- I thought it was about time that I compiled and shared
a slide show of the build progress so far.
It's been quite the journey and certainly the biggest
project I've ever undertaken.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the last 8 years
progress of the Viper build.
Once completed, my aim is to trailer the Viper to Cons, displays, charity events, etc
All music by yours truly

I became a pilot because that was as close to flying a viper as I could get. This is truly incredible! You realize you're going to have to build the Cylon ship next right?
Thanks for watching! I can certainly understand how you were motivated to become a pilot - good on you for achieving your goals! I was never a huge fan of the Cylon ships, but I did like the Buck Roger's Starfighter a lot...😉
I'd like one so it be altered to be a genuine UFO for Scare Tactics
prank my UFOs don't exist believing kid sister with such a heart attack
I want to see this guy build the Galactica 🤣🤣
Me too. I'm a pilot for a US legacy airline. BSG and Star Wars was it for me.
Don't know why this randomly popped up into my feed, but I am so glad it did! I know the old viper is not anywhere near the current year relevance, but she is a beauty! Your hardwork, dedication, and attention to detail on this project is nothing short of awe inspiring and mind blowing.
I've seen other Viper projects but none that use actual aerospace build techniques - they're usually plywood and fibreglass affiars. It's as near as dammit an actual airframe you've built and it's the most impressive thing i've seen in a while. This build deserves more videos and you deserve more subscribers.
Thanks very much. WW2 warbirds were my first inspiration as a kid. Go hard, or go home 😁
@@projectcolonialviper2094 I'm an assistant curator in an aviation museum. I'd love to put this on display next to our Harrier!
@@fubkenste1n wow! that is high praise indeed! I'd love nothing more than for the Viper to be displayed at an aviation museum - even if it is a fictional aircraft. She'd look nice sitting next to a Harrier 😎😎
@@projectcolonialviper2094 Once she's done give me a shout! You could always loan her out for a while ;)
Just come across this 3 months later and I'm amazed, the level of expertise and dedication is just brilliant. Always loved Battlestar Galactica especially the Vipers. Looking forward to seeing your progress later in the year.
Thank you, much appreciated!
This is unreal!
Your skill and drive is beyond belief!
Bravo!!
Thank you so much 😀
I grew up watching Battlestar Galactica. My Kindergarten Teacher broke my heart when she told me i could no longer where the replica outfit my mom made me to school every day anymore, and that I could not sign my work papers as 'Boxey'. At home I had a cardboard box from a refrigerator that I cut a cockpit out of and put appliances from my house into to pretend they were gauges. I flew so many adventure in that Viper. I still dream about it sometimes many decades later.
I still love Battlestar Galactica just as much today, but my imagination cannot take me on adventures like my 6 year old mind could do. I swear if I could build what you have in my yard, I would sit in it and stare up at the stars in the black night sky and be able to fly adventures with Blue Squadron once again.
I envy you, and am so amazed and proud of what you have built. You are making a dream into reality. Thank you for doing this build and sharing it.
My other favorite sci-fi fighter was the Buck Rogers star fighter it just looked so sleek! Love that you are using a monocoque structure.
I agree, the Buck Rogers star fighter is a gorgeous design!
Make an X wing. Star wars
Which was a rejected concept design for a Viper that was recycled for Buck Rogers.
Awesome project and execution. Props for going that extra distance and making the frame from aluminium, instead of wood. I've always love that spacecraft, something so plausible/realistic about how it looks...
Thanks mate! I do like a challenge - aluminium was my ultimate material choice, although it blew out the build time considerably...
I would have done sheet steel and overlaid it with aluminum for superior strength
@@Swanlord05 Never mind ‘I would’… can’t wait to see your “better” engineering efforts.
@Simonize41 ......I have made a better model its ....just waaaay smaller
Why has UA-cam only just shown me this! it's fantastic. So much planning and hard work, well done don't stop 🙂
"Core systems transferring control to Probe Craft. Launch when ready!"
You're a man on a mission! That is a remarkable piece of work, even better than the original one built by Universal for the show. You are building the ultimate pice of Battlestar Galactica memorabilia truly AWESOME! I cant wait to see the final product. But it looks like you'll have to move it to the center of that building to finish it and remove the front wall of your building to get it out?
one of my all-time faves growing up and then to see the remake with Olmos was the best time to be alive lol. man what a series and to see it finished made me sad. I wish they could have made more. btw i worked in sheetmetal for years and i can feel those cuts with every pic hahaha
Could you imagine having the screen attached to a computer/Plauststion where you could play space flight combat games like PS 2 Battlestar, Xwing and the like? Man they’d be sweet.
Very impressive. I knew Richard Hatch for a short time before he passed and he would've LOVED this so much. Can't wait to see it finished. A Cylon ship is next? :)
Thanks! Yes very sad that Richard passed. I had hoped he might get to see it someday
I knew a kid in Rome, Ga, in 1977, that built the bridge from Star Trek in his basement. This is something he would do too. Skill is one thing, but the dedication to stick to it is on another level.
Awesome build looking forward to seeing it finished, respect.
Thanks for watching! All being well, hoping to have most of the build completed by the end of 2023
I love this build, you done a great job. Just imagine this Viper being space worthy 😊. Noticed you were at 999 subscribers, so I’m proud to be your 1000th.
Looking forward to your next video of the full scale Battlestar build . Which one ? Galactica ,Pegasus Atlantia or one of the others I'm hoping you can do an entire fleet.
one project at a time 😉
Boy! Now I really, REALLY, regret getting 'separated' from my set of 'official' "Battlestar Galactica" blueprints!
Now, are you planning to outfit your ship with the 'C.O.R.A." flight computer, and increase its speed. (Friendly advice, whatever you do, put in the extra turbo-boosters, but don't leave out the laser pumps!)
Lol 😁😎
Be sure to upload the video of you buzzing Sydney Harbour, when you get the build finished!
Okay so now that you sparked everyone's curiosity, it's time for an aviation company to build a working replica, if at least to fly in atmosphere!
Impressive work. Can't even imagine what he has in it as far as cost. But it looks amazing for sure... Thumbs Up!
My mind is blown. The project's scope and your craftsmanship and ingenuity are incredible. Bravo! Thank you!
Thanks for the "slide show" video! Its so exciting to see it all coming together. I look forward to future videos!
Thanks for watching!
I think it's great to build a life-size mock up and take it to events. And explain how mockups are built for television and movies to educate people on what you can do with you.Put your mind to it and you have a vision.I think it's great
Kool, but I never understood the tactical advantage in a helmet that lights up the face of the pilot I guess so the Cylon's could see who to shoot at. They did have their revenge tho in 2023 every car manufactured must now feature the front fascia of a "Centurion" or it doesn't sell.
😁
Watching this is like watching a reconstruction of a WW2 Aircraft. Serious kudos to you for the time, effort, money and skill you have put into this. It is probably better built than the original stage prop used on the set of the original movie and tv series.
Thanks so much for noticing. That was my goal from the outset - I loved WW2 Spitfires, Corsairs and Mustangs as a kid in the mid 70's
Battlestar Galactica! This was my youth! The first kiss with a girl, the first beer and all the first this we did! Wonderful time!
This Viper is absolutely amazing!
👍😎🇦🇹
Thanks mate! I think that's probably why the popularity of the show has endured - it brings back great memories of that time in people's lives
Some folks ask the question, “what if we built this?” and then think nothing more.
You thought “why not build it for real?” and this labour of love is the answer.
Fantastic work - I hope you really enjoy the end result!
Amazing job! Quick question, is that aluminum?
Thanks mate! Yes, the sheet metal is all aluminium
WTF.. You're building a Star Wars spaceship in your garage? 😅
I’ve been keeping an eye on this….just outstanding work. It’s so nice to see the interior matched up to the exterior. Congratulations and can’t wait to see it complete!
That's so amazing!! This was my favorite show as a kid and I drew so many Vipers on my school book it was crazy. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Core Command transferring control to Viper patrol.
You may launch when ready, 💯 ❤
What do you do with it when done?
I always wondered what are the air intakes for in space?
You are not supposed to ask those questions...
The plan is to display it at conventions and shows.
Good question on the air intakes, best not to overthink that one 😊
Space Air™!
@@projectcolonialviper2094 Atmospheric flight they can fly in space and in planet's atmosphere, so it would make sense to use the atmosphere to replenish and supplement on board fuel. And because "_______-ianium "" ;)
WOW!!! Beautiful! Your dedication to making the model out of metal is quite impressive. By the way, given the number of Eucalyptus trees in your outdoor pics, are you in California or Australia?
You sir, have an eye for detail - Queensland Australia
Wonder on how you are going to get the ship out of storage when you have the landing gears down. Unless you’re going to put it on the launch platform?
Tail fin is removable
This is awesome. I wanted my dad to build this for me when I was a kid in the 80's watching the reruns... it didn't happen.
This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen, subscribed.
Looks good, now all it needs is functional landing gear, avionics and real jet engines.
I'll have to leave all that to smarter people than me 😊
Looks fantastic! You obviously build airplanes just judging by your skill set and tools
Thanks mate! I wanted to build aircraft as a kid, but life sent me in a completely different direction. So here I am fulfilling that dream now...
There are no words suitable to describe this build. None.
O M G!, I didn't know this was a thing! The Viper is the best looking ship in all scifi, I often dreamed of making one out of just plywood, It would not have looked like this, You did an absolutely incredible job.
Wow. Impressive! I like crazy people!
I just came across pictures of this on Facebook from somebody else and in my repost I wrote: "And then people think ME crazy! I need to marry the guy who built this." 🤣😂
😁
Time to start the assembly line and make a bunch of them. Oh yeah, one look at this and I had to subscribe. I struggle with paper airplanes and this guy makes replica's of Battlestar Galactica Vipers! And please make it fly, just don't tell the FAA let em think it's a UFO. LOL
Thanks mate! I'll work on the flying part 😉
Dang. Almost an actual start of the real thing... Funny thing is that the technology necessary for that already exists.
Ion drive is close. I've got a magnetic shield design. I'm sure you could find everything you need... with the exception of Galactica or her sisters. Oh...but to build a launch tube on a satellite and go... just once.😊 You would absolutely have to wear the helmet, if just for nostalgia.
Yes the helmet is an absolute necessity! 😊
Clearly a joke: This is not a Viper, but the prototype of the highly secret Tranch-7 Eurofighter Typhoon, with than 3engines. ;)
👌
😁😎
You must Be so proud of yourself and all people who have helped you in any way they have contributed in the making of this Iconic Masterpiece!!!
Thanks, yes it will be good to get her finished. A solo effort up to this point, but plenty willing to lend a hand.
I am impressed.
You could ask Elon Musk to launch your Viper into space when it's finished building.
Thanks, much appreciated! Yes I need to get in contact with Elon 😉
Why does this video only have 21K in views??? A build that literally mirrors real life light aircraft manufacturing.
I just figured it had only been up for a few months
Starbuck would be proud.. sh!t..that's better construction than nasa ever did. When is the 1st flight? I wanna be there!
Cheers mate! Stay tuned for further progress reports...
enough room to get some rolls royce power in there.😄👍
Totally awesome! Pls do video for flight testing😅
Seriously tho 16 yr old me just wet himself in excitement.
thanks mate! 😂
Back in high school I could draw the heck out these fighters on anything I could find.
yes I hear ya 👍
A Mk1 and Mk2 in Australia, awesome! Would like to see them together one day
Yes the plan is to get the two Vipers together. The main issue is the tyranny of distance - there is around 1200km distance between Baz and myself. We'll make it happen!
You clearly spent much more time on your build than the original show creators who slapped it together from plywood, plastic and junk.
Yes a lot more time I suspect - hopefully it lasts longer than the original filming prop
looks like a lot of inspiration for the Viper came from Gerry Anderson TB4 yellow Sub . looks a bit like thunderbird 4 with longer thiner nose same tri engine set up as TB4.
I hadn't noticed that before, but yes I see it now. Between TB4, the UFO Interceptor and the Angel Interceptor I can see many design influences
I can't wait to see this finished....Thank you for bringing this to real life
I almost declared war on the white house when the original broadcast of Battle Star program was interupted by Jimmy Carter and his middle east peace talk fiction show came on in the middle of the showing. Glad to see someone still remembers this. Nice job. Now build one that really flys and it would be worth waiting for.
Thanks mate. Luckily in Australia we didn't get the broadcast interruption 😊
Awesome job, keep it up!
Big BSG fan, still watch my Cylon boxed DVD set. Your metalworking skills remind me of fabing on a supermodified racecar back in the 80's. Looking forward to the updates!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks mate!
Mark 1 viper.
Looks very good.
The million dollar question is. What does she look like now?
Still a work in progress, but on the home stretch now. Stay tuned for an update video at some point
Looks ready for a Con display.
Still a little way to go before it's ready for a con, but getting there slowly
Ought to make C.O.R.A. Get someone to do the voice on a two way. Have Dirk Benedict come over have a seat and let him converse with CORA.
👍
That steering/control yoke tho….👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I was happy the way that turned out 👍
Who is doing ( or did ) the Cylon ship??😎
Is it going to fly? How about the jump to light speed? Blasters?
Working on it, but need a bit of help with the light speed physics 😉
This isn't for USA space force right lol😊😊😊😊😅
😁
Apesar de que el Vaiper es una hermosa y fantástica nave de combate, siempre me pregunté, que función tendría la toma de aire frontal en el morro si no tiene ningún motor central que enfriar
No estoy seguro de la función real, pero se ve muy bien 😎
Now to get a experimental aircraft pilots license get the radio controled toy turn the engine into real jet engines and let's make ET fly
I hear ya!
This is too, too cool!
So- Cylon raider next or straight to full size Battlestar?
Thanks mate! 😁
WOW.........................THIS IS COOL............
How f*****g cool is this and true to the original, not that reimagined crap.
Thanks mate!
I'm an envious man Baz, not just because f the Viper but because of your skills. It looks like you've done a bit of a rebuild since I saw it last a couple of years ago.
Thanks mate, but Baz is building the Mk2 Viper 😊 He's also bit further along with his build. We're hoping to get the two Vipers together 😎
i dont even know what a speed square is used for or why its called that so damn that is impressive. not to mention really expensive
Thanks! Cost is far less than your average car restoration, but that is excluding my time and labour...
Looks great, obviously. But, can I ask why?
Thanks. I guess it's like people who climb mountains or run marathons - it's a challenge. I've been an aero modellor, car restorer and sci-fi fan for years, so I'm channeling my interests into one project. When finished it will be displayed at Cons etc - a lot of people would love to see a full size star fighter at a Con
This is something that nobody actually needs but doggone it everybody wants
I might have to borrow that 😎
How the frak is it that you don't have more subscribers???
slowly building up
In the 50 -70s you could have been a model maker on every sci fi movie
I can tell you I would have enjoyed my work a lot more
You should get the Cylons to build it for you instead, they would build it by your command.
😁😂😎
Next should be Buck Rogers Starfighter
Looking for volunteers - who's up for it?
The only problem... Where are you going to get the engines from??
Yeah not sure if Pratt & Whitney, GE or Rolls Royce can help?
Awesome construction like filming studio prop stuff 👍🏻😁
Incredible, absolutely incredible. Look forward to seeing more progress videos in the future.👍🏻
Amazing.. I used to draw the Viper on my school books as a kid! 😄
You'll Shoot Your Eye Out
🤣
Killer Job! Can't wait to see it finished!
Thanks very much my friend!!
Great! I hope you are will finish your project :)
Thanks!
Most Excellent!
Now make it fly for real. ;)
I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker 😁
Wow... Big job👍👍👍!!! Respect dude👍
Thanks mate!
Which engines will you use?.
Enjoyed Battlestar Galactica. Saw It When It First Hit The Cinema. Got The Movie On DVD. Special Effects, Amazing.
The movie release was very popular here in Australia. I waited in line with my family for over an hour, only to find the theatre was full when we got to the front of the queue! A huge disappointment - had to wait for the TV release...
Dude, this is awesome !🤩 Great job so far. What's the plan with the finished Viper ? Cosplay ?
Thanks mate! Yes pretty much to display it at conventions and shows, maybe some charity events.
ギャラクティカ大好きです、当時ハマりました! バイパーかっこいいですね!
どうもありがとう、バイパーの魅力が遠くまで広がるのを見るのは素晴らしいことです!
Everyone has thought of building an X-wing, Millenium Falcon, Knight Rider, General Lee… but nobody thinks to makes one of these. Too funny (and awesome). Thanks for sharing the video.
Looking at size of the engines, Mach 2 is easily obtainable
😎👍
You are making it more realistic than the ones on the sets, they were made out of wood.
a lot more work, but hopefully worth the effort
Had mixed feelings about the show, but over time, I come to appreciate it. Battlestar Galactica was the original 'Wing Commander'. My take on the 'Viper' that it's mainly a space fighter and had plates generating electrostatic fields to augment flight under atmospheric conditions..I'm sure even in 'space' encountering pockets of gasses would require such a need. You take 'dedication' to the next level. 😎👌
Thanks!
this is FANtastic...geek on my friend
thx mate!
My wife would shoot me if I did something like that.
Not recommended unless your wife is fully on board - I picked a good one 😊
This project is completed or is stopped, I would like to have a friend who creates beautiful works of art like that Viper, my congratulations to the builder of a beautiful ship
Thanks - project is still in progress, stay tuned
@@projectcolonialviper2094 I would like to have a neighbor or a friend who was like you, I would be on the side helping as I am fascinated by the construction of these beautiful works of art
What kind of engines are you going to use? Solid fuel boosters?
Elon might have a few to spare ??
