Contrary to this hit piece on Southwest, the Points Guy says "Southwest Airlines has one of the most generous cancellation policies, regardless of the fare type. As long as you cancel at least 10 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure time, there is no fee to cancel your reservation, whether it is a paid fare or one booked on points. While you'll end up with a travel credit for the amount paid if you cancel a paid fare, Southwest won't deduct any fees from that voucher. Also, if you booked using Southwest points, the airline will immediately return them to your account with no fees." This isn't the case with every airline.
I was wondering the same. I once couldn't travel as I was literally hospitalized for a medical emergency and I submitted refund claim with United Airlines. I had attached everything from my doctor's note to the hospital receipts and all I got was a 3 line response that I was not eligible. After 3 hours being on hold, the representative said they've deemed my medical condition wasn't considered to be critical enough to approve a refund. Which means I could have traveled and I chose to not travel, as per the airlines. In southwest I once cancelled just because I decided I'll travel later and I got it as travel credits which I was able to use more than 18 months later. In terms of cancellations and rebooking Southwest is literally a saint in comparison to others.

This! It's so weirdly inaccurate because SWA is actually really great if you're someone whose travel plans frequently change. Also their reps are so nice. If they pictured literally any other airline it would make sense.
@@fridamahalo7989 It's because Southwest is considered to be a budget airline. They probably thought they could also throw in a few jokes about their unconventional policies in there (no assigned seating, cramped seats, low-end food/beverage service).
Southwest is pretty terrible, never had an experience as bad as with any other. In Austin TX their checked bag line wrapped through the entire airport and outside down to the highway. It took six hours of standing to get to a rep. We were told to stay in line to be rebooked and get comps. When we got there there were none left and they told us to call to get a refund. I was with a huge group with different flight times and we had to fight to get reimbursed, some of us got nothing despite being told they would cover our room. They told us that the baggage belt broke so it wasn’t their fault, but other airlines shared the belt and didn’t have lines wrapping outside the building. Basically claimed they weren’t at fault. The booking to get home was another fiasco with one of our tickets actually being standby resulting in another 7 hour day for a domestic flight. The baggage belt outage according to the airport lasted only 10 minutes and airport staff hand carried luggage. They weren’t staffed for the volume and the amount of bags and tried to say they weren’t at fault. I was looking for info on the situation and online while waiting in line and the same thing happened in Austin a few months prior. They have a terrible on time record and poorly managed. Jokes by the staff doesn’t really make up for poor performance
Why are they picking on Southwest? When they are the ones that have offered FREE cancellations AND checked bags for years and changes for like all of their history where is American Delta United and all of the bigger ones have always charged change fees?!
I get that there's more to this episode than wardrobe, so yes, OF COURSE everyone is great and hilarious. But this sweater on JG is fantastic. Love the colour.
Watched the Spectrum skit like 50 times....this is always accurate and funny...Almost ended up in handcuffs after a call with the electric company last week.
Okay, I know I will sound like a bot, but I've actually been constantly shocked by how much joy Southwest has brought into my life. For example, I called them and then hopped in the shower, expecting to wait 50 minutes like other airlines, only to be put on right away with a rep who was willing to help me through the complicated request of changing a passenger on a ticket and wait while I grabbed my towel. The ability to change for free and cancel for a 100% refund up until literally 10 minutes before a flight at the click of a button before a flight is phenomenal. Plus two bags free!? I have lost so much money, time, and years off of my life from the stress of dealing with the other major airlines in the US - from paying for the privilege of having a carry on, to even getting to select a seat, to non-refundable flights, to horrid wait times to reschedule missed legs. I completely respect that folks may have had very different experiences with them, but as someone who flies a couple dozen times a year, Southwest is a dream and is proving that effortless and affordable travel is possible!

I have only started flying South West in 2020 since we can't travel abroad. I actually had position experience, maybe because of the pandemic. I worked at Hudson News during Nov/Dec, i still remember the pilots would stop by to buy snacks, their pilots were very friendly even on busy evening, after many flights.
I'm so confused by this... All the other airlines charge you for all that stuff. I dont work for Southwest or anything (and they screwed me Xmas 2022), along with a ton of others, but they also reimbursed me for my replacement flight AND gave me a $600 travel voucher.... the pick your own seats thing is funny and fair game, but I dont really get the joke here. if you have trouble canceling a flight with Southwest, youre probably struggling with a lot of basic online tasks...
Exactly. I've honestly never had a bad experience with Southwest. It's been the exact opposite in terms of good customer service and flexibility with canceling and changing flights.
