The Monogram model kit is exceptionally accurate, especially for 1978 when the star wars and star trek models were close but no banana. Comparing the Moebius and Monogram parts side by side and built, they are near identical. Were it physically possible to do, the built Moebius kit is a near-perfect-fitting skin over the Monogram built kit and the one could just fit in the other. And of course, Moebius went under and has been owned by Pegasus Models for the last several years.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 Glad to help. Someone may be able to speak to the specifics better than I... As to the various model kits, search "modelmantom" channel and there for 'viper' He has a monogram/revell kit side by side and a moebius kit with some parts comparisons like the engine block for example. Very thorough look Good stuff there.
I've got the kit in storage and the display piece out. I'll have to compare the two! The pre-built model is something else for sure! Great video as always.
Thats i great model. I have their reimagined series kits and those are also excellent. This one is part of the series of models they released as prebuilt display pieces. This also included the galactica which i also have as the model tk be built. The only down side to the prebuilt model is the visible seam lines in the body that i would have renoved had i built it myself. Other than that, it's a great piece

I would like to say hi and I just subbed , I have a question : Is there a Cylon Centurion model kit? Not the new Cylon , but the original Centurion, need 2 of them , one to be silver and chrome and one to be gold and bronze
I actually have this kit in the box and just looking at your video of the pre-built kit the weathering it looks like crap especially the four airbrushed spots towards the front and then they didn't even bother sealing up the seam down the middle on the top where the red stripe is. Glad I didn't spend the extra money on this.
I'm building this viper, it looks like the same kit even the seam lines. The stand is the same and yes it comes with landing gear but the cylon raider is even better.
Easier to build without the landing gear. And would be very delicate, the landing gear and the doors could be knocked off during shipping. I think most people would rather have it in flight mode, that’s how I always imagined it. I added lights to the engines and beefed up the display stand because it was really flimsy.
I have the mobuis classic cylon raider pre finished. It’s huge. I also have the mobuis classic Galatica and the new series version. Both pre finished. I wish I had gotten the new series pre finished Pegasus.
While I think the weathering on the nose could be a little better, I love the Viper pilot in the cockpit! I think Eaglemoss took the easy way out with the inaccurate darkened windows.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, weren't the Viper markings in the show more orange than red? And I remember for a fact that the old Revell model kit from 1979 definitely had orange decals.
I can't speak to the Viper, but I have the Mobius 2005 Galactica as well as the Eaglemoss version, and the Mobius model is cleaner and more detailed (the flight pods especially). Of course, the Eaglemoss Viper has a smoked windscreen and no pilot, just the chair inside.
Absolutely beautiful! Okay, i know i'm in the minority here, but it'd be so cool if it had a lower hatch which would pop out a two-wheeled Turbine! 🏍️😅
Yes, the kit is identical to the finished model you show, sans assembly and paint of course. However, the KIT did come with optional landing gear and the rear exhausts are molded in clear so you can light up the engines if you want. A skilled model builder can do a much better job with the kit than the finished model, as a good builder will fill in the seams and gaps. The "spotty" weathering on the nose isn't all that good either. Moebius uses those clear stands, reminiscent of the ancient Aurora style, on all their kits whereas Round 2 uses a far more sturdy solid metal post and dome base with their Star Trek, Star Wars, and Space:1999 kits. It's too bad one cannot post pictures here, as I could show you. Can't even post links, so there's no way to demonstrate any of what I'm saying. Do you have a Fascistbook page that we can share stuff on?
I have this model! It really is the holy grail of Viper models! I paid $109.00 Canadian for this about 5 years ago from a local hobby shop! It has gone up in price since then, and I imagine it's because of the rarity of being able to find them! Ebay would be your best bet to find one!
I have the Eaglemoss MKII & MKIII (Blood & Chrome) Vipers. They are heavy, very well detailed and worth having your collection, especially the MK-III as Moebius did not produce one, that said, the MOEBIUS model kits in my opinion are the Gold standard for all things BGS currently, both the Vipers & Raptor (which I also have) are superior in their detail/panel lining, your option of landing gear down or up, resin pilots for the Vipers and detailed plastic pilots on the raptors, the decals are good quality as well. The only downside to Moebius now is the ridiculous prices the kits are going for now, especially the Pegasus.
I grew up on both. For a short period my local station bundled Star Trek, BSG and Buck Rogers every afternoon! It was great! Trek is a different type of show.
Shame about that ugly seem running down the center of the nose, Modelers like me putty and sand that down nice and smooth to where it's not visible. That's why I'd rather build the model myself rather than purchase these pre-assembled things.
I am a STAR WARS fan, but Also love BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!. awesome colonial Viper!!.

Thanks for that info! The Eaglemoss Viper has become the gold standard for BSG collectors BUT I think this one beats it!
Where can I find one if that will cost me in an arm in leg? I’ve been looking for one for quite a while.
Your best bet is still EBay. They pop up ever so often (with prices that are all over the place!).
I built a viper model when i was a kid in the 70's
Those original Monogram kits were the best! Thanks for watching!
is this better than the one you featured 3 months ago?
Took it out of its sealed box collectors asking to see it up close.
It is a great piece but the very rare Icons Viper which I was lucky enough to buy 24 years ago is the pinnacle of Viper models.
Now that’s a legend! Congratulations on owning one!!
The Mk 1 viper is my favorite space fighter, 2nd is the TIE fighter.
It’s my favorite as well!
Needs an led mod in helmet and thusters and on the launch tunnel
Now that would be cool!
Absolutely beautiful!
Okay, i know i'm in the minority here, but it'd be so cool if it had a lower hatch which would pop out a two-wheeled Turbine! 🏍️😅
That's a great idea!
Eaglemoss is my favorite both vipers MKI, AND MKII..the let down is there is no Viper Pilot in the Eaglemoss/Master Replicas.
Landing gear would have made the Eaglemoss near perfect!
I built a bsg viper model rocket myself (not a kit) & it looks & flys great! It just launches vertically instead of horizontally. 🤣
Nice work! Is that the Estes Viper?
Or I should say canopy, not cockpit. 🙄

It would be great to see Moebius re-release these, there's very little on the market nowadays.
