Tom, kan ni inte snälla spela in en studioversion av eran tolkning av Maiden's Wasted Years? Såg er framföra den akustiskt på Sweden Rock för typ 10-12 år sedan och det var ren magi.
Man the part of "Why are you so angry?" lol. I have the same feeling, the people used to think metal is just angry but for me metal is a lot of things, happy, sad, exciting, relaxing and angry as well.
Love this interview! I saw Evergrey on their U.S. tour in 2019 at a small venue. All the guys in the band came out after the show to talk to fans, take pictures, and just hang out. Great group of guys!
I've seen many, many bands playing live. Literally thousands. Evergrey rank right up there as absolutely top tier. No gimmicks. No eleborate stage sets or pyro. Just a band that are mindblowingly good at playing live music. You *have* to go and see them.
Found Evergrey many years ago, bought one album "In Search Of The Truth", I had to get all their albums right away, so I ordered, from Evergrey, and months went by with nothing. I got upset and complained, and sure enough Tom Engund sent me a e-mail back, WOW, and said they are going into reprinting cd's soon, and shortly I received their back catalogue. What a class act.
Met all of evergrey at a show in minneapolis they opened for iced earth, after their set they came out on the floor and watched Children of Bodem, super nice guys!
GREAT INTERVIEW. It must have been so cool to recently discover the band, and before you know it, you are talking to the great man himself!! Im curious mate, about yer thoughts on their other albums you might have since listened to. What did you think? Id love to hear your thoughts on some of their older albums and how they have evolved as a band over time. Their dark, gothic tinged dramatic shades that wove into albums like Solitude..., In search of Truth are amazing. And the riffs that run though other later songs like "Ambassador" and "More than Ever" just NEED to be heard by any metal fan.
Great interview! Thank you. One thing that I also noticed during the interview of Floor with Tom and you mentioned it here - the need of listening to such kind of music instead of happy pop songs or any mainstream music. Specially Evergrey has had cathartic effect on me. Although their music (in general) is not intended to be happy or about happy subjects, to me it gives some hope. Perhaps it comes from the fact that I find myself (and this makes me whole) when I introspect and look within, rather than going out and having parties and this is what I get from Evergrey. Sort of introverting impulse.
Love that tom talks about playing in small arenas. I saw them at a really small party room 2008 in Östersund, north Sweden. Intimate, but still all in rocking! I was on my first date with the father of my child and still have the pick from that show. Amazing evergrey!
I have been a fan of Evergrey ever since they went on tour with Iced Earth in 2004. Tom is one of the most chill musicians ever. I've been friends with him on facebook for the past several years and we've had some great conversations. I have never gotten the chance to meet him in person, but I hope to do so on the next Evergrey tour. I have already preordered the new album on that super sexy vinyl, so I am very excited to listen to it. Great interview Tech! Keep it up!
@@A_Ducky Kinda forgot about that tour I missed it because the location choices and then prices of flights. but it was I.E / COB AND Evergrey. What a lineup.
I remember when I discovered Evergrey in 2004 on the iTunes Radio station , I believe it was called Progradio or something generic like that. But even till this day, I’m still in awe when I listen to them
I remember, back in maybe 94’ or 95’... when Tom used to work at the MUG music store in GBG, I answered an ad to audition to sing for then unknown Evergrey. Tom gave me a tape to listen to, and I wasn’t ”feeling” the Music I heard so I returned the tape and said “it wasn’t for me”. When they “blew up” I noted “huh, he ended up singing himself, cool”. Ironically I LOVE Evergrey now. 🤦🏻😅
MUG sits right next door to the music venue bar ”Sticky Fingers”. Both places are “historical” cornerstones of the Gothenburg scene. If you’re ever in GBG check those out. 🙂
Also. If you just want to go to GBG in your heart for a little sweet 4-minute “vacation” watch and listen to this bittersweet video of Maia Hirasawa’s song “Gothenburg”. You’ll enjoy it, I’m 99% sure: ua-cam.com/video/KG64DmsSQH4/v-deo.html
Really great chill interview with lots of interesting info. Never listened to any of these 3 bands, but I will now. Thanks Tank! Health & happiness to you & yours!! 🤘😎🤘
The new record is amazing , this band continues to just impress me , it’s like a soul force , in my top 3 bands if I had to pick , Godspeed GOD BLESS EVERGREY IN JESUS NAME AMEN 🙏✝️❤️🤩😇
Loved this interview, regarding music and how it could help, I have to say that everytime I am having a bad time music helped me through it. And not a particular song, it seems that the fitting song for the circumstances just finds me. For example when I had a longterm relationship came to an end I did not handle it very good. And after some time „poet and the pendulum“ „found“ me, I knew the song but it helped me emensly. I know what the song is about but for some strange reason, it helped. And now with all this pandemic, it is other music. Without music live is not fun.
I can't imagine how exciting it must be to get such chance to speak with someone whose work you enjoy so much, especially with your intro still so fresh... Going forward, please consider letting your guests speak a bit more? You are clearly informed about them, knowledgeable of their world, and you have an easy, non-fawning conversational style, all of which makes you a great host, who could be mindful of letting the talk ratio be a bit more in the guests' favor? That observation aside, this video is an awesome addition to the series, hope to see many more!
I thoroughly enjoyed that, Tank. Excellent interview all the way around. Tom seems like a very grounded and thoughtful human being. Looking forward to the new album. Keep up the great work!
I had the pleasure of meeting all the members of Evergrey back in 2017, and one couldn't ask for a classier group of guys. It was like talking to old friends.
Love the interview. For Redemption check out Someone Else's Problem (Official Video) with Tom Englund. Also, Bleed Me Dry and The Art of Loss (Official Videos) for Redemption before Tom.
I am so glad that you made that comment about your coworkers saying you are "angry". I get the same comments from my coworkers about listening to "angry music", but they just don't get metal music.
Love that you got Tom on and acknowledged the unique nature of Evergrey's music! Tip: Let the artist talk more, I think Tom ended up sitting there listening to you too much instead of giving his thoughts.
I would not be surprised if you got a deal with some music TV to be their host. You´re likeable, talkative, you ask good questions... The whole package.
Evergrey is in the top 5 metal bands from Gothenburg. But the very best thing with living in Gothenburg is the amount of small metal bands from here. If you are interested in seeing and listening to a very typical local band, watch this band Reenact ua-cam.com/video/1eXuiuM0uxI/v-deo.html . Also this video gives you a correct way of how it looks and feel like living here.
Anneke and Epica's come out then also. I watched him on Floor Finds. I think there was a little baby bump with Floor from In Orbit by Tom. I like Silenyt Skies also.
i still to this day think myspace made a lot of bands who they are just based on being on myspace and how it helped spread bands. need more outlets for bands like they were on myspace. word of mouth is key when pop music and hip hop controls the usa.
Congrats on the interview. Found Evergrey through you and I'm looking forward to the album as well. I know you do not do "pay for play" (and I totally understand and fully respect that) but knowing that the label reached out to you to set up this interview I'm curious if they offered any support other than Tom's time?
I won't get into specifics, and you're right, I don't do paid reactions and stuff like that, but in situations like this, regardless of if labels are ONLY offering the interview, if I feel it's worth it, I'll do it. I will say, Evergrey's label, AFM Records, has been awesome to interact with and talk to about stuff.
Tank! Is it possible that you might be in the wrong line of work? What I mean is the Roadie thingy really what you are supposed to do? You are probably very good at that but as a youtuber you are frickin awesome! You seem so very relaxed and cool with all of it. Very intresting to see your interviews and so entertaining, Like a pro! And if the record labels are starting too contact you for interviews you must be doing something very right. Congratulations on a very nice and open interview! Keep up the good work!
It’s difficult, to say the least. Hahaha I will say, however, some of the touring band members these country artists have are some of the best musicians I’ve ever seen.
@@TankTheTech I'd believe it. One of my favorites, Winger, is made up of former studio musicians/tour members and those guys know to how to play. If you've only heard their older stuff, try checking out their newer stuff.
No offense man, but when I watch an interview, I want to hear the guest speaking more and not you. It's great that you take part in the conversation, but I thought you spoke much more than Tom.
That's cause it's not a traditional interview, it's literally a conversation between two people in the music industry. Alas, I understand your point. Can't please everyone.
@@TankTheTech I still enjoyed the video, just wanted to hear a bit more questions answered by Tom. But I'm sure you will find the perfect balance in the future!
@@TankTheTech I was also thinking about it, but as you say its not a traditional interview. Its not only about the artist, its also about your journey in music and compering your experiences on the road wit the experiences of the artist. So in a way, its more about you, just like then you are doing a reaction video. Since its not only the artist talking, the interview needs to be longer, so the artist gets to talk as much as a normal interview.
There are so many variables with the way that I do this and go into it mentally. 1) I’ve also been in the music industry, so we often share experiences and know exactly the same references we’re talking about. 2) These artists get asked the same questions from media so often that I try and steer away from them. I try and drive the conversation to bring up random thoughts that they may want to get into or extrapolate on. 3) Artists also have scheduling and time constraints. He was on his 8th hour of interviews this day and I didn’t want to keep him too long.
Thanks for the chat brother! A pleasure!

Sounds like the 2004 tour, according to the announcement it would have been Quest, if the internet isn't lying

Good call Simon, that album seems to be overlooked by fans but for me that, Torn and Hymns are the best.
