The Minn Kota MK 16 bracket can be modified to slide a terrova, ulterra, or power drive trolling motor back to accommodate loading, unloading, or a cover. In this video I show how I modified it. Steal my idea and learn from my mistakes!

Thanks for posting this. I’m getting ready to install a Terrova on my Tracker Pro 170, and I’m going to use your solution.

WOW! Thanks a lot! I have one of those motors coming in tomorrow and I was thinking about the way the bracket just overhangs the front of the boat. How I would be able to do that and not damage my trolling motor? It came to me to get one of those brackets and use it. I went to Bass Pro Shop today and bought that exact bracket. I just took it out of the box and was looking at it to see if it would work and I found that the side screw didn't come where it would just screw into the bottom bracket to stop it by tension and it wasn't going to let my motor slide back far enough. Drilling that extra hole and tapping it is a genius move!! That way, it doesn't have that long overhang that is really a bad design. Minn Kota should really look into another fix for that because it could be damaged on the roller on launching the boat. Of course, I guess they did! With this $59.99 bracket!! KA-CHING!! Thanks for your fix!

    Great minds think alike!
    Same idea...you verified it works.
    Thanks...hopefully its saltwater worthy

Thanks for watching! It is powder coated, so it may be.. I’m far from a salt expert though. Good thing is that’s is not terribly expensive, especially if you can get a few years out of it.

That's a pretty good idea. I was afraid mine was going to hit coming off the trailer as well. If I ever notice it hitting I know exactly how to remedy it. Great video!

Thank you sir! I should have mentioned that I adjusted my roller height, tried backing in to different levels, and basically anything to avoid buying that bracket. No luck though.

I did the same thing to mine for my Ulterra which is wider so the original bolt would not work. So what I did was weld a flat washer to a 3 inch 1/4-20 bolt head. I also attached a swivel lanyard to it so it would not get lost. It works great on our Deck boat. Good job!

Thanks!! Man, I want to learn to weld. I feel like it opens so many DIY doors. If you watch my video about my kayak trailer.. would love to rebuild it in metal.

Thanks! I pondered over it for a while, but the closest product I could find was $150 or more.

Did this for my Terrova on my Tracker. I installed a Drotto Latch on the trailer. Love that thing but the Terrova would get super close on some launches and loads. Striking it is not an issue now with your idea, Thanks

I nearly ripped my off on a steep ramp, so had to find a solution I could afford. Glad it helped!

Great Video. I too am on a lifetime budget and will make anything work for 5-10 dollars ( as long as it's safe) versus spending 2-3 hundred dollars. Who am I kidding, Ill make anything work to save 5 dollars if possible. Again, Great work around!

Haha! It’s safe until it’s not lol. I’ve never had issues with this particular diy especially. In truth I probably spent the savings on tackle.

big queation in rough water how does that one bolt hold up i would be afraid it could snap and there goes two gran in the water unless your power cord holds till you grab it your idea is great its really about the safety of the bracket

I agree that it may not be a safe as a normal mount, but luckily I fish in East Tennessee. We have a few rough days on the lower end of Cherokee and Douglas, but with the high ridges and mountains normally smooth water is around the corner. If I was more technically savvy, I think a pin on each side would be an upgrade, just not sure how to do it.. yet.

Can this be mounted backwards so it slides forward to come out instead of having to slide back? Thank you!

Nathan, I am curious after a few years now if you are still happy with this install? Did you have to put anything on the in-boat side to help stabilize TM from bouncing in rough water or did you just slide it back at dock?

    • @ScruffyCityFishing
      @ScruffyCityFishing  4 місяці тому

So far, so good! I have not slid it back whole in the water.. but do slide it back during towing. Honestly, our lakes here aren’t too rough because of the topography limiting how far winds go without hitting a mountain.

Thanks for watching. With my old GoPro set up I got a ton of background noise. The music was a way to reduce it. New set up is a little better, but not much time to make new content.
