I can't even begin to count the number of guests on SNL who are so obviously reading off of the cue cards but Adam Driver doesn't. He brings it 100% like a pro. It's obvious that he takes it seriously and he is well prepared for his skits. He prepares for SNL the same way he would prepare for a multi million dollar movie. Respect.
I agree- total respect to those hosts who actually learn their lines! (btw Adam Driver will get an Oscar one day, you heard it here). But, as someone who has been watching SNL since 1975, I remember the original vibe - It was one where the show was kinda slapped together and it was “whatever happens, happens”- It was *live* and totally unpredictable-which was refreshing because everything on TV up until that point was so polished, so rehearsed (look up “variety shows” or better yet “Lawrence Welk”) . SNL was different- a breath of fresh air, an antithesis to the establishment, the norm. So that is the reason I don’t mind when the host is reading off the cue cards. It reminds me of the original subversive counter-culture spirit of SNL.
Yes agreed! Adam and Pedro are immensely talented that their presentation fits so naturally in sketch comedy. It's truly an alluring combination. Also, pretty awesome that they are both Star Wars actors
The silence in the audience during his soliloquy is deafening. The audience was transfixed. That's what makes this sketch go from a banal, silly thing to pure excellence.
I'm sorry, but this is just a terrible argument. What sounds would you have them make if they weren't "transfixed?" I was bored as shit. If I had been in the audience, would you have had me 'boo' the man? Silence literally says nothing.

@@Extremely_Shawol Never said he wasn’t funny, my friend. He just doesn’t have range. Sometimes that one-note performance really works, and sometimes it’s like, “really? _that_ again…”
What makes this sketch so great is the length of time it took for the punchline to come that turned it all on its head, JAJ's excellent facial expressions, and the mess-up with Kenan as judge proclaiming that the jury had come back a little too early; it's endearing, adds to the sketch and I think only he has the ability to inhabit a character that is able to carry such a situation!
I wish this was on the broadcast. Adam Driver is so good in the closing arguments that I was getting a little emotional, then that crazy twist had me rolling. Exceptional work all around.
Logan Lucky. His prosthetic arm gets vacuumed off during a bank heist. It’s amazing. And he’s hilarious. Oh also he’s a one handed bartender and Adam actually learned to mix drinks only using one hand. Def worth a watch.

Two Cut for Time sketches - thanks! Someone who saw this at dress rehearsal suggested it would never be re-used because Adam was one of the only hosts who could make it work. That is absolutely true. Even with some of the attempts at cuteness (like the dogs at the end) the subject matter is the type of darkness that is so difficult to get right tonally. Adam does a fantastic job. Like the film panel sketch, this also makes good use of the ensemble cast. There's something about Adam that just brings out those old school SNL vibes in a way many hosts of recent years can't. (this was a Buck Henry type sketch) I'm so glad you shared a few more sketches with him for fans to remember.
It's actually about the reaction the dress rehearsal crowd provides. They're not really laughing, especially at the begining (that was way too long for a Sketch comedy in the SNL format. It would have worked for more like UK style entertainment where the skits used to be longer) but yeah, he kicked fucking ass in this sketch regardless
I don't why they cut this and the Actor's sketch. This was one of the most funniest pieces of comedy I ever seen!
