Something I failed to mention in this video is this dog was extremely aggressive towards our middle son and the baby. To the point he even got in my space and growled at the baby while I was holding her.. he got ahold of a chicken and before we took him to the shelter.. he wasn’t chipped but they said he will probably get adopted fast.
I see a lot of really rude comments over a dog… Come on people..

I certainly hope Corbin takes pitty on that poor sweet puppy and sneaks him some food. He doesn't know his way home or he'd have left by now ,he's only about 5-6months old because that's when they routinely neuter dogs.... He's lost.! As a kindness to the owner who loves and misses him please feed him!!! Notification of shelters and the police department that he is there, would be a act of kindness that as a dog owner and lover , would bless me beyond words that he's being cared for till they are reunited.

Hey sorry but I was a Dog Obedience Instructor for 10yrs & the first thing we taught & explained to owners was to make sure during a Fireworks Day etc to monitor or keep their pets very close as they are super sensitive to Fireworks- come on the 4th July is HUGE. The moment a dog shows any form of aggression toward children I would immediately remove him as this will not change & could be a huge problem. Ben you have done the right thing for your Family & when you are ready to get a dog- 1/Check the parents of the dog out for temperament issues- REALLY IMPORTANT. Great video Thankyou- Cheers Denise- Australia

Hey Ben, I grow Painted Hills sweet corn and it grows anywhere from 5 to 7 ft. Yours growing consistently short is most likely a nitrogen problem. I always add extra blood meal to my corn beds as it is a heavy feeder. I also cover the stalks with compost and horse manure after the corn is a couple of feet tall. More nitrogen and keeps wind from blowing them down. Painted Hills is a cross of Painted Mountain flour corn and Luther Hill sweet corn.

Awww.. That dog is adorable!! And seems to have taken to you and your boys. What a sweetie, I'm sure the owner is missing it.. Hope you can find who it belongs to. Not knowing how long its gone without eating and being a puppy, it needs food. It's obviously lost and looking for someone to feed it. That's the humane thing to do.. I've adopted both a stray cat and a dog that wandered into my yard, (after looking for a lost dog sign around town and calling the local vet to see if anyone reported a lost animal) and both were the best pets l ever had.

Awesome creation Ben. Yes film all that. So your canine shadow looks like someone’s stock guardian dog. He seems very respectful to homesteading life. Maybe inquire through neighbors. My neighbors dog went running every morning with my husband 4 miles then one day he just wouldn’t go home and the neighbor said he cries to get back and did we want him. Then the other neighbor’s dog came to help me with morning chores for a few days then one afternoon while we were cutting firewood we saw him dragging his dog house across 10 acres to our yard. So Ben, sometimes dogs and cats choose you. Blessings ❤️🌱

He looks like a good dog to have on your farm. He might get big, but it’s okay to have him in the house at night or during cold weather. Corn is a very very heavy feeder. It needs lots of fertilizer and water. Particularly nitrogen before it tassels and calcium nitrate when it tassels. A good dose of triple 15 from Lowe’s at pre-plant, knee high, shoulder high, then one more time when it tassels. If it’s not raining twice a week keep it watered. If the leaves start to roll up it’s stressed out. Don’t let it stress out. Keep it weeded, hilled, fertilized, and watered and normally you have good success. Also, plant your rows a minimum of 30 inches apart and thin your plants to about 8 to 12 inches apart within your rows. That gives the pollen ample room to fall all the way down into the surrounding plants when the wind blows. Plant your corn plots in a square or rectangle as large as you can. If it stresses too much it will try to reproduce before it should and that’s when you get short stalks and low production

I would instead invest in efforts to build the soils beneficial microbial and fungal life. That is where the real soil wealth is achieved. I currently own land that was plowed and fertilized for two generations with manufactured fertilizer for row crop production. The soil is lifeless and dead and works only as a medium to hold more chemical fertilizer in order to grow something.

SEED SAVING...I cover the seed heads with little organza drawstring bags (like people use for wedding favors) until time to harvest. It keeps the birds from eating them, keeps most of the bugs off and keeps the seeds from falling to the ground before I can get to them. So far it has worked really well.

Years ago I think the guy's name was Jerry Green on PBS TV. This is his recipe for getting rid of Japanese Beetles.
    1) Get a cheap or used Blender for your garden. DO NOT USE YOUR KITCHEN BLENDER!!!
    2) Take a pint jar out to the garden, pick the Beetles off your plants, put them in the jar. Just keep your hand over the top so they don't escape.
    3) Put them in the garden blender, fill it with water and blend well.
    4) I used old pantyhose to strain the Beetle Juice into a Sprayer and fill with it with water.
    5) Spray your plants.
    6) He said you can do this with any bugs in your garden. But, it has to be the bug you're having a problem with. I only did the Japanese Beetles Juice.
They made lace out of my Concord Grape Leaves and Detasseled my Corn. I never had another problem with Japanese Beetles.
Have a blessed evening, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏✝️🇺🇸🙏

When it comes to dealing with your insect problem in your gardens... guinea fowl, they eat tics, beatles and other such insects. Just hatch a few a leave them to roam your homestead. As long as they find food, which they easily should, then they should just stick around and continue eating bugs and grubs while not eating any of your veggies if what I have heard is true (still something to research for yourselves). Thanks for the video!

Couldn't find his owner and he wasn't chipped thought about keeping him but then he bit me three times and peed on my bed try to give him away didn't have any luck so I took him to the shelter which I've never done that before. In the meantime you should feed him. If he doesn’t have a chip then you can keep him. He seems like a sweetheart and is so cute. I love looking at your garden. It is such a relaxing thing to go out at the end of the day and see what is sprouting up and what is ripening. I have a small garden and get a great deal of satisfaction from growing vegetables.

It wouldn't take long to make a few calls or check local lost n found dogs either but not feeding then complain dog ate a chicken.. wow duh. This is the only video they have put out that I am very unhappy with. I wouldn't expect that of the Hollars.

If you can't find the owners, keep him. It's rare for a pup that age to be so well adjusted to chickens. Usually they go for them, especially if he's hungry. So he'd be a very good fit. Besides a few sleepless nights from howling, he should learn quick enough to stay outside.

You need to look into Maremma Sheepdogs. They are amazing LGD's & super great with people! Our male doesn't do great with the other male Aussies, but the female loves EVERYONE! They both are awesome at guarding our property & animals. They absolutely are enthralled with our goats. They do great with the chickens too, Maremmas are less prone to run off & quieter than Great Pyrenees. Looks like your kiddos would love an LGD out on the property keeping the critters away & loving his/her family. If you get one, make sure that they are being raised out with the livestock where you get them from. I've noticed that makes a huge difference. Then train on a tether or short leash until you can trust with animals. Then gradually increase the length of the tether. Then off leash/tether time supervised. So excited seeing another video from you guys! Just love your little family!

She is built thin like a shepard and half St. Bernard and half German shepard, and marked like a St. Bernard. Interestingly, she is 4 months old and just about the same size. I kept her sister "Rosie" who is built like a St Bernard and is colored like a German Shepard. They are great, easy trainers, good with the livestock and children, generally low key. Remember that stalk elongation begins at about the V5 stage of development (five visible leaf collars). Prior to that stage, most of the plant's energy is directed to root development and leaf initiation.
