Very cool guys! Thanks for your support and for spending your time on this, must have been tedious work! :) I hope to keep you busy for the next couple of decades ;) ! Best of luck!
Wow, even cooler that you chimed in!!! Pete and Rich have been talking about my favorite bands and now helped me turn my attention to your band Tom. I will definitely dive into Evergrey's discography. Just another example of why Pete's channel is the best ever!
Pete man, if you are reading this..Thank You!!!! Evergrey are a drastically , criminally under rated band. I only discovered them about 4 years ago and it was "Where have these lads been all my life?" They inexplicably yield almost no mainstream coverage- I never happened upon them in the main Rock magazines I buy. Yet, because their entire catalogue incorporates well, everything, theres something for everyone. Be it Alter Bridge sized anthems, to gothic , Paradise Lost style heaviness. If you like the downtuned chug-then yer gonna love the mid-late 00s material. If you like Metallica with a euro goth atmospheric layer, then the early albums will rule for you. Sombre and soaring. Passionate, emotive, and utterly bursting with melody. Stunning band- I would love to see them get the big break the deserve. Many thanks again for this video. I loved it.
All the best bands dont have much or any mainstream coverage. Soen just released Imperial, a masterpiece and i doubt its getting any mainstream attention, its still doing well on charts.
Great ranking! Here is mine: 1. In search of truth 2. Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy 3. Hymns for the broken 4. The inner circle 5. Recreation day 6. The Atlantic 7. The storm within 8. Dark discovery 9. Monday morning apocalypse 10. Torn 11. Glorious Collision
Recreation day was the first album I bought of theirs and really dug it. I was excited to see them touring for it with children of bodom and iced earth, both in their prime. Amazing show!
Pete never ceases to amaze me with his taste, from 70s rock to melodic death metal like Mors princimpium est! What a great review and a awesome metal dad 😂😆 still waiting for ensiferum, Pete will love the folk/symphonic/prog aspects.
Tom Englund is a great singer! I am new to Evergrey but i dig a lot Hymns for The Broken, In Search for Truth and The Storm Within. I will open for more! Thanks Pete and Rich!
I actually needed that one because outside of In Search of Truth, The Inner Circle and Recreation day, I really haven't paid much attention to this band. Inner circle is absolutely gradiose though. I remember buying it an hour before I'd get on the plane to germany for work... I had a ''blind'' listen, because I had not heard it yet, and I was blown away.
I am guilty of not keeping up with Pete videos!! I wasn't too much into the nostalgia stuff. Evergrey, Nightwish, best of power metal, Iced Earth...Love it man! Evergrey, besides a couple of clunkers are a criminally under rated band.
Discovered Evergrey on the Inner Circle album. Hated it at first but now it's my favorite. Those chuggy guitars shouldn't work, but they somehow made it work with their complex prog style. On Torn, they took all the complexity out and I couldn't stand it.
1.) In Search of Truth 2.) Recreation Day 3.) Inner Circle 4.) Solitude Dominance Tragedy 5.) Hymns for the Broken 6.) The Storm Within 7.) The Atlantic 8.) Torn 9.) Glorious Collision 10.) Dark Discovery 11.) Monday Morning Apocalypse
I’m a relative newbie to Evergrey. Love The Atlantic & have been snapping up their back catalogue off the back of that. Monday Morning Apocalypse arrived this week, and not yet unwrapped, but not rushing to hear it now!!😆
Look, you’re in a perfect position to enjoy MMA. It’s those of us who started from the beginning that had issues. It took years, but I enjoy it now. Listen to it before everything else. That way, if you dislike it you’ll know everything else is better, except Torn (maybe).
Monday Morning Apocalypse at number 11? Are you fucking insane Pete? I’d put that at somewhere around 4 or 5! Hell, let me do it now… 1. The Inner Circle 2. Hymns For The Broken 3. The Atlantic 4. Monday Morning Apocalypse 5. Recreation Day 6. In Search Of Truth 7. Escape of the Phoenix 8. A Heartless Portrait 9. The Storm Within 10. Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy 11. Glorious Collision 12. The Dark Discovery 13. Torn
I really use to love EVERGREY mainly their older to middle period. The last album I bought from them was Monday Morning Apocalypse. My all time favorite album from EVERGREY is Recreation Day. I personally believe that was their greatest album. Verygood video Pete.\m/
I have loved Evergrey since the beginning. There mix of goth/power/prog is what makes them unique. Tom's vocal can be overwhelming and heart wrenching. I saw that you mentioned his work with Redemption and I didn't feel it, for me I can only get into Redemption with Ray. But there is another band called Epysode that Tom did the vocals for. The album is called Fantasmagoria, it also features Ida Houlkand of Triosphere, Henning Basse (ex-Firewind,ex-Metallium). That album is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
Evergrey are one of those bands where I love my Top 5, and the rest are kind of just "there" for me. That being said, my list will likely look much different from most people's. 11. Glorious Collision 10. Torn 9. The Storm Within 8. Dark Discovery 7. Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy 6. In Search of Truth 5. Monday Morning Apocalypse 4. Hymns for the Broken 3. Recreation Day 2. The Atlantic 1. The Inner Circle
I have to say that I hear a distinct difference in their albums progression. The early albums have standard tuning guitars, and echos and lush layers of sweeping gothic synths and ice cool keys. The last coupla albums have that deep downtuned riffs, and I dunno, a less "European" feel to them. Aside from the downtuned grooves, I don't hear a "NuMetal" sound. That makes me think of the Linkin Parks and Limp Bizkits, and an album like say, Torn, is so in a different league than those bands. Either way, I loved the discussion here! Its seriously hard for me to pick a best album! I think theres powerful music on all of them, but at a push, I'll say In Search of Truth, and The Atlantic hit the spot right now. That could change tomorrow!
I got into evergrey from hearing one of their songs on a compilation disk (Centauri media I believe?) then I saw them open up fro children of bodom and iced earth and that was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life!
my list 1. Hymns for the broken 2. Escape of the phoenix 3. The storm within 4. A heartless portrait 5. The atlantic 6. In search of the truth 7. Torn 8. Recreation day 9. The dark discovery
1. In search of thruth 2. recreation day 3.Torn 4. inner circle 5. solitude 6. hymns 7. The storm within 8. dark discovery 9. the Atlantic 10. Glorious Collison 11. Monday morning I think torn is high up there for me because I started to listen to it at the perfect time in my life.
Hey guys agree about the middle three being at the bottom. Not sure about my top ones but Hymns For The Broken would be there along with In Search Of Truth, Solitude Dominance and Tragedy and Recreation Day. As regards Tom Englund with Redemption I really like that album although I miss Ray Alder. Yes it reminds me of Evergrey a bit in the vocals obviously but still having the Redemption guitar line up of Nick, Chris Poland and Simone Mularoni of DGM kept it more like Redemption
Another great show Pete! Have you heard the Dirty Shirley album with George Lynch on guitar and Dino Jelusick on vocals. It's an immense mix of Dio, Coverdale, Ray Gillen type vocals and superior songs. Cheers, John from U. K. 👍👍👍
Thumbs up for your shirt, Pete . Savatage is a legendary band. Evergrey is cool band to. King of errors my top song. Tom Englund did a great job in last Redemption album. Greetings from Kosovo to everyone.
I like Evergrey a lot, but my ranking, for what I own, is different. From favorite to least favorite my list reads: 1. In Search of Truth. I'm sorry, but this one edges out Recreation Day. 2. Recreation Day. 3. Inner Circle. 4. Hymns for the Broken 5. Torn 6. Glorious Burden 7. Monday Morning Apocalypse The first two are on my list of essential purchases with the rest following sometime afterwards. The reason I like "In Search of Truth" so much is precisely that uniqueness on the theme. I just wish the line-up was more stable.
Honestly, some songs on other albums such as recreation day or inner circle took time to get into, but from the first time I listen to " isot", I had no skips. A solid album from start to finish.
awesome top 11 list. I *JUST* discovered Evergrey this past month and cant believe how I ever didnt know about them until just now after being into Rock / Prog / Metal for over 30 + years (starting with Rush and Dream Theather) !!! anyways better late than never. Tom is the perfect vocalist for this band. U hate bands that have great chops in music but the singer ruins it and you dont want to listen because of the singer. How again did I miss them? wow my music "to buy" list is growing and my funds availavle are nil so what to do...!!! haha keep it up. BTW curious where you rank the new 2021 Escape of the Phoenix CD that just came out? cheers

I started with recreation day as a bundle up on eBay in 2010. Never heard of them but figured why not. And from there I got inner circle and then in search of thruth. I didn't follow a specific route but more what ever I was able to get my hands on. And I think it worked out well.
Pete....if you are interested in aliens and the paranormal you would love listening to Art Bell ....Midnight in the Desert shows and his annual Halloween shows are AWESOME!!!!!
13. Dark Discovery (mainly because its the one I am most unfamiliar with due to the terrible production and S.D.T is basically just a better produced version of it in my eyes) 12. Monday Morning Apocalypse 11. Torn 10. The Storm Within 9. The Glorious Collision 8. The Atlantic 7. In Search of Truth 6. Escape of the Phoenix 5. Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy 4. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) 3. Hymns for the Broken 2. Recreation Day 1. The Inner Circle
I can't understand your stances of the constant line-up changes. The core members have been the same since... 2003/2004 except for "Glorious Collision" and the departure of Michael Hakansson.
I am still struggling with Tom fronting Redemption. Love both bands a lot but it's so confusing. Tom without guitar on the new Redemption live album is not helping.
The Atlantic (2019) The Storm Within (2016) Hymns For The Broken (2014) Recreation Day (2003) Monday Morning Apocalypse (2006) In Search Of Truth (2001) The Inner Circle (2004) Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy (1999) The Dark Discovery (1998) Glorious Collision (2011) Torn (2008)
@@seaoftranquilityprog I totaly understand you, and respect your opinion. From my view it’s one of their albums that holds some really good stuff and some stuff not so good. I am one of those that like all of their albums. Best regards!
Well, as I stated, the formula works, and they stick to it, which is why I've followed them so closely since the beginning. When they deviated, as they did on MMA, that didn't work for me. Nothing wrong with all the albums sounding similar.
Evergrey used to be one of my favorite bands... then they released "Monday Morning Apocalypse", which was so incomprehensibly awful. I listened to their subsequent albums over the years, but they've never been able to recapture that early magic. Recent material has dropped the nu-metal pretensions, but comes across bland and uninspired. 1. In Search of Truth 2. Dominance Solitude Tragedy 3. Recreation Day (unforgivably bad production and mastering) 4. The Inner Circle 5. The Dark Discovery That is all.
Another newer alien abduction album (very proggy by a brand new band) is The Importance Of Mr Bedlam by The Paradox Twin. Great album. Recreation Day is my favorite Evergrey album and song (my initiation to the band).
