Keeping my 60 alive and running in 2021 is a labor of love. Ive replaced the back light, installed the updated OS (which involves removing and replacing parts on the circuit board), and recently replaced the disk drive with a floppy emulator. Now i cant access my library of floppy disks, hurts my heart. Now tact switches are starting to fail. There are 50 to replace inside. Each with 4 solder points. I been putting off that ordeal. Such an amazing piece. The character of the sound is perfect. The timing LOCKS LIKE NO OTHER. And the limited sampling time is a lost key production competent, it drives creativity in a cool way. Roger changed the world.
A real drummer is nothing like a produced beat, drummers had nothing to worry about , just like the 303 didn’t replace bass players , I use an MPC and try as I might I’ll never be a real drummer
I always thought 1988 was a big year for hip hop, changing the sound, now I see it was the same time the mpc 60 came out. No coincidence. Same for mpc 2000 and 1997. I always thought 97-98 was the start of a new sound.

I put on UA-cam and enjoy the trip down memorylane along with details and info that i (and most people) didn't know .... I drive a lot and it's always entertaining and educational at the same time. Thanks man for making these joints ! Don't forget to look into the Zoom Sampletrak ST-224. Extremely underrated and it's a piece of hardware that can still be found and purchased by regular folk unlike most legacy MPCs and similar devices that are now into used car territory.
The armrest really makes the machine feel like it’s built for the pro market. That’s luxury right there. Imagine if you bought a synth today that had an arm rest. You know they weren’t playing with that addition.
I love your shows.. You should also do studio equipment like the Avalon 737, La2a, Lexicon Primetime. Stuff that dosnt actually make the sounds but really does....
I never had experience with mpc until MPC Live mk1 but upgraded that for X and I'm glad I did. Now I understand why it's a cult status sequencer. All my synths go thru it by sampling a phrase I sequenced from another step sequencer. I really like it. It's been a year and I'm on it daily. That drag and drop is sooo cool

The MPC was born from the ashes of the Linn 9000 disaster. It's cool to think there is some kinda link that goes from the Linn LM1, to the MPC60 all the way to the MPC One, MPC Studio MK2. I was shocked to learn the MPC60 only had 16 note polyphony, that is damn low! But back then, this was probably the most powerful "groovebox" available back then.
Man, I love this series! I’m binging the whole thing learning a lot. You ever look into either the Ensoniq Mirage or EPS for one of these? Ensoniq/Akai samplers are the fucking coolest. I just had to sell a Mirage for parts because nobody would even work on it. I called 7 repair shops! Felt bad, but I got 250$ for it and put it towards a MPC Live, so it’s all good. I’m looking forward to your next video! Keep up the great work.
And yes finally The MPC 60 I didn't get a chance to use this but its definitely on my bucket list of machines to buy in the future and thank you so much for this series

The best drum sampler and sequencer combo ever made. My only negative, and probably at the time it was released even would have been, that you can’t sample while recording (that would have allowed for resampling too). I use it as a drum machine/sequencer only tho, too annoying to chop samples on it lol
I love mine. I'm not totally in love with the sound of it, like I was my SP1200, but the sequencer can't be beat. Just wish they'd have given it the sampling engine of the 950, which I guess they could've done. Variable sample rate (and therefore more time too) and the filter. But they didn't see the 60's sampling side being used for anything other than one shot perc hits I suppose.
I have one and I love it but I use it only as a sequencer at the moment. have thought of selling it and getting an ASQ10 + pads but again not sure if it would be as inspiring as the 60.
@@djdeznyc nah. im keeping mine. bought it many years ago from somobody that switched to sequencing on Cubase and felt it was outdated. He didnt know how much to sell it. I did him a favour for giving him 500-600 for it!
What no one really thinks about is, Roger didn't even know how hiphop would adapt to the 60, it's no mention of hiphop in the manual at all, the creativity in the culture is crazy💯💯, by the time the 3000 had come out it was official on a world wide scale, hip hop was still in its younger years, so I'm sure Roger didn't have it in mind at the time
Roger was an excellent drum programmer (may have been a drummer) but he was more 80s rockpop than anything. Hip Hop took that piece and made it do what it does today. At the time baffling old Rog.
