      Hi,
I have never seen two trains so close together on the same track. What if the first train had a problem could the second train stop in time without hit the back of the first one? Wasn’t the second train going faster than the first train. Where are all the cabooses on the end of trains?

Very neat how when the telephoto zoom is used compressing the distance, then the small subtle changes in the grade appear to be much larger making the rails look uneven and wavey

I like it when you use the radar gun. It would also be great if you could give the car count, especially when there’s locomotive spread throughout the train. I noticed in one of the videos we had two locomotives, the second one was 35 cars back and the last car was number 70 so that was spread about halfway through. But I think it’s fascinating to know how long the really long trains are. Really enjoy your show keep up the good work.

@@prarieborn6458 In a way, they are, at least for the up-and-down parts: this type of exaggerated view due to a telelens would be impossible to reproduce if the track was laid down correctly in my country, we would not allow this type of height deviation at all, not for freight trains and definitely not for passenger trains (higher speeds).

Turkey buzzards, toot salute and containers full of barking seals, and a train meet. Great start! Make it a trifecta why dontcha! I turned in a hot box when I was 14 on a freight on the Milwaukee Road main behind our house. I saw a pinwheel of grinder sparks on a TTX flat with a trailer on it and called the railroad's emergency number and gave my location. The train stopped within minutes but it was way worse than a hot bearing. The bearing had disintegrated and the axle had chewed half way through the side frame. I got to the car about the same time as the front and rear crews and one of them said " our dispatcher said a kid called this in and good thing too, it would have been on the ballast in another mile". I told him I was the kid and he shook my hand and told me thanks. They had to split the train in two on each side of the car and leave the car where it was . A few hours later a self proppelled crane with a flat car came and the crane crew did a truck swap. The next week I got a thank you letter from the railroad which I still have. That was back in the mid '70s when there were no detectors and the rear crew was supposed to keep an eye out but it was on a blind curve so they didn't see it. Absolutely great video, brought back some memories. Thanks!

Back during the seaboard railroad days of the 60's,my grand parents live on the edge of seaboard street in lumberton north Carolina. And the seaboard freight trains would come by daily in the evening .Normally having five to six Sd-45 or mixture of Gp-30 type diesels pulling over a hundred cars of different types.A crew man would come walking out the lead engine stepping off the stairs as the train creeped by eventually stopping the train and separationing the train to go drop off and or pick up new freight cars down the road .The crew member would disconnect the train cars and jump on the back of the boxcar latter with walkie talkies.giving instructions to the engineer .Some times the train took two hours to return to reconnect back to the rest of the train left behind. In the mean time another crew member would come walking from the rear of the part of the train left behind with his walkie talk and wait for the lead part of the train to return. When the lead part of the train was returning you could hear the diesel engines breaking down to a crawl with the guy hanging on the returning lead box car eventually slowing down the train thru rotating a lantern if dark out or by way of his walkie talkie and meeting up with the other guy to reconnect the train. Then one crew man would walk back to the lead engine to accompany the engineer as before. The other crew member who came walking earlier from the rear of the train would stand there as the train proceeded to move and always step up on the stairs of the caboose with his lantern in hand as the train rolled by.Never missing that step.Incredible action. My grand father told me the train tracks were straight from Wilmington all the way to hamlet no curves All that action took place .Before the seaboard ,Atlantic coast line merger or the family lines system, seaboard systems or the now CSX system. The diesel colors of seaboard then was black with the yellow stripe thin red out line stripe. That action happened six evening or afternoons a week,Sunday was the start up friday the train was shorter and never stopped to pickup or dropped off any cars.Saturday was quiet no train action. And if I woke up two o clock in the morning you would catch an empty train heading back in the other direction. Creeping by the house where the last street crossing was then constantly picking up speed you could hear the cars shaking and being yanked had to be doing at least 70mph.Alot of empty log carrying cars. The train mostly consisted of flat cars carrying farm tractors,a lot of timber or log carrying cars ,tank cars, box cars coal carrying cars etc etc.

Some videocamera's have amazing image stabilisation techniques. So far the best I've worked with are the Sony PXW-X70's and Sony HXR-NX3 and 5. The X70's are quite similar to Z90's from the same brand and use the same stabilisation techniques, which in 1920x1080 mode uses sensor cropping in active mode, sensor shifting, tilting and panning and an optical element moving counter to what you do, and in standard mode only uses sensor shift and the optical element.
I have yet to come across a brand that does it even better than that, combined with careful walking it can look pretty good and smooth.
