MLB Blown Calls Leading To Ejections - April 2019

  • Here are all of the plays from April that an umpire got wrong then proceeded to eject the player or manager for arguing the call. Note : There were a few plays that I debated on putting in here, such as Brandon Hyde arguing the sliding rule and Manny Machado being thrown out for tossing his bat in front of a catcher while going down the line. I decided against these plays because to me you could see the umpire's point of view for why the call was made the way it was, these are plays that they blatantly got incorrect.
    Also sorry for the huge gap between videos, with finals, vacation, and working a job again I got very caught up with everything and struggled to have time to find interesting video ideas.
    Huge shout out to MLB Ejection Tracker for compiling a video that contains every ejection from the month, from there I cut out plays that either had the correct call made, or plays involving batters being thrown at. If you want to see every ejection from the month, I highly recommend you check out that channel.

      sss kkkooosss we need this view far more often than it’s shown. When we have a pitch that’s close to the top/bottom of the zone we need a face-on view. When we have a outside/inside pitch we need an overhead view. Yet what we get most of the time is a view from over the pitcher’s shoulder from the outfield, the worst possible view for ALL pitches.

    • @thecaynuck4694

      Ikr, and I feel as if the umpire would have a similar view to that, just lower of course. Regardless, they still make terrible calls.

      @patersonplankrd 4 роки тому +2

      Here's the deal.
      Couple things. First, because the umpire has to position himself on one side of the catcher or the other, it changes his "eye" or perspective. Batters are trained to realize this. Also batters should be paying attention to that umpires stroke zone. Most umpires are consistent the entire game. The players quickly realize this and they prepare for it.
      Second, a good umpire is not going to give a hitter too much leeway on close pitches. These guys are professionals and should be at the plate ready to hit.
      Not be looking for walks.
      That may appear unjust or incorrect to some .
      But this is the way it is. This is baseball.
      Look gang, its way better than it used to be.
      Before MLB started with stationing umpire supervisors at every game , strikes were called based on where the catcher set up.
      For example if the catcher was 6 inches off the plate and the pitcher hit the glove without making the catcher move, those were strikes.
      Gregg Maddux made a living off his impeccable ability to locate his pitches by "hitting the keyhole".
      That guy had the respect of umpires and they gave that leeway. MLB put a stop to this because it was in fact getting pretty ridiculous.
      Now, pitches more than half a ball width off the plate see rarely called strikes.
      Yet still batters are overly patient with greater than 50% of all p5iches thrown , the batter makes no attempt at swinging.
      Yet, strikeouts are way up over say 10 years ago

    1:12 The catcher starts with his glove down, then raises it up to catch the pitch, then keeps moving it up to hold the ball in the strike zone. Instead of holding his glove in the zone somewhere as a target for the pitcher, then having to bring his glove down to catch the pitch and then having to bring it back up into the strike zone.
    A few other catchers did this too in the video. The umps need to get better at watching the pitch and not the ending position of the catcher’s gloves.

    • @ComradeJehannum
      @ComradeJehannum 4 роки тому

      Yup, I agree some of these "professional" umpires need to watch some tape on just how badly they get CONNED by catchers "framing" balls that are WELL OUTSIDE the strike zone and pull them in. But then maybe if umpires set up properly they would see it.

    • @Mark-sj3xb
      @Mark-sj3xb 2 роки тому

      The very fact that framing is an actual factor in calling balls and strikes is an indictment of how bad umpires are. I learned as a hack rec league umpire that you watch the ball as it crosses the plate, not where it lands in the catchers glove.

      The Air Con Isn’t it immediately dead as soon as it hits the batter? The ball was dead before he even finished swinging. Fuck, the bat wasn’t even over home plate. The only reason the bat crossed home plate is because he dropped it because he got popped in the wrist. And bullshit, it doesn’t matter if your in the windup if your swing, or in the middle of it. If you didn’t swing you didn’t swing. If you got a strike called anyway even if you were in your load, you’d have to reverse the 2001 World Series, and get blasted by players and fans alike for being so fucking dumb.

They argued and the ex ump refused to admit he was wrong. After he threw Sam out of his own bar he quietly admitted "Eh, maybe it was a strike, I was going through a divorce that year!". I can see why many of the curves are called strike due to the umpire believing he saw the ball catch the bottom of the strike zone.
