty inaccessible. Thanks to you, well worth the epic trek.
Inasmuch as I respect the integrity of explorers who leave things as they are, I can't help feeling that items of substantial historic or monetary value would be better of in appreciative hands than left to deteriorate in the elements.
Where is the integrity in breaking into somebody’s house and putting its contents on UA-cam for everyone to see. Property of the Sinclair family who obviously wanted things left just the way they were, hence the property being boarded up. How long do you think those objects will remain there now?

That’s called theft. These are not treasures, they’re peoples private possessions. I know of one property near me we’re the owner has had to go to the trouble and expense of making it more secure because of these guys’ videos.

He died approximately 1970 I think, or certainly early 70s. So much to see in there, in fact I'm going to watch this again. I doubt this building will be in this state much longer and the weather is going to wreck it in the not too distant future. It was worth every minute of that long trek Alec so thanks for doing that to let us see inside this cracking old building. He was a cabinet minister and a close friend of Winnie. A railway engine was named after him which survives in preservation today. The model train was presented to Archibald at the naming ceremony how valuable is that model today which you see in this explore. It should be reunited with the owners of the steam engine.
I was so surprised by how much was left there. Beds, dressers, pictures and clothes. It’s crazy how they just up and left! The downstairs wasn’t too bad, but the upper isn’t going to make it much longer. Ty for the tour Alec, it’s quite interesting. Tc and stay safe always.
That’s former politician Archibald Sinclair’s lodge a great friend of Winston Churchill , died around 1970 in London, after two debilitating strokes the lodge must of been abandoned around then , it’s a shame those old historic photos are left to the elements and not put back in the draws were they were originally?! He had a WW1 military career and served along side Winston .

The room with the white stag head and the falconry glove is the tack room. The 'decaying seat' with the straw coming out is an old saddle lying on its side. You're looking at the bit that went on the horse's back on top of a blanket. There's a sturdy piece of wood protruding from the left-hand wall where it was meant to go.
If I am right, you guys really travelled very far north for this one. I think I have seen this one in pictures, its owner was a former Etonian who loved hunting but spent very little time in Scotland. I can hardly believe that lack of any vandalism, I stay in a central Scotland town where Greenfield House and the Leisure Bowl have seen massive damage in just a few years so it is refreshing to see items left untouched and almost caught in time. Considering its wild exposed location the fabric of the building has survived better than might be expected. Well done to the team.

This place its being taken care of, look at the grass, didnt you heard the dogs when they arrived? Im pretty sure that If you leave this place with more than your backpack , the locals will greet you with their guns. They are rich, hunting, and farm boys, better to not steal anything there.

I'm more interested in the architecture of the house and it's condition than the contents of what former occupants left behind. While the backstory is always interesting, it's also nice to see potential for renovation.

What an impressive place. You wouldn’t get neighbours from hell away out there! It’s a shame it has been left to decay like that. It’s so far off the beaten track that very few people will visit. If this building could be saved, it would be a great place, to get away from it all. There are some valuable contents in there, many of which would have been looted, I’m sure, if the property wasn’t situated there. Thanks for taking us round.
My kind of place, middle of nowhere, felt sorry for the dogs though. I have just rescued an ex poachers dog. He was skin and bones when I got him. I would love to live in that lodge. Creepy places are my thing🤣 Great explore guys, thanks for putting in the time to show us this.😀❤️👍
Wow!! Best explore Alec, and extreme contrast from the last l saw that was shear vandalism. So many stories to be told in this one, judging from the photos. I think that's a dead sheep poor wee soul, and beside it a full Wemyss pottery wash stand set !! quite valuable today. Amazing clocks, and a lot of Staffordshire flat backed mantle figureens etc. Just loved all of this. You guys are all so respectful. Great photography and drone shots of the wee graveyard. That is a really imposing building on the landscape, such a shame that it was allowed to slide into such a state of disrepair. This will be a massive task to refurbish. Lots of familiar sights in there, from the familiar dial sound of the old GP telephone to the household products , toys and ceramics. Clearly the owners had led an interesting life. I really enjoyed the explore, the drone footage was impressive - great to see the building as the landmark that it is. Beautiful stills. Thanks all, take care.
it is so sad that this beautiful old houses rotten away. i do not understand why nobody wants to live there. some of the bathrooms are bigger than modern single apartments. i would really appreciate to live in a place like that. i imagine sit by the cozy fireplace and restore one of the beautiful old clocks. a tube radio is playing softly in the background . . .

This is great! So many relics of past eras. The 'disintegrated seat' is a heavy horse harness 'pad' for a Shire or draught horse. The box with the inserts is an Edwardian 'knife box'. I think the lines and names on the wall are to mark the height of people who stayed there.

5:11 Wow! That is impressive and looks like a castle from the distance.. These folks definitely wanted privacy. Probably the reason they built it there. You can see for miles of arriving visitors, friends and the authorities.. Can't wait to see the inside Alec.
Hunting lodges were / are in remote locations to be closer to the wildlife they wanted shot. It's not a house for living in permanently. It was looked after by a groundskeeper when not in use, and 'in use' was only during hunting season. Hunting lodges were build on an estate, and the permanent dwelling on that estate would have been much closer to the main road / a village. Hunting lodges in Scotland are a late 18th / early 19th century thing, they came into existance once the landlords in Scotland kicked the crofters out of their estates to give more room for the deer and grouse populations to hunt. And the sheep for their wool. Hunting (including fishing for salmon and trout) and sheep gave far more profit than crofters.
The lodge itself was very impressive! The staircase is beautiful, as was the home in it’s day! The names on the wall were nice to see! So many people spent their lives there! It’s a shame the uniforms weren’t preserved! The countryside surrounding the lodge is stunning! Great video! Thank you!
Brilliant, that model train on mantle piece was presented on the day the train was re-named after him, that man had some military history with Churchill. Enjoyed that mooch about 👍🏻
Stunning house, great staircase ~ it must've been cosy & beautiful in it's good old days. The drone views are great,, Looking at the huge mound it's built on, reminds me in some Neolithic tomb or feature. It's a special location for sure geographically. Nice to see so much left untouched, the kitchen pans, ceramics, beautiful clocks & everything else. Perhaps the names & dates written on wall were the guests staying for social or hunting occasions. Poor pigeons probably came down the chimneys & got stuck there. Thanks to you & team for persevering & sharing, really enjoyed it. 🙂🏴
My grandad came from Scotland and served in the Parachute Regiment in the 70s. He was from Motherwell. I've always loved Scottish countryside and this video scratched my itch perfectly. I think the box is a storage unit for fishing flies. On a separate note, it seems a frightening and sinister place, not spooky, more like dangerous owners or paid thugs might arrive. Also looks as though it has secret passageways and basement underneath and as though secret activity went on there. At the end you all seem relieved to get out of there.

Cycled past this place on a bikepacking trip, took a photo through the window of the main room. Came in the way you did and out the other way past the house. There's a bothy not too far away too. Must have been nice in it's day ! ATB

That must be Caithness....and that Lodge is a few miles from the village of Watten near Wick....I have always wanted to go there and see that place.....

This abandoned house is worth of my past 10 generations. But I have built best house in my 5 generations, just at my 27yr.

You did notice the dog kennel? Someone lives right there. Property is not overgrown, someone is looking after it. Not the house, but outside.

The object on the floor in the room with the stag is not a chair it's a saddle. The girth strap was hanging on the wall near the stag. Thanks for the wonderful tour.

That is a really imposing building on the landscape, such a shame that it was allowed to slide into such a state of disrepair. This will be a massive task to refurbish. Lots of familiar sights in there, from the familiar dial sound of the old GP telephone to the household products , toys and ceramics. Clearly the owners had led an interesting life. I really enjoyed the explore, the drone footage was impressive - great to see the building as the landmark that it is. Beautiful stills. Thanks all, take care.
it is so sad that this beautiful old houses rotten away. i do not understand why nobody wants to live there. some of the bathrooms are bigger than modern single apartments. i would really appreciate to live in a place like that. i imagine sit by the cozy fireplace and restore one of the beautiful old clocks. a tube radio is playing softly in the background . . .

This is great! So many relics of past eras. The 'disintegrated seat' is a heavy horse harness 'pad' for a Shire or draught horse. The box with the inserts is an Edwardian 'knife box'. I think the lines and names on the wall are to mark the height of people who stayed there.

5:11 Wow! That is impressive and looks like a castle from the distance.. These folks definitely wanted privacy. Probably the reason they built it there. You can see for miles of arriving visitors, friends and the authorities.. Can't wait to see the inside Alec.
Hunting lodges were / are in remote locations to be closer to the wildlife they wanted shot. It's not a house for living in permanently. It was looked after by a groundskeeper when not in use, and 'in use' was only during hunting season. Hunting lodges were build on an estate, and the permanent dwelling on that estate would have been much closer to the main road / a village. Hunting lodges in Scotland are a late 18th / early 19th century thing, they came into existance once the landlords in Scotland kicked the crofters out of their estates to give more room for the deer and grouse populations to hunt. And the sheep for their wool. Hunting (including fishing for salmon and trout) and sheep gave far more profit than crofters.

The lodge itself was very impressive! The staircase is beautiful, as was the home in it’s day! The names on the wall were nice to see! So many people spent their lives there! It’s a shame the uniforms weren’t preserved! The countryside surrounding the lodge is stunning! Great video! Thank you!
Brilliant, that model train on mantle piece was presented on the day the train was re-named after him, that man had some military history with Churchill. Enjoyed that mooch about 👍🏻

Stunning house, great staircase ~ it must've been cosy & beautiful in it's good old days. The drone views are great,, Looking at the huge mound it's built on, reminds me in some Neolithic tomb or feature. It's a special location for sure geographically.
Nice to see so much left untouched, the kitchen pans, ceramics, beautiful clocks & everything else.
Perhaps the names & dates written on wall were the guests staying for social or hunting occasions. Poor pigeons probably came down the chimneys & got stuck there. Thanks to you & team for persevering & sharing, really enjoyed it. 🙂🏴

My grandad came from Scotland and served in the Parachute Regiment in the 70s. He was from Motherwell. I've always loved Scottish countryside and this video scratched my itch perfectly. And it went form loud dog barking and wind noise to absolute silence. Remote anda empty, but the haus with the dogs is to near not to be maybe the lodge guardian place? Just an idea, lovely camera work and sceneriy, Scotland is so magnificent.18:50 fish tail probably.

Wish you had zoomed in on all the framed pictures. There were some gems there. It's a shame they're going to rot away wasted and forgotten.
I think the box is a storage unit for fishing flies.
On a separate note, it seems a frightening and sinister place, not spooky, more like dangerous owners or paid thugs might arrive.
Also looks as though it has secret passageways and basement underneath and as though secret activity went on there.
At the end you all seem relieved to get out of there.

Cycled past this place on a bikepacking trip, took a photo through the window of the main room.
Came in the way you did and out the other way past the house. There's a bothy not too far away too.

That must be Caithness....and that Lodge is a few miles from the village of Watten near Wick....I have always wanted to go there and see that place.....
