I think a cool way to continue this series is that you can still use all the cards you pulled from the previous sets. That way your decks slowly develop and grow. Also this way we could see the return of Paul’s blue eyes when he wins the next duel!
Can you really set a field spell like that to destroy your old field spell? Lol. Also, that Trap Hole on the Blue Eyes White Dragon hit me hard in the soul! 😢
24:15 Tripwire Beast is a Thunder monster, meaning it also got the field bonus from Umi and they should have crashed. HIGHLY doubt it would have changed the outcome of the duel if they actually did, but still felt it had to be pointed out
Yeah with the later turn draws, Alec just would have potentially lost 1000-2000 more life points. He still would have had the board presence to finish off the game either way
Also his bird that was a beast that should've gained from the forest. It's like, Rare Hunter purposely ignored his field spell on Pegasuss monsters, but made sure his monsters got the boost. LOL
It actually feels good to watch a couple of duelists exchange blows instead of spending 5 minutes per turn filing their taxes attempting to special summon an entire field of effect-negating monsters to OTK.

A lot of people don't like modern yugioh because it's over in 3-4 turns of playing solitare, but 5ds has a lot of back and forth, decent combo decks and you can still have very solid 20-30 turn duels without having to deal with handtraps or a lot of the stuff that makes modern yugioh unfun. As long and drawn out as some of these cavemen Yugioh games can get, I do enjoy the fact that these cards that we normally consider worthless nowadays actually impact the duel. Reaper of the Cards forcing Trap Hole, letting Tri-Horned Dragon get on the field safely, meager 200 ATK/DEF boosts making the difference between losing the duel right there, and getting another turn. It's fun to see these normally overlooked cards get a chance to shine, even if it does make the duel last two eternities. 😄

So. Yeah. I guess Pegasus didnt release cards. This was so much fun! I love hearing you guys slip into, uh, Yu-Gi-Oh character personas. And also, I love when you guys narrate every move because it lets me *listen* to the video while working.
This series is excellent, as a returning player it's great to see how the meta evolves over the years. Would be great if you guys can play with the Master Rules at the time though, i.e. only one Field Spell at a time.
Oh yeah I had forgotten that one. Well, it's a simple mistake a lot of us made before we ever played by tourney rules so not really that big of a deal.
Very enjoyable to watch. The game can be turn based without feeling mundane, hence the fun banter. This is the true point of playing a game with friends. Dope
It's series like these that gravitates me to this channel. Modern Yu Gi Oh is so fast paced and full of interruptions, duelists seem to forget to actually enjoy the duel.
Aaaah the Battle City nostalgia. 😌 Can't wait to watch this later and to see where this series goes. 👀You guys always do creative fun stuff with YGO. 😏 And I love the old AND new YGO. :) Also happy for Larry in the Hole S2 haha.
@Paradoxical enigma ah, yes, I summon a big guy, then you summon a bigger guy, then I summon a bigger guy, then you win because you drew a broken S/T and got insane advantage. Such an exiting back and forth with so many decisions for players to make. I have no clue how anyone can enjoy this beyond novelty factor. Also using casual format for "old" yugioh, but competitive for the "modern" one is disingenuous. Either compare their competitive sides (both suck, but old sucks way more), or focus on casual play (modern wins by a landslide, due to variety of stuff you can play).
@@kindlingking Ah yes, cause modern yugiohs so much better interaction wise. I play card A, you play hand trap X. I respond with card B, you respond with op negate Y. I attemp to salvage my turn with card C, you finish with broken card Z. Why do you people continue to play and whine about things you clearly don't enjoy? Do you know why EDH is the most popular MtG format for casuals specifically? Because it's entirely decentralised and it's power level varies from one player group to another, depending on what that group in particular enjoys.

Great new series. My only ideas is to do best out of 3's to win the card (i love these simple old duels). And maybe both can bring 5-10 cards from the previous deck to the next episode. I am looking forward to Metal raiders next!

The first episode of this series was awesome even the way by seeing how we all started playing the game it re lit a fire for me with this game. Watching this brought all the memories back cant wait for the next episode.
It would be cool if you could put up to 10 cards from your previous packs in your following decks. Kinda like throughout this series your deck is evolving like Yugi’s did throughout the show. Great video either way!
I do like this because I can actually follow what’s happening without too much difficulty, but I do understand how slow it is compared. Thanks for this guys! Been watching your videos every day for the last couple weeks and keep finding fun videos to watch!
Thank you guys SOOO much! I look forward to seeing more Rare Hunter Episodes to come! I love seeing nice and balanced duel monsters matches! (The new age of dueling . . . It’s just not true duel monsters.) Thank you guys so much for making this content!
Excited to see the series! We play something somewhat close to this called League in MTG with friends, each week you get an infusion of new cards and you both agree to trade certain cards after a win/loss. Some weeks its a Pre-constructed Deck that everyone gets, but most of the time its packs!
I think when a lot of people say they miss old school YGO it’s not usually for this particular era, though I’m sure some still miss this. I think it’s usually for stuff closer to the GX era where it was faster than this for sure, but not a snail’s pace like this is.
Definitely enjoyed watching this! Super nostalgic and can’t wait for the other duels from the other sets, i can only see this getting more challenging the more into the meta you guys go. Maybe add best 2 of 3? Also get the other fellas into this series as well. Great video!
In case this is a progression style series: pls add 3 polymerization to both players cardpool by default. It makes duels and pulls more exciting if fusion cards arent dead right from the start. Imagine a Twin-Head Thunder Dragon in Episode 2, that would be hype
This series is epic just to think about how later they get into packs old and new would be cool to see and what decks they come up with and even the pulls EPIC
Gotta love that, even in LoB, we've got a mistake from not reading a card. Yu-Gi-Oh players never reading isn't due to the long modern texts. It's in our *blood*!
10:48 well to me this is normal Yugioh :D and the first video i lot interested in you guys Chanel was Kaiba deck vs yugioh oldest decks :D it was most fun. Reminds me when i started this game playing game, got my 3 blue eyes i played with and with 3 trap monster 3 man eater bug backed by 3 faerie box :D as base and i did good in tournaments, when those ware gate :D i like your Chanel because you guys play old yugioh and its fun to watch, to me everyone going of first turn or die is just both horrifying and amazing but only to watch it feel like if i ware to play my on "gameboy emulator" "no restriction mode" Exodai deck the win in first turn, explanation why, Deck list 3 pot of greed, 3 Grace, 3 sungun, 3 witch of B,, 1 set Exodia 1 each+1head, 3 dark hole, 3 thunder crush(kill my minions spell) 3 painful choice, 3 monster reborn, 3 P. burial. As much is fun to puzzle a 1st turn win there is no game in that. To me the fun is a chess like slow burn "will i draw and able to play my big boy" bringing out the big boy in turn 4 or so and win like 5*10 turns in bloody combat beat-down than fun and more fun to watch. :D you guys remind me why i loved yugiog back in the day so its both nostalgia both fun.
See now this is the Yugioh I love and remember, this brought back nostalgia and made me want to get back into dueling, please keep up these great videos you guys! I subscribed!
I loved everything about this video. I'm a new player who just got into duel links, and seeing a simple, easy to understand video like this is amazing. Great editing too!!
I have one suggestion, I really hope you get to read my comment. So yeah, I would like for the series to actually be a continuation and not just single duels. What I mean is that I'd like to see Alec have both dragons next duel, while Paul gets new packs, add them to his existing deck and have a new boss monster. Alec gets no packs, since he won. If Alec wins again, rinse and repeat. If Paul wins, he gets trihorn dragon or the blue eyes (whichever Alec wages at the beginning) and then in the next duel Alec will be the one to get some packs, add them to his deck, yada yada. That way, after a few duels you will actually have decks that were built from packs and from winning/losing the duels. I think it would be nice to see how far you go and which cards end to whom. Also gives a sense of rivalry between you two, which I'd love to see since you have great chemistry. Small edit: yes, that's what we, or at least I, want from YGO. Not 20m long combos leading to OTK, but back and forth attacks, fearing trap holes and using equip spells to boost attack and defense. The duels may feel slow but the tension is much higher than having each player special, xyz, link, pendulum and synchro summon 30 monsters per turn only to end the duel in 2 turns.
hey regular magic player here. Haven't played yugioh since elementary school but this was a nice throwback memory lane for me for the fact that I know many of these cards from that era. Thanks!
Honestly I feel like you are only two sets away from my favorite era of playing YGO. This era of YGO feels more like a fun tabletop game to play with buddies. Lots of chill interaction and surprisingly challenging questions given the balance of the cards.
Maybe put the intro with you and Alec revealing what you're waging right before the duel instead of at the beginning. It raises the suspense of what you guys pulled. Great video!
This was great please make more. I’m curious are guys going to keep the deck from previous episodes and build your deck as the episodes progress? Or build new decks entirely each episode ? I like the idea I seeing your guys decks getting better and better as the series continues. Keep up the great content.
To answer your question that if this is the Yu-Gi-Oh I want, the answer is yes. The OG took careful strategy and precision believe it or not on when to play certain cards. Turns didn't take 20 minutes and the quick-paced back and forth is what made me fall in love with the game in the first place.
I can't wait for episode 2! Are you guys gonna continue to use the decks you've previously built and add new cards to them? That'd be super special awesome!
The whole Team APS should be involved in this series it would be much more exciting. Basically whomever has the most wins against the other members in this series will determine the placement factor for the battle city finals. And if ur opening up other old sets u can boost the power of your the previous deck from the other set as the series progresses while still playing by rare hunter rules
Now this is the yugioh i remember and love. No ten billion combos no different types of summonings save for ritual or fusion. Just monsters slapping each other.
Yes, surprisingly people do want the game where it wasn't just 15 minute turns of people trying to OTK combo off the start. That stuff just isn't fun to me. More power to those who enjoy it, though!
I have so many 1st edition cards from old tins, I used to beg my parents every time we went somewhere as a kid for cards , black luster soldier tin all the Egyptian god decks , old vampire lord decks , and I was a elemental hero nerd and idc still one of the best most fun simple decks out there . Love you bubble man !

@@iam-geoffreytheelite5275 the minority lmao? You mean like how YGO is still growing in every market and making a killing while also having one of the highest grossing media franchise IPs?
The fact that setting a field spell over your own existing field spell was a pivotal move in this duel proves how perfect OG Yu-Gi-Oh was
Ah, this made me remember this duel from yesterday where someone was using an ocg archetype that focuses on columns and field spell activation.
I used his own field spells against him over the course of the duel
This was so much fun! I love hearing you guys slip into, uh, Yu-Gi-Oh character personas. And also, I love when you guys narrate every move because it lets me *listen* to the video while working.
Ya and it's like the anime lol
This series is excellent, as a returning player it's great to see how the meta evolves over the years. Would be great if you guys can play with the Master Rules at the time though, i.e. only one Field Spell at a time.
Oh yeah I had forgotten that one. Well, it's a simple mistake a lot of us made before we ever played by tourney rules so not really that big of a deal.
Can’t you just watch progression series for that?
Absolutely loved the video guys, hope this helps towards the next video!
Very enjoyable to watch. The game can be turn based without feeling mundane, hence the fun banter. This is the true point of playing a game with friends. Dope
Dude these are so informative+instructive to new players. Just by observing your duel, i already have so many questions answered.
We do try to teach a little Yugioh when we play
24:14 Tripwire Beast shouldn’t have lost that battle. He gets the Umi benefit too being a Thunder monster. Would’ve killed both monsters.
Wow I can't believe we still managed to misplay 😯
@@alecfields1153 happens to everyone. Still love y’all’s content. Keep it coming
@@alecfields1153 Accepted gamestate
It's series like these that gravitates me to this channel.
Modern Yu Gi Oh is so fast paced and full of interruptions, duelists seem to forget to actually enjoy the duel.
Aaaah the Battle City nostalgia. 😌 Can't wait to watch this later and to see where this series goes. 👀You guys always do creative fun stuff with YGO. 😏 And I love the old AND new YGO. :) Also happy for Larry in the Hole S2 haha.
Ohhh this makes me think of cimoooo's progression series, but IRL and with a twist. Hope you'll continue this!
I love the old Yugioh duels!!! It’s a lot easier to follow.
Also a lot less exiting and much more bland
I miss this back and forth also not explaining an essays worth of text per card
Now I have no choice but to watch as you proceed to combo for 5 hours straight, having game umpteen times but rather then end it proceed to flex even though I can't respond to any of your plays. Ah yes modern yugioh is superior, no doubt.
@@recruiterforteambasilisk4642 OP NEGATE, BROKEN, COMBO FOR 5 HOURS, UNBALANCED, FLEX
How many more buzzwords do you know? Honestly, your comment sounds wildly specific as if something like this happened to you and you're now extremely salty about it. Just a hunch.
If you can't or don't want to keep up with meta, just play casually ffs. Pick up War Rocks or Tindangles or Noble Knights or Amazoness or any other less powerful archetype and play with friends. Why do you people continue to play and whine about things you clearly don't enjoy? Do you know why EDH is the most popular MtG format for casuals specifically? Because it's entirely decentralised and it's power level varies from one player group to another, depending on what that group in particular enjoys.
enjoyed it a lot, hopefully this series won't get too expensive to produce down the line lol. also caught that G Gundam reference there!
"Is this what you want from Yugioh these days?"
Yes. Back and forths are what make the game fun.
Yes!!!
Agreed. today's game has too many negates. if the whole point of playing is to keep the other person from playing, how is that fun?
@@thecosmicartist3060 its about smartly playing around negates and actually strategize opposed to playing 1 card every turn
@@AirRunnersViper having overpowered cards that can start a 12 minute combo by themselves isn't strategizing, it's just sheer force.
While I agree with you, I personally think the peak of yugioh came a little later. Maybe early Synchro era or smth
18:18 Also the Duelist Kingdom fields were often half and half anyways
Omg this series will be amazing, can't wait for more!!
this was so much more fun than i expected a duel with nearly no effect monsters to be, that blue eyes play was fricking amazing
man, brings me back to my childhood, were you never knew who could win! Please continue. Maybe after LOB only start another tournament, where you can only use cards from other old school booster collections.
Honestly, this brought back a lot of memories of not just the anime, but when my friends and I tried doing something like this. Needless to say, it did not go well. However, we still had fun and I hope we see this continue. Keep up the amazing vids guys! Love it!
Great new series. My only ideas is to do best out of 3's to win the card (i love these simple old duels). And maybe both can bring 5-10 cards from the previous deck to the next episode. I am looking forward to Metal raiders next!
And dont forget the rest of the crew.
This series is about to be nothing but pure 🔥
So excited for it!
4:38 "This hand of mine is burning red! Its loud roar tells me to grasp victory! Here I go! Erupting Burning FINGER!"
26:10 lol Paul
27:34 I never knew you can set a Field spell that way before
aw domon
BEAM SPAM, NU GUNDAM ISN'T JUST FOR SHOW, LET'S GO BARBATOS , UNICORN, I AM GUNDAM, I'LL NEVER GIVE UP FOREVER, MISSION COMPLETE, YALL LIKE JAZZ, KAMILE IS A MAN NAME, AND GUNDAM LAUNCHING
You guys are so awesome for bringing back the old school cards. I grew up with these cards
Paul summoning Blue Eyes only to lose it to hole only to trigger his two pronged attack had me more hype than I'd like to admit.
This isn’t duelist kingdom rules! There is the unspoken rule of Yu-Gi-Oh anime is that you never place a face down monster in defense mode!
I hope this series goes on
For me this is Yu-Gi-Oh at its best. I hope we will see more videos like this. I really enjoyed it.
Lol the second he summoned the blue eyes, Alec used a trap 😆 🤣
Paul trying to get his fellow duelist to go along with the "Pot of Greed" meme will never not be funny to me
What a nice idea for a series. Excited for some episodes 🤘
I keep watching this from start to finish its just so fun watching you guys open the packs and building decks.
The first episode of this series was awesome even the way by seeing how we all started playing the game it re lit a fire for me with this game.
Watching this brought all the memories back cant wait for the next episode.
A progression series using physical cards and where each duelist places their wager at the beginning of the duel is so good.
"Is this what you guys want?"
Me (who is currently replaying through The Eternal Duelist Soul on GBA): "Yes."
"Do you know what this does?"
"WE'VE PLAYED IT TWICE!"
lmao
Do you keep the cards from this week and roll them into the next duel? Would be cool to keep building up a deck with stolen rare cards
Thank you guys SOOO much!
I look forward to seeing more Rare Hunter Episodes to come!
I love seeing nice and balanced duel monsters matches!
(The new age of dueling . . . It’s just not true duel monsters.)
Thank you guys so much for making this content!
The way Paul opens packs is so tilting. Loving the content guys!
Imagine getting tilted by how someone opens a pack.
I'm more of a Magic player myself, but Yugioh was my childhood, so these old school duels definitely hits my nostalgia. Great video guys!
Glad you enjoyed! We've had so much fun playing with these cards again
Wait, sorry... what does the pot of greed do again?
If you play the old rules. Umi have been destroyed since Alec played his fieldspell :D
Gotta love that, even in LoB, we've got a mistake from not reading a card.
Yu-Gi-Oh players never reading isn't due to the long modern texts. It's in our *blood*!
I truly wish I had more friends that were as passionate about this game as I was back then. Love your content guys. 🍻
“Must be nice having flip effect monsters…🙃” 23:39 I can’t breathe 😂😂😂
Super cool idea. Can’t wait to see how this series progresses
10:48 well to me this is normal Yugioh :D and the first video i lot interested in you guys Chanel was Kaiba deck vs yugioh oldest decks :D it was most fun. Reminds me when i started this game playing game, got my 3 blue eyes i played with and with 3 trap monster 3 man eater bug backed by 3 faerie box :D as base and i did good in tournaments, when those ware gate :D
i like your Chanel because you guys play old yugioh and its fun to watch, to me everyone going of first turn or die is just both horrifying and amazing but only to watch it feel like if i ware to play my on "gameboy emulator" "no restriction mode" Exodai deck the win in first turn, explanation why, Deck list 3 pot of greed, 3 Grace, 3 sungun, 3 witch of B,, 1 set Exodia 1 each+1head, 3 dark hole, 3 thunder crush(kill my minions spell) 3 painful choice, 3 monster reborn, 3 P.
Absolutely incredible, I can't wait to see how taking another's rarest card will affect both of you in future duels!
Pot of greed lets you draw 2 cards then forces you to forget what it does
hey regular magic player here.
"So petty." was such a good moment. That Two-Pronged Attack was glorious.
I understand nothing there saying most of the time and i still love watching
Maybe put the intro with you and Alec revealing what you're waging right before the duel instead of at the beginning. It raises the suspense of what you guys pulled. Great video!
I appreciated that "wrong franchise" bit WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI!!!!
This was great please make more. I’m curious are guys going to keep the deck from previous episodes and build your deck as the episodes progress? Or build new decks entirely each episode ? I like the idea I seeing your guys decks getting better and better as the series continues. Keep up the great content.
Pot of greed allows you to send five monsters from your graveyard back into your deck shuffle and then draw two cards
Didn’t know that my new UA-cam fascination would be yugioh content. I love it here
To answer your question that if this is the Yu-Gi-Oh I want, the answer is yes.
As someone who watched The Odd Ones Out's video about "The Dark Crystal" I must argue that Paul's "Mmmmmm!"s are totally necessary.
Now this is the yugioh i remember and love. No ten billion combos no different types of summonings save for ritual or fusion. Just monsters slapping each other.
This a great watch looking forward too more of this brings back fun times playing with the old yu gi oh cards
Really cool video basically a draft progression with a twist.
Yes, surprisingly people do want the game where it wasn't just 15 minute turns of people trying to OTK combo off the start. That stuff just isn't fun to me. More power to those who enjoy it, though!
LOVE old school duels. Great Series Idea.
The sound of booster packs opening sends chills down my spine.
25:55 Ofc I remember this line. Dotodoya doesn't let me forget it 😆
The concept of this video broke many friendships back in my elementary school days.
The best part of this duel had to be learning that Pot of Greed was a spell card that, when played, allows me to draw two cards from my deck.
