The Akai MPC2000 is about $2000 in Australia. Just picked up the ES1 yesterday for $170. I’m amazed with what it can do. Just need to find a SmartMedia reader so I can load samples.
On the ES-1. If you hold down (not running the sequencer) or set steps at the "AUDIO IN"-sequencer (located and activated in the "PART"-section) and play, you can arm "ROLL" and send in to "EFFECT" plus use "Filter", "LEVEL" and "PAN". "MOTION SEQ(uencer)" works on it too. But don't forget to activate it and or/set mode before recording and preforming. And it's a hundred sampleslots. 00-99. 🙃🙂🙃
I sold my korg volca sample and bought one of these on ebay. Its coming from Japan..? but it has the software, power cord and the memory card. Got it for 250 it has the right amount of wear and tear on it lol. not so much its hideous and not too minty that i feel bad about using it. Thanks for the video bro. Its cool seeing all it can do. That Akai machine looks crazy, it looks like a whole windows 95 pc lmao. Its kinda intimidating to look at lol. I could not vibe well with the volca sample, but absolutely love my volca drum and volca kick. idk its weird, some stuff you love and some stuff you just cant get into..? absolutely love the look of the es1 how 90's it looks. I swear idk what it is but everything made between 1998 and 1999 is just awesome.
How do you like the ES-1 so far? Ya the mpcs are very in depth. Like a very sophisticated cash register. At least looks wise. I wanted to love the Volca Drum soooo bad but the little interface killed me. I like the looks of the drumlogue but after using the MPC Live my GAS and gear lust is gone. And now that I don't have as much of an interest in trying new gear and using a variety of machines I'm taking a deep dive into the Live and I've been spitting out tracks. The workflow is outstanding. And the sound quality is superb. They hit an absolute home run with the Live. Thanks for commenting.
As someone who has owned both over the years I have some fond memories. My first live PA set was done with the og electribe trinity in the early 2000s. That being said the es1 isn't something I'd recommend these days because there's better options now. As far as the mpc 2000 xl goes I will say that it has my favorite overall feel and workflow of any mpc... HOWEVER these days I rock a mpc one because it offers so much more, especially as a brain to a larger hybrid setup with analog gear. Sound quality wise I feel that the es1 has a bit of a sandpapery lofi-ish vibe and the 2000 xl has a sort of metallic sound... it's not warm like a 60 or sterile like a One.
Thanks for making this video. I’ve been on the fence about getting one. I have a Digitakt, Model Samples, and a Sp404 MKii so I really don’t need anything else. I also have the ER-1 & EA-1 and I was thinking about it to complete the series. I do really like a lot about this unit, but the Model Samples kinda out shines it for me. If I could find one between $100 - $150 I might still get it, but once it gets over $200 I shy away. Let me say however I do love the workflow of the ER-1 & EA-1 so I know I would like this too. The EA-1 is regarded at a crappy synth, but it’s got hidden spunk you can’t get from other synths. I like to process it threw FX pedals and then into the Sp404. Let me tell you, at that point it’s not joke. Anyways, I’m starting to ramble again.
I'd say the ES1 redundant for you. It's cool but unless you're a collector I don't see the need. It's an amazing sampler and so accessible price-wise and usability. I don't have one anymore but may again one day. The EA-1 is a beat for sure. It can scream. I don't have any electribes anymore but if/when I do it will likely be an EA1 for the sequencer and the sound. It's very original sounding to me. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@vintagestereos you welcome and thanks. It would be a collection thing if I got it. To have all three would be cool. Plus there might be some really cool workflow going on that I can’t get from my other samplers. The workflow from the other two is like butter. Definitely feel redundant, but the GAS is real lol
@@reazallykhan the EM-1 is wonderful, but I ended up selling them all and buying a TR-8s. That and the Digitakt II are my work horses now. The TR-8s is great because I can send individual outs to FX and sample them into the Digitakt. I do however still appreciate the EM-1 and the blue one with the tube. I forgot the name of it.
Very good video. Have you ever combined the 2 machines, such as: take advantage of the chopping function of the MPC by playing those samples from the ES1 sequencer?
Apart from the cosmetic differences I think it’s exactly the same. You can actually install the mk2 firmware onto the mk1. I can 100% confirm this works after digging mine out and switching the firmware back to mk1 recently.

I bought a Korg ea1 from Japan and I got extra custom charges ….
I bought my ES1 20 plus years ago, brand new when they came out,,i think they were going for 500 USD,,Very much worth the price! I love it!!
Cool video - was just looking at the Korg ES1 online, found a brand new one for a really good deal. Sadly, I just dont need it. Enjoy!
I've also noticed Raising of prices on the 2kxl,I got mine for $200 in Brooklyn about 3 years ago!

You’re forgetting the em1

I miss my es1. I really liked the fx
I think there is way to use the effects on the audio input. I swear I used to use it with send and return
Yes, you can use it as an effects box. I used this in conjunction with an mpc 1000, it was great 🙌
13:40 its not like we can hear ultra sounds lol, It does sound very lo-fi tho. Im thinking very hard about buying one too
I love my ES-1, I have used it on many recordings and releases over the years...
( mine is modded with a sample melt dial)...😜🎧🔊📡👽
What is sample melt dial?
I've seen that mod. I love the idea. Did you do it yourself?
Great comparison! Im getting a ES-1 on ebay and i see the MKII is really close in price. Do you know if theres any significant difference? Thanks
They are 99% the same. Just one effect is different.

Yes i actually did that myself after getting mine. Wonderful to have the delay as an FX.
why buy an old sampler when you could get the digitakt or something else that isn’t 20+ years old?
Two reasons I can think of. Price and workflow. The Elektron workflow just is not my thing.
@@vintagestereos
That is exactly it. Too much modern tech loses the point. And the point is to be immediate and hands on.
