Sephara is for a deck with more one mana creatures. You can't play sephara turn 3 never, you are probably not going to cast her turn 4 with 4 one drops and 8 2 mana creature drops. You would require a good curve and they don't have to kill any of your creatures. You could play sephara turn 5 which is not so powerful and for turn 5 is easy to get a kaya's wrath or anything to clean the board or simply some more expensive removal than shock. I'm playing an uw flyers all in and it is good, but if you don't have a lot of one mana drops better dont play it.
@@MTGGoldfish that's why it is called an all in plan, you get an anthem or mass buff effect and you try to kill your opponent asap, or sephara. It is an ok deck, i was able to get some rank in platinum, nothing spectacular, it is not good against any control decks with mass removal.
People criticize you for keeping 1 land hands but your 1 land keeps are (in my opinion) often correct. What's a lot worse are hands like the one you kept in game 2 against vampires. That was a snap mulligan. The hand just didn't do anything without white mana and you only had 14 sources to draw into out of 53 cards remaining. I pulled up the hypergeometric calculator and the odds of having a white source in the top 5 cards is only about 80% (rounded up from 79.99365784%).
Not that different from the flyers deck I’m messing around with lately. It has a couple of planes walkers though and more one drops. My only problem is I’m so saturated at the 3 mana spot, so much good stuff at that cost.
@@MTGGoldfish I just kinda figured especially in some situations in your matches that if you had Territory instead of a basic, you could've either curved out better or gotten closer to winning the match or game
I love you Seth, but why in the world do you think this deck can compete against Phoenix? Phoenix runs nothing but removal/burn, a million ways to recur that removal and draw more removal and only 8 creatures of import. You have 7 mana removal and chump blockers
@@MTGGoldfish I think the biggest thing is that 8 of your lords aren't creatures. If you take time to get them down first to prevent your creatures from dying,, you'll be too slow to do anything. I think mb gy hate is a nice gotcha in best of 1 but a good phoenix player will adjust to playing without relying heavily on the gy once they see it.
Phoenix isnt getting creatures out until turn 4 almost ever so taking off turns to play anthems isn't unreasonable. Then 4 hard to kill geists, 4 exile removal for late game.. Cutting off graveyard and I think you bring in binding for the drakes. On the other hand, you can just race in some games. Unsummon can help dodge removal as well.. I think spirits should have a decent matchup as well.
Historic will only apear after archery, and would be interesting to try some curious builds between archery and Ixalan/Dominaria, but until them standard should be some what similar to it
@@frankomancer The current meta is the previous meta plus the last set. Historic will be different. Maybe not much, but if core set gave room to more decks, them archery may introduce new tools for them, or even bring new decks. And that's after just 1 set, so it should rank up in differences quite fast.
At this point Historic is literally current Standard, so decks that are good in Standard will likely be good in Historic too. After we get the fall spoilers I'll try to work something up (although I'd guess it will still mostly resemble current Standard for the short term at least).
I feel like when you do a budget video then it should be budget on the platform on which you are playing. This is very budget on paper and MTGO but a normal number of rares for a brew, probably high for most people
Seth @ 34:44 - "OP has gotta be running out of action"
OP: "Hold my beer"
I'm so ready for wildgrowth walker to rotate.
"This deck (Sultai) doesn't have sweepers right?"
I can already hear the Always Sunny music. "Seth walks into Finality/Ritual of Soot"
Mr Blue Sky plays as Seth's face just drains of any happiness. "Oh...oh it does..." *Hey hey, mister blue. We're so pleased to be with you*
"Spirits have been floating around Standard... " I see what you did there 😂
I was channeling my inner tomer.
Why don't you play Gain Lands instead of Gates?
This is a good question.
Tradition at this point lol

Good thing that doesn't happen for non-budget decks :)
MTGGoldfish lol
And 5 seconds
Balanced, as all things should be...
@43:35 "we want our spirits alive" lmao
Could've had hallowed fountains instead of the gates and it would still be budget.
When will you start listing the number of commons/uncommons/rares/mythics for arena?
I agree it would ne nice, but you can see the breakdown if you click on the MTGGoldfish link.
If you look at the decklist or article you can see the breakdown, hopefully they will be on the deck tech too in the not too distant future.
i just bought a $5 code for the mu yanling deck because it comes with 4 spectral sailors and a few Winged Words and I didnt want to waste my wildcards

The all in plan sounds interesting, but I wonder about the games where we don't draw sephara.
@@MTGGoldfish She would probably be better with Lingering Souls or with Green ramp.
And she's insane with Spark Double or Helm of the Host

Thanks!

Hmm, good point.
The Phoenix deck hadn't even drawn any Frys yet. They weren't even close to out of removal.
Deck needs 4 Rally of Wings. Its been a powerhouse in my fliers deck, winning on turn 4 consistently, good as a surprise block too.
It does seem like it could be good. I'll have to give it a shot.
Was unclaimed territory too expensive?
Bording in a card that req 4 flayers in play against the decks with a ton of removal seems not that great.
Yeah, that might have been ambitious.
why not ixalans binding against drakes? if you bind crackles they have no way of winning the game if you draw gravehate the deck only has 2 wincons

Pretty sweet deck
'Hopefully there is not another Lava Coil'... Narrator's voice 'there was another Lava Coil'
There's always another Lava Coil.
Hey Seth how come the card Quasiduplicate was not in the deck because that would have made the deck even better?
Pretty sure it is too expensive (manawise) for the deck
This video made me realize how much I like the face cam
Beard cam*
Any reason not playing Tranquil Cove over the gates?
Not really
I find the deck exciting. Would you play it in paper?
Deck Idea: Jeskai Hero, Kykar, and saheeli deck would be a cool one to show off.
Should've played phantom in the first round game one to keep dungeon a secret for game two
Budget in anything but arena 18 rares
yeah, hardly budget for arena where rares are far more valuable than mythics
Did he ever drew a card with the spectral sailors?
Not too often, but it's really good when it happens.
10:30 Tron-or Guard?
What would be your thoughts on putting in Unclaimed Territory? To clunky with the non-spirits in the 75?
I think a couple copies as a backup dual land could be fine. If you're building on Arena and trying to avoid rares/mythic a full playset could work.
@@MTGGoldfish I just kinda figured especially in some situations in your matches that if you had Territory instead of a basic, you could've either curved out better or gotten closer to winning the match or game
How does this stack up against mono-blue? Also budget and seems more efficient and reliable than a two color deck that does basically the same thing.
Mono blue is a complitly diffrent deck. That deck is a tempo deck with a ton of disraption this is a agro deck aming to smash face hard and fast.
Do u think ur Phoenix is again a good deck with the new coreset ?
It seems playable, although it didn't get many big upgrades (other than some removal spells).
@@MTGGoldfish thank for ur response. I love ur work (the temur free spells and niv mizzet reborn decks all good greedy deck
A lovely budget deck for anything but Arena, getting all those jank rares would be painful.
thanks
You're welcome.
Why no Ugin?
I think that it was the card draw that pushed Izzet over the top for that one match up
They can draw a lot of cards, that's for sure.
@@MTGGoldfish maybe a Narset in the sideboard can help to slow them down for that match up
m 19 and m 2020 are both in standard?
Untill the rotation, yes
Are you gonna do a non-budget version?
Maybe for a stream (there's a list in the article though in the meantime).
I basically run this deck too, but have 2 copies of sephara in the main deck
Do you find you're able to cast Sephara consistently? I figured it'd be hard to keep four creatures on the board against Red where it really matters.
Top deck jadelight ranger into unsummon, feels bad man
MMMMMMMMMMMbudget magic
I would splash red for deafing clarion also why are we not playing sky tether to remove a blocker or threat. Sky blade is to combat control not burn
Then you throw in Shalai for the double indestructible
Cerulean drake!
40:55 should’ve used your mana to draw an extra card with your 1 drop. Didn’t matter but it still made me cringe that you missed that
oh no, you mean flyers with removal beats flyers without removal? how 1990s of you
