Tbf, these are some pretty common tropes. Doesn't make the game bad, just a tad predictable.
Ngl I like these clishés. It's simple to predict, kinda hard to put into practice, 'cause you don't know where EXACTLY you're gonna have to use it and it leaves a ton of space for devs to create either a masterpiece or another "Man of Medan". "The Quarry" is somewhere between those two. At least for me. :)
Seeing as how the 3 lives thing you can’t get until you’ve already beaten it once, I’m guessing he already played it and beat it.
Rule No. 1 in horror movies: When you see someone or something standing in the woods menacingly, you leave your groups and go in straight alone. Certified horror classic

@@JC_Cali Agreed, this game has the best characters of them all, but Until Dawn isn't too far behind w/ characters like Samantha & Michael tbh. Ngl, even the annoying characters like Emily are still really well written.
Most of the characters from the Dark Pictures Anthology are kinda bland tho (all those games kinda pale in comparison to Until Dawn & The Quarry anyway imo, besides House of Ashes).

Max and Laura are definitely the most healthy out of the relationships in this game, no yelling at each other for stupid things, APOLOGIZING.. listening to each other and comforting each other…

The cop feels like the old man with the flamethrower in Until Dawn. It's misdirection, he is made to look like a creepy villain but genuinely every step of the way everything he did was to help them.
My theory is he shot Max to stop him from turning to a werewolf and he injected Laura to prevent her from going back to Max and getting bitten herself

@@emmiebunny04 you don’t actually see Max get shot do you (I’m only half watching soo could be wrong)? If so, maybe the cop didn’t shoot him but something else that was about to attack him? Kinda like with that scene in Until Dawn where one of the female characters (can’t remember her name) is on a lift that breaks, leading people to believe she’s fallen to her death, but actually she was alive. My rule in games and movies is that if you don’t see them die/the fatal wound/accident, and their body, they’re still alive (haven’t finished the video so if a shot of Max’s definitely dead body turns up later, ignore me lmao)

I actually really appreciate Max's reaction when his gf comes barrelling out of the woods, super scared. He tries to be logical about her fears, in an attempt to calm her down, but also does not try to resist when she insists they have to leave. acknowledging her fears and not escalating them, like.
He's just the perfect boyfriend. Ughhh I love him 🤞

If he were insecure, he would do one of three things depending on his personality: continue shouting, feeling the need to be heard and have his feelings validated, shut down entirely and become unresponsive, or apologize meekly out of fear of the other person's reaction. He didn't do the first two, and the apology was by no means meek, nor is the girlfriend abusive. No, he's not insecure. He realized it wasn't helping either of them for both of them to be upset, apologized so he could also calm her down, and they both became rational as a result.

My guess is that the cop isn’t evil he’s like the dude fighting wendigos in until dawn. He’s trying to protect people from whatever supernatural monsters are at this camp but he comes across as creepy af

Yea I’m so weird with things like games, movies, and oddly? celebrity deaths. All 3 of those things fly by in my mind.
For example, it feels like I was just playing Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube with my brother like 5 years ago. It released in O2. The Hunger Games trilogy was huuuge for me & I loOoOoved the series. And I remember around that same time, Divergent’s series was also huge and I often got them confused even tho I never watch the latter. Feels like that fan girl-like era for me was also just a couple years ago but low n behold…the 1st movie was 10 years ago. Like, h u h ????
Celeb deaths is a whole other ballpark for me. As well as when “celebrities” (I hate the word/lore behind the word celebrity lol) have kids, same premise. For some reason, those specific situations always feel like they JUST happened or were JUST born and are still babies/toddlers, but A) it’s coming up on some 5, 10 year anniversary since their passing and/or B) the kids they “just” had are whole ass teenagers and not toddlers. Lmao. I know that last one is very specific but it’s crazy how my pea brain works with all those instances. (also I hope this all makes sense and makes sense to OP’s original point lol. Like I said:✨pea brain✨)
I think it’s why I have such a hard time letting go and moving on from older games; I still feel like they’re all in their prime and fresh games/movies & that I can still easily access & play them. When, in fact, I’ll probably unfortunately never be able to play all those games I played as a kid like Super Mario Sunshine & Majora’s Mask/Ocarina of Time & Silent Hill or Resi again… which is😅 sadge asfrick. (Even tho Resi 4 is getting it’s remake which is SIIIICK)

this game gives hardd uncanny valley since they all are based off their real actors. like seeing brenda song or even max (still have no idea what i recognize him from) is so off-putting

In horror movies/games, whenever a character is trying to warn the other characters not to do something, why don't they just tell them what the fuck is going on? Telling someone not to do something with no explanation, gives them no reason not to do said thing. Fucking communicating properly would save a lot of lives.
In this situation it seems like he didn’t tell them what was going on because they come back every year and didn’t want to deter that from happening . Seemed that way to me lol, but also stupid to think one person could stop 7 other people from doing what they want lmfao especially without supervision

@@DuelaDent52 If you can’t tell them the full truth, say something that’ll keep them indoors. Anything. Say there’s a killer on the loose. Be creative. But what I said still stands true- if you don’t give them a reason to stay inside, it’s not gonna do a damn thing. It might even encourage them to go outside, because when you tell a bunch of young adults not to do something without reason they’re going to test it out.
Or, tell them the truth, maybe not that he’s related to them but that there are werewolves, so when they hear wolves and shit in the woods they’re more inclined to stay the fuck indoors. If they don’t believe you, then at least you actually did your part instead of just a little “teehee stay inside kids no matter what.” Who cares if they don’t come back next year as long as they’re still alive? I doubt not scaring them away is the priority here.
Just seems to be a theme with games and movies that pisses me off.

I feel so bad for Max. He was a good guy and a good boyfriend. Like when Laura thought she saw someone, he didn’t try to gaslight her into thinking no one was there. He instead tried to calm her down and help see reason within the situation. Let’s do a slow clap for Max.

I feel like he's too nice. He didn't need to apologize for being upset with her that she had no confirmation before they arrived. I wouldn't apologize as a woman if my guy did that and then called me a dick for being upset about it lmao. I'd probably curse him out and expect him to apologize. Laura never gets any redeeming qualities from my perspective. Even when she does a couple nice things, it never seems to stick in her personality.
In general I feel like in movies when:
1. Characters outright call someone creepy = they end up being wrong
2. One characters says someone's creepy and another dismisses it = they first one is right
So in that logic I'm 99% sure the cop is the "good guy".

Ravens are symbols of death, but the reason WHY they're symbols of death is because in the wild, they follow wolves around so that whenever the wolves make a kill they feast on the remains. Haven't watched the other two vids Jack released yet so this might've already been mentioned! But if this game is about werewolves then that means the ravens know the humans are going to die.

Laura and Max are the best couple I've seen in media pretty much ever. They are so supportive of each other and understanding. It actually feels like watching a real, healthy relationship to the point where it doesn't even really feel scripted.

I feel like the phrase "what doesn't kill you will make you stronger" is another hint at werewolves cuz technically if you survive a werewolf attack you get "stronger" since you become one yourself.

Oh yeah. It's 100% werewolves. I don't KNOW, but come on: Silas the Dog Boy, restraint system, a full moon A NIGHT EARLY, the woods-running sequence at the beginning. They could've been a LITTLE more subtle. Or at least taken more time.

@@IANcel Nah why be subtle honestly, they've spent the last 3 games trying to be subtle but it being obvious and mostly not well received anyway. Best thing for them to do is show their hand early but just foreshadow and payoff rather than relying on plot twists which seems to be the case and I'm grateful

I feel the need to point out: "quarry" has two different meanings. One is a place where they extract stone for various use (like construction and crafting). The other, is another term for "prey." So, both the title "The Quarry," and the in game location "Hackett's Quarry," could have double meanings.

I think you were supposed to understand that quote philosophically. Since the one who made this quote is a German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzche. Imagine it like this, you've got enslaved, amputated, and you lose all your teeth and got f**ked 24/7, and one day someone saved you from those nightmare. Either you worked yourself to make your own robotic arm, upgraded yourself, find some way to fix your eating problem, or just crying yourself, doing nothing at the corner. Worked yourself does make you stronger, which means the torture that you have during the time is not enough to kill you, you still have the power and ability to move on and change a lot of things. But if you gave up and become useless all your life after that, not only you failed and defeated, but that also mean the bad experience that you have before DID kill you, mentally and physically. Or, you did it a bit of both, which also means the same thing, the experience didn't kill you enough to be useless, but it did damaged you. Honestly, of course, there's space for arguments for this quote. Feel free to share your opinion.
@@brooktheskeleton3973 I am pretty sure it is humanly impossible to come out of a situation like that without needing years of therapy. I understand where you are coming from, although the wording of being useless and it killing you is way harsh. The reality of situations like this is, what doesnt kill you runs up hella therapy bills is wayy more accurate. Trauma especially childhood trauma, any type of abuse, war trauma sticks with you often for life. For some people this might be helpful idk but I think it can sound hella condescending or like toxic positivity ik I'd definately not like to hear this after something horrible happens. Even if the intentions were okay behind the sentence you're still better of rewording it.

I like that the boyfriend actually did let the girl go look in the woods without following her. Saying "don't go too far" shows concern for her safety, but letting her go without following her shows confidence in her, AND he didn't doubt that she was hearing a person
I'm barely 30 minutes in, but I already find these characters way more likeable than the ones in the previous games. It makes me wanna root more for them to survive

Well Brenda Song is a real person who is quite liked IRL. Im rooting for her even tho she was a hugeeeee asshole as Laura when "helping" to fix the car
okay this *definitely* includes werewolves. The full moon focus, the circus show about a Dog Boy, dog collar for Ian that seems to be a person's, the cop being defensive about the couple arriving a day before, which happens to be full moon, and then the bunker being locked with a person inside that it seems like they were trying to pass the full moon. They must also be the car owner. I am so psyched for Jack and his playthrough
What if mr.h is a werewolf and thats why he had to leave really quickly and was so antsy about getting everyone out before the sun went down? I couldnt tell if his car was the same as the one that max and laura saw.

It seems likely, but what bothers me is: they mention they've already spent two months at the camp and since you get a full moon every month, they must've already had at least one full moon during their stay there.

I hate that the writers took this route. Why not just have the damn van break down for real and find another way (that would be available in ALL potential playthroughs) for someone to discover the clue in the lake?
@@kathrynhoward4196 I actually like the idea that it all happened because a single teenager wanted an extra night with the girl he liked, and made this decision without knowing the outcome would be fatal, He will forever have to live with the guilt, also, if Jacob dies during the playthrough, most times he screams "I'm sorry!". I get your point tho, thats just my opinion.
Well the Hacketts, Silas, and Max & Laura woulda still happened without them..
okay Jacob irks me to no end as well but he is in no way responsible for this mess, the Hackett family is responsible for 100% of this. for all Jacob knew, this camp was super safe, so safe it was a children's camp and they all spent 2 months in it with no issues. yes he is an absolute dickhead for trapping his friends and is exremely selfish for it, but he's not responsible for the werewolf stuff
It’s so amazing how realistic they made the characters and how much they look like their actors, compliments to the artists here

Wild Guess: The creature targets mostly or only men, it went straight to Max even with Laura being way more into the basement and the cop didn't want to Max to get out of the car. The cop was out in the wilds, but they mentioned how he "needed a shower", maybe he covers himself in something to not get noticed.

Considering the whole "she tries to make people into her son" part of the ghost story, yeah seems likely that it would target men more.
Well Jack and the couple at the start do mention the cop having visible blood on his neck. He's most likely wearing the same substance as the hunters just underneath his clothes to make it less visible and still have the effect of warding off the creature. I do think the Cop and the hunters maybe Red Herrings similar to the hunter in until dawn. Where we as the player may suspect them but in reality they're hunting what's actually hunting you. Also you're theory is interesting considering the Ghost Story is about a hag who wants to turn people into her son. It would make sense that she targets the males first. So the question is, are they using Laura's blood because she's technically alive she just got sedated. Or are they using a mysterious substance they emits an odor that the creature dislikes.
I also think that little vile Abi found in the tree was the weird blood cause apparently it smelled really bad
Alr, alr, if the game is about werewolves of some kind, then I don't think the hunters are the werewolves. Because if they were werewolves, then they wouldn't need to cover themselves in this... blood? Liquid? Anywho, I think it's the son of the woman who died in the fire that's the werewolf (if that's the monster we're looking for) and that at least one of the kids will turn into a werwolf as well in a story branch.

"Harbinger" is also the title given to 'leader' of the Companions in Skyrim, a lot of which are werewolves. And this game has a lot to do with werewolves.
That cop isn’t giving me bad vibes. I think they’re trying to make him look creepy on purpose so that we don’t trust him but he seemed to genuinely want the best for that couple. He helped them with the car, directed them to the motel, and urged them not to stop at the campsite. Kind of like the flamethrower guy in Until Dawn.
Not to mention, he's a small town cop. They don't trust anyone they don't know, so naturally come off with a creepy vibe

I have a severe phobia of things near my eyes to the point that I have going to eye doctor because of the test where they blast your pupils with air with a machine about a half inch from your eye. I developed it when I was younger after watching a scary movie that had a woman get needles inserted into her pupils so no it's not just you XD

can we talk about how well written the dialogue is? it’s not over the top or awkward, it feels so natural and then the incredible voice acting on top of that, i'm blown away already- after until dawn my expectations are really high and so far it hasn’t disappointed me the slightest-
To be fair, as Sean pointed out, it is a bit eye rolling and painfully cheesy at times, but, gotta give credit where it's due, besides a few hiccups, the dialogue is well written

It does feel super real, except imo one specific word... When he calls the gps the "normal" map. You can tell a boomer wrote that line. Fucking EVERYBODY knows what a map is. I have NEVER heard someone call a gps map "normal" compared to a paper map. People may not use paper maps for driving and hiking much anymore (for good reason, since gps tracks your position so you always know where you are and your facing relative to the map, something that is FREQUENTLY a problem with paper map navigation), but we still interact with them at airports and bus stations and in videogames and various media. That REALLY took me out of it, but besides that one line, the dialogue is top notch!

I also think the the "What doesnt kill you makes you stronger." hints towards werewolves. In most werewolf lore it takes a scratch or bite to transfer the curse, so if you survive an attack it makes you stronger because you turn. Additionally, that might be why the cop shot Max after he was attacked. To keep him from turning. Just my thoughts.
