Thanks for this man! I've been trying to figure it out for ages. Is there a particular card reader you'd recommend? Can the card that comes with the machine be altered or do I need to get a different one? I'm very new to all this.
No problem happy to help, spread the love etc... I have had my card reader for years so I am not sure, I think there are some folks in this video comments who have bough a reader more recently. I did see some for sale on Amazon. You must remember you need a 3v SmartMedia card. They are still available on Amazon too. I assume you got your machine second hand with the card left in it. You should have no worries over writing it with your own samples if you get a reader. Remember though the magic rules. 32khz sample rate, and have to be named as a 2 digit number. 00 - 99. Hope you get it working, hope you come back and don't forget to subscribe and share the channel around.
Oh blimey, now your asking. Considering how long ago this came out I reckon it has to be fat32. I have a card that I formatted about 15 years ago? and am pretty sure fat32 was the windows standard then. If you check the manual it might give you a clue. I can't remember if there is a format function on the machine ATM.
Hey! Wondering if you used any drivers to read the ES1 files? when I insert the smartmedia card the only file that shows up is a un-openable folder titled 1.ES1. I use a mac so maybe thats just making it extra hard to read something that a non mac laptop could do lol
So the ES1 stores files in 2 ways. Either as .wavs which are numbered sequentially 00.wav - 99.wav or as .ES1 files which are as far as I can tell only readable by the ES1. They are basically snapshots of the state of the machine at the time of saving which include all the wav files the sample sets for patterns and the sequence data.
@@DocBolus oooohh! so if i backup the .ES1 file on my computer/thumbdrive i could, in theory, delete the .ES1 file that's on the smart media card to open up space? (and reupload the file back to the card when I want to work on those projects again) really appreciate the reply! super helpful vid too
@@finewine96 Yep that's how it works. I did have a file of a blanked machine somewhere that I put on a hard drive. I would say though that the memory set of an ES1 is not huge so you may br pushing it to fill up a smart media card. It is good practice to keep multiple backups though (better practise to remember which drive you backed them up to.)
very good evening dear, I am a teacher at a secondary school and I am currently learning to drive this electric smk2 and I have a problem because I see the manual I have read it several times I am already tired and bored that I do not understand it it does not work for me would you be so Kindly send me some small reviews on how to do it. There is undoubtedly a video in which I see it and they explain to me how to use the Audi City program but I still have the doubt because I have it connected to the computer, a base of an instrument that works below and not and it doesn't record directly, it doesn't record in a So I wanted to know, so I'm going to thank you. And first of all, thank you very much for your channel, which is still very interesting and has served me quite well. I send you a hug here from Chile now and thank you very much for everything.
Wow, didn't know anyone from Chile would watch. Let me see if I can help but can we take it a step at a time. It may take longer but I can try and narrow down exactly what you need by asking some questions. Are you trying to sample directly into the machine, or are you trying to load samples from a computer?
I also saw the manual and I am going to send you a part of the page so that you can see where I am, please, maybe I am very lost but I need to see if you could help me. I will appreciate it. Thank you infinitely. Thank you very much.
Yeah, once you have sampled the sound in there are some crazy things you can do with resampling and layering sounds. I also discovered that yiu can get a whole new layer of gateing patterns on the input which can make for some interesting fx on synths running as inputs. I really appreciate the time you have taken to watch my stuff, thank you so much.
Let’s record a sample The ES-1mkII makes it very easy for you to record a sample. Sampled sounds (samples) can be easily assigned to the parts of each pattern. The sampling area of internal memory can hold a maximum of 95 seconds, with up 150 samples (100 monaural, 50 stereo). If the factory preloaded samples are rewritten or erased, they cannot be restored to their original state. If you do not want to lose the factory preloaded samples, purchase a SmartMediaTM card and perform the Save operation (☞p.55) to make a backup. If you run out of memory while sampling, sampling will stop automatically. Before you start sampling, use the Sample mode MEMORY function (☞p.32) to check the remaining amount of sampling time. Here’s how to sample the output of an audio device (e.g., MD or CD). 1. Press the Sample mode key (the key will light).Use the cursor keys [▲][▼] to make the parameter select LED indicate SAMPLE. 2. Connect the audio device that you wish to sample to the audio in jack (AUDIO IN). The jack is a stereo phone jack, but you may also use a monaural phone plug if desired. Use the Global mode AUDIO IN MODE setting to switch between monaural and stereo (☞p.54). 3. In the connection section, set the MIC/LINE gain select switch to the LINE position. 4. Turn on the AUDIO IN THRU key (the key will light) so that you can hear the input sound. 5. Either by adjusting the output level of the external device or by rotating the LEVEL knob, adjust the output level of the connected device so that the peak LED does not light even when the maximum output level is reached.
I'm not sure what you mean, are you asking if you can record the way in which you mute and unmute tracks while jamming on the actual box? Not sure if that is possible.

Hello. I bought an es 1 online with 3 smart cards. The usb is recognized by my mac and I upload the folder of samples but it wont recognize the amount, say its only 1 and wont upload onto the es 1. Things to note: I export these samples from ableton, convert them to 32k 16bit as individual tracks. What am I doing wrong? In fact it seems like all the chips read the same samples like the factory presets. Also is it better to just record live?
Hi I haven't done much reording live with the ES. I think part of the problem might be you are uploading a folder. Try uploading the samples straight onto the card so there is no folder structure and don't forget they need to be named with 2 digit numbers ie... 01.wav to 99.wav Let me know how you get on and subscribe please!
@@shelbylytle2420 It's possible, can you get it to work on anything else? I did a little test and found that the ES does not handle sub folders. The kind of checklist is that the samples are 32khz, named by number from 00 - 99 and that they must be directly on the card. If you look for me on twitter and DM me, I might be able to let you have some files to test that I know work on my machine. Don't forget to share the love I need the subscribers ;-)
A guy showed a great tutorial on how to record anything from anywhere. Mac just does not allow software unless it come directly from their app store and a 2015 mac and a 1999 smart media card will certainly have problems with one another.
