@@jfp521 the thing is if you know your deck you don’t have to read it and others that know their deck also don’t so if you just play a lot it will work out. So thanks for listening to my TED talk. lol
@@arwin1794 I see what your saying. But I think the main issue is that it's harder for new players to get into it because not only do they have to read paragraphs to learn their deck first. But in order to even attempt to not get smoked first turn by an opponent, they have to read/listen to/try to understand essays on other card effects too and it will kill their enjoyment.
Tournament was so accurate, I thought it would be filled with people saying anime like lines but instead we got people that try to find any way to get you disqualified
Someone 2334 first game ever played in tournament in mtg the guy tried to get me disqualified because I didn’t know one rule the guy quoted and I said “oh really I didn’t know that”. I was also 14 at the time, he called a judge over and asked for me to be taken out the tournament and the judge just said maybe practice more before playing in a tournament. Never played again haha
ReaperEN If that was just a LGS tournament I can’t even understand that level rules sharking, nor a judge talking like that about an LGS. @UNTRIABLE GAMING Yeah, not carrying all that much spare change around ;) Really a shame that simply cause a card is old does rarely mean its worth much.

Exactly what I did when I started playing master duels. "I'm going to play the monarch deck that I liked" "Oh wait, there are mega monarch now? Cool, i'll add those" I ended up playing only caius, testhalos and the new ones 😂 not even mobius stood a chance to stay in the deck
Expectation: Third turn in, opponent studies his monster and says, "So my first monster's effect, I will sacrifice my other monster and that destroys your monster. With that, I'll go into battle phase and attack you directly for 1700 life points." Reality: First turn, *complete and utter silence* as instantly, cards are put down, monsters are moved, hand is discarded, and two minutes later, opponent says, "And that's game. I win."

Maybe i cant talk as i can only play LotD but gimmicks or decks centered around one type are fun to me. I hate dealing with meta as it just saps the fun and challenge out. Just recently found Shiranui cards and they can combo well without being too op. And BEWD is so fun to summon.

I'd love to play it again but seeing how convoluted it's become just kills my motivation having to read every single paragraph
To be honest, I work around the paragraphs thing by just looking for key words, like "deck" or "hand" or "destroy", most importantly "once", "if/when" for timing characteristics, stuff like that
Nobody: "let's play a nice fair game of yugioh!" Everyone: mills half their deck, brings out five monsters all with negate effects and ungodly attack power on turn one.
That's what power creep does to a game. Konami should REALLY think about playtesting their shit, because at this rate, Duels will be "I go first. Game 2?" .

The learning to play part is so true. I recently got back to playing on dueling nexus. Had some fun, built a fun deck and had even matches with friends. Then I faced randoms and learned the horror that I link monsters or whatever. The dude had like a three minute turn
It took me forever to learn how to even summon the links. And this was when I first got into yugioh. (I only read enough of the rule book to know the basics, tho) but I’m still an adequate duelist
In my experience (I only play online), you’re quite lucky if your opponent has a 3 minute turn, and it’s much worse in games like Master Duel only because of lag. I once sat for 20 minutes waiting for this guy to get through one turn, and he only played like 13 cards
Should make an old school yugioh (speed duel doesn’t count) where it doesn’t go past yugioh GX. Synchros and xyz ain’t that bad but the pendulum and link sh!t can leave
I feel like they made those rules for people who really couldn't play .. c'mon several high level monsters summoned at the same time with no sacrifice is bs
@@xxxmetalslugga5349 I dont think he meant that far back just eliminate all the ridiculous nonsense we have now although it was inevitable that yugioh has gotten to this point I mean you'd be lucky to make it past the fourth turn without your opponent taking like 5-10 min setting up his/her entire field making it impossible to do anything when literally any move you make will cause a flood of bullshit to annihilate you with little effort
@@johnathanalexander7996 I play old school on my pc, much more entertaining when you have the time to process wtf is going on. It's not about making the card complex, it's about being able to form complex strategies with simple effects. Also I'd like the return to the focus on imaginative looking monsters, too many anime girls and robots, too many humanoids.
So for 3:15 Synchro summoning is reserved for the cards with the white border that go into your extra deck and are labeled as SYNCHRO in the card text. You need a tuner type monster (literally a monster that specifies it's a TUNER in the card text) and a non tuner monster, which is any monster. The levels of those 2 (or more at times) have to add up to the level of the synchro monster you wanna summon. So stardust dragon that's a level 8 can be summoned with a level 4 tuner and a level 4 non tuner, or a level 1 tuner and a level 7 non tuner, you get the point. Xyz summoning is reserved for the cards with the black border that go into your extra deck and they also specify themselves as XYZ in the card text. These need 2 or more monsters of the same level to be summoned, so 2 level 4s or 3 level 3s etc. The monsters you use for the xyz summon go UNDER the xyz monster that comes from the extra deck to the field, and can be used as materials (or tributes in a way) for the xyz monster to activate some effect. You basically activate an effect at a cost of sending an inactive monster to the graveyard. Pendulum summoning involves both your hand and the extra deck. It can be done by getting 2 cards that form a pendulum scale, which is a range whose bounds are indicated by the numbers on the cards. You put them face up in the spell/trap zone (or pendulum zone if you're from 2017) to form the scale, and then you can summon multiple monsters from your hand or FACE UP from the extra deck whose levels are within the scale. So with a scale of 1 to 8 you can summon monsters from levels 2 to 7, with a scale of 3 to 6 you can summon level 4 and 5. Pendulum monsters actually go face up in the extra deck if they're destroyed by battle, otherwise they go to the graveyard, so you can resummon them if you want afterwards, given your opponent destroyed them by battle. Pendulums can also be combined with monsters of the same levels for xyz summons, or also with involving tuners for synchros, and that's what makes them actually really fun to use, you can get really creative with them. Link monsters can be summoned from the extra deck by tributing the number of effect monsters the link monster indicates, and those are summoned in the extra monster zone where they have to point to effect monsters equal to the link rating listed on the bottom right of the card. Depending on the arrows on the card, they can also be summoned in the main monster zone, with your other monsters, so long as they have monsters where the arrows are pointing. They don't have a defense position, only attack. So, a link 2 monster with an arrow pointing the the left and another one to the right needs to be summoned in between 2 effect monsters. Apart from that they're more or less like effect monsters themselves.
Nah gotta correct you on the Pendulum cards chief. It's not just battle that let's them go to the extra deck. If it's from your hand those cards will go the graveyard (discard etc.). But Pendulum cards (on the field,S/Ts) used for tribute, link, synchro, fusion will always go to the Extra deck face up. If a fusion materials is from the hand it's going to the GY. If they're the materials for an XYZ they'll be sent in the GY too when that xyz sends materials later. The pendulum scales you used when destroyed will also go to the Extra deck face up too. (edit 3)Unless those got their activations negated by Solemn traps.
@@FrankToastySo if the Pendulum monster's activation of effect is negated, they will go to GY, and if the effect itself is negated, they will go face-up to the Extra Deck? And is this only when they are scales (i.e. Spell/trap), or if they are currently a monster on the field too?
I totally feel like that guy when trying to learn all this new rules of Yugioh, I don't like the new stuff, every card has a paragraph to read, and all these new rules, I miss the simplicity of the old Yugioh.
@@goblintacos88 also if you want to learn yugioh you can always go on dueling nexus and we can duel some time. I play it here and there and it's quite fun
fujilor107 yea, I stop playing after they introduced those other features, I was ok until those white synchro cards those were ok to learn just like fusion or ritual just a bit bit harder, until there but those other new modes killed my joy to play yugioh I like playing like the old times with 8k life points and a deck of 40-50 cards and make it long think wonder how many turns it gonna take, I loved playing those games where it took more than 20 turns to win lol those were fun
@@haazeyy-6067 i like all features except link monsters , why the fuck did they maked such a boring type of card , pendulums were fun and actually had something really interesting , just my opinion.
@@rorymaddock7468 no no I used different sellers, I couldn't find the same with all the cards I need. For a complete deck + extra deck + side deck it's not that much
1:58 I never build my decks based on other people's decks I build based on how I want it to be. Every person at my locals that plays "meta" decks gets so upset when banlists come out because their cards get hit but ban lists have pretty much never touched my best deck(gravekeepers) apart from the occasional errata.

@@skream2018 The difference is, ANY PENDULUM deck can do this. This resulted in arguably the strongest deck in the game back when Pendulums were in full power named "PePe." SO true about the deck building! Ever since I picked YugiOh back up and started playing LOTD I realized how people literally just copy and paste from others. It’s pretty annoying to me. I didn’t think about that until I started playing online. I was getting whooped by people pulling off these monstrous turns and it didn’t make sense how EVERYONE’S decks were so perfectly made. Oh this is just too damn freaky. I recently decided to pick up Yu-Gi-Oh again since I stopped playing way back in 2008 when Synchro Summoning was introduced. And in just one month alone I went through all these expectation vs reality scenarios that was shown.
Expectation : Konami is so nice giving archetypes legacy support. I am sure that I won't have to wait that long for New Volcanic support to arrive... Reality: The Year is 3020. Dark Scorpion has finally received support in the latest Legendary Duelist 879 set : "The Filler Characters of Destiny". Volcanics are now officially on the last place on the Support list". The Ghost of Rank10YGO a.k.a. Rata is still haunting the places of local and Regional tournaments, for he cannot find peace until he makes a "Support Report" video on every archetype that he featured on his channel. Nedless to say, he still curses himself for ever making that Volcanic Archetype Archive video in the first place. Farfa has continued his existance as a Shitpost Bot on Yugioh Discord servers, where he randomly banishes every new member for no apparent reason whatsoever. Local archeologists have finally found the Grave of MegaCapitalG. They are saying that his grave was filled with Lunalight cards and fanmade posters, as well as unedited videos of thousends of YgoPro Duels that he didn't finished to edit. In the "Watch Replay" section of YgoPro, it was determined that he was struck by a copy of Lightning Storm on the second turn after he set 5 cards in his Spell/Trap zone. Duo to the video being corrupted, the Forensics team couldn't determine what Deck he played at the time, but considering on what the current meta at that time was focused on, and that many duels would already end during the beginning Dice Roll; we could only assume that CapG was testing a new version of Traptrix FTK that he designed in top secrecy. The legacy of Team APS continues to live on in the next generations, where their descendant have just defended the World against evil Aliens by beating them in a Children's card game, after which all sides went on a midninght release at a local Walmart to celebrate the release of the new main set "Overlords from another Dimension" that featured new Alien support, which would finally make Snake Rain busted. And Payne 96 has frozen himself inside a specilized facility, awaiting his resurrection, while an automated Robot version of Galatea that runs on solar power energy still reports the current Day Countdown : " Day 245917 of waiting for new Volcanic support to arrive.
Explanation 'how to play' in reality, continuation: When you activate a card effect, most of the times you can chain on it, unless it states that "no effects can be activated in response to this", this is unnoficially known as spell speed 4, when you chain, the chain order is usually executes backwards so a chain trap + spell + monster, usualy would go on this order, monster + spell + trap. When an effect is chained on another, you have to consider the spell speed of the effect, lower tiers cannot (respond) chain to higher tiers i.e. a spell speed 2, gets chain either with a spell speed 2 or a spell speed 3, the chain order is with a sp3 answer would be sp2 > sp3, but chain are solved backwards, so the effects are actually sp3 -> sp2, which means the effect order is 'sp3 then sp2'. Also consider that usualy spell speed 1 cannot answer spell speed 1, but it is possible if a external factor validates the condition to both at same time The wording of the effect is also important, if the card is writen with an IF effect, the effect can be activated at anypoint after the condition is met. Else the effect is a WHEN, the effect has to trigger in the moment the condition is met, so if there is already a chain occupaing that moment, the effect will miss timming (a.k.a not work) Also, when you are going to negate a effect, for example a monster that can negate a targeting effect, the negation will only work if the last effect on the chain of effects is the effect you want to negate. That means you can protect your effect by doing a chain (my important effect + the protector effect) But how do you know which spell speed are which cards? Well, usually normal spells are spell speed 1, monster effects & quick play spells & traps are spell speed 2, and counter traps are spell speed 3 To finish, the so called spell speed 4, cannot answer to spell speed 3. Reason is sp4 is not an oficial name. i.e you can not answer a counter trap with a super poly. TL;DR To conclude, play duel links. All you ever need to know (casualy) is that only counter traps chain counter traps, and the chain protection. -I'm sligtly drunk prob made mistakes, also idk yugioh-

This was HILARIOUS! (Yes I know I am VERY late watching this). I can say, though, that my tournament experiences were like the "expected," and not the "reality" except in my first Regional for Pokemon VGC where I played a former world champion and trounced him (I mean it wasn't even close, I predicted correctly and even double-missed a 90% accurate attack) and he told me I was just trash and lucky and should just forfeit to him because he was better. Yeah, but even though the "It's called the fusion deck" crowd hate those, they are not that hard to understand. Synchro is basically fusion that uses levels instead of the monster types themselves, and xyz still had a fusion-like base, in spite of the attached gimmick. Pendulum was really the first "wtf is this sh!t?" moment.
@@DrewPicklesTheDark yeah I stopped after synchro, I got to try XYZ and it was simple to understand, but pendulums and links were deal breakers. I had no idea.
yugioh player at heart, now anyways back to summoning extra deck monsters, first we got synchro which you have to get monsters that have levels that equal the synchro monster's level and then you summon it, now xyz is where you use multiple monsters to the xyz card's specifications and then you overlay them, now pendulum monsters are where you put two of them on either side of the spell/trap zones, they used to have their own zones but they changed that anyways when you get two pendulum monsters you can summon monsters from your hand that's level is in between the level of the pendulum monsters number

So for 3:15
Synchro summoning is reserved for the cards with the white border that go into your extra deck and are labeled as SYNCHRO in the card text.
Apart from that they're more or less like effect monsters themselves.
yeah, i stopped playing a while back, none of what you just said makes any sense to me, and I'm glad i stopped playing
I have a headache reading this, but I much appreciate the effort.
Sweet Jesus
@@FrankToastySo if the Pendulum monster's activation of effect is negated, they will go to GY, and if the effect itself is negated, they will go face-up to the Extra Deck? And is this only when they are scales (i.e. Spell/trap), or if they are currently a monster on the field too?

fujilor107 yea, I stop playing after they introduced those other features, I was ok until those white synchro cards those were ok to learn just like fusion or ritual just a bit bit harder, until there but those other new modes killed my joy to play yugioh I like playing like the old times with 8k life points and a deck of 40-50 cards and make it long think wonder how many turns it gonna take, I loved playing those games where it took more than 20 turns to win lol those were fun

SO true about the deck building! Started watching building videos and saw how damn near everyone was using similar crap and just passing it on. There was no chance everyone was that much of a mastermind when building decks.

Its actually called 3 turn kill as the second turn you can barely even summon or activate anything cause the opponents entire deck negates everything. Then you end your turn the opponent kills you so fast
"I got cash"
"Maybe we could talk"
This has been my experience with Yugioh since 2001 😂😂
Oh this is just too damn freaky. I recently decided to pick up Yu-Gi-Oh again since I stopped playing way back in 2008 when Synchro Summoning was introduced. And in just one month alone I went through all these expectation vs reality scenarios that was shown.
This is single handily the most relatable video I have seen in like five years
Expectation : Konami is so nice giving archetypes legacy support.
OMG Payne! How has this not received a thousand likes by now?? And a better question, why don't you make content?!! Bro, this stuff is gold!

Explanation 'how to play' in reality, continuation: When you activate a card effect, most of the times you can chain on it, unless it states that "no effects can be activated in response to this", this is unnoficially known as spell speed 4,
when you chain, the chain order is usually executes backwards so a chain trap + spell + monster, usualy would go on this order, monster + spell + trap.
Also consider that usualy spell speed 1 cannot answer spell speed 1, but it is possible if a external factor validates the condition to both at same time
The wording of the effect is also important, if the card is writen with an IF effect, the effect can be activated at anypoint after the condition is met. Else the effect is a WHEN, the effect has to trigger in the moment the condition is met, so if there is already a chain occupaing that moment, the effect will miss timming (a.k.a not work)
Also, when you are going to negate a effect, for example a monster that can negate a targeting effect, the negation will only work if the last effect on the chain of effects is the effect you want to negate. That means you can protect your effect by doing a chain (my important effect + the protector effect)
But how do you know which spell speed are which cards? Well, usually normal spells are spell speed 1, monster effects & quick play spells & traps are spell speed 2, and counter traps are spell speed 3
To finish, the so called spell speed 4, cannot answer to spell speed 3. Reason is sp4 is not an oficial name. i.e you can not answer a counter trap with a super poly.
TL;DR To conclude, play duel links. All you ever need to know (casualy) is that only counter traps chain counter traps, and the chain protection.

I started playing right when the game came out and all these expectations were pretty much true. Now the game has become so convoluted and competitive, its not worth playing anymore. I just play the video games for fun now.
I know, not Yugioh, but that was my biggest reality check.

I think my largest Yu-Gi-Oh Wake Up Call was when I started to go to card shops to play and would get OTK'd by Meta decks. I personally like to do challenges such as having a non-YGO player make me a deck or just to shuffle random cards I have and see what's playable. When push comes to shove and I just wanna win, I don't do it cheaply.
Lmao I remember playing in local tournaments and every time there was conflict with anyone people would scream, "JUDGE" and the pro player would come over and help us out. Except one time the shop owner got pissed and we nearly got kicked out cause we were practically yelling for a judge during the elemental dragons era.
I think I'm gonna play yugioh again with my cyber dragons last year they where good and cheap plus my favorit archetype so I think I will continue to use this deck

"I'm just going to play duel links" is so funny 'cause xyz and synchro are in the game
Yeah, but even though the "It's called the fusion deck" crowd hate those, they are not that hard to understand. yugioh player at heart, now anyways back to summoning extra deck monsters, first we got synchro which you have to get monsters that have levels that equal the synchro monster's level and then you summon it, now xyz is where you use multiple monsters to the xyz card's specifications and then you overlay them, now pendulum monsters are where you put two of them on either side of the spell/trap zones, they used to have their own zones but they changed that anyways when you get two pendulum monsters you can summon monsters from your hand that's level is in between the level of the pendulum monsters number
