Hello how are you doing
Classic 👍
RIP Harold - probably the greatest bass singer in music of all time
Michael Seay
RIP Lew Dewitt the greatest Voice of the Statler Brothers
I agree!
:c
Yeah, Harold could hit 'em pretty low and solid! Not many groups can sing harmony like that, and then throw in some awesome falsetto to boot!
J.D. Sumner and Richard Sterban, just to name two of the best bass-singer.
San Andreas is where I live in and its the only kind of life I understand!!!!

Thug Life you mean?
K-rose is the reason I still love country music today
The live version sounds identical to the studio version.
Fun fact:
This is the actual recording, which they though was the rehearsal.
Back then in Denmark we had a competent producer, who believed in making things authentic.
Em live ficou até melhor.👏👏👏👏
The live version sounds identical ti the Studio version
No, it doesn't. The guitar part is different, and it only has bass, drums and guitar. No piano, acoustic guitar, tambourine, or tic-tac bass.
But they do sing just as beautifully live as in the studio.
Back in the good old days before auto tune!! You knew what you were getting, raw talent back then
I remember when I would play GTA San Andreas and just sit in the car and listen to the music
John z co Same.K rose was probably the best radio station in the game.

K-Rose radio on GTA San. Very classic game and radio.

I know this song is about a "woman of ill repute" but I have always loved this song. Rose probably showed him more love and caring than those "Christian" people that looked down their snooty manicured noses at him.

A generation of artists who didn't need autotune to sing beautifully. I have chills!
👍
Idk future goes pretty hard
I wont lie, I came here because of san andreas...but damn! They perform flawlessly. What a performance, better than its studio counterpart. Awesome!
That high tenor on the last verse......chills
Lew was a master. My favorite tenor. He passed in 1990. His replacement was ok, but Lew's voice was absolutely golden.

Lou Dewitt was the best tenors in history! He was from about a half hour from me in Waynesboro Va … these were our local hero’s
That was the late Lew DeWitt.
Omg grew up listening to them. Country music is not what it used to be. 😢 real country I miss

She was called a scarlet woman by the people
Who would go to church but left me in the street
With no parents of my own, I never had a home
And an eighteen year old boy has got to eat
She found me outside one Sunday morning
Begging money from a man I didn't know
She took me in and wiped away my childhood
A woman of the streets this lady Rose
This bed of Rose's that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of Rose's where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I understand
She was a handsome woman, just thirty-five
Who was spoken to in town by very few
She managed a late evening business
Like most of the town wished they could do
And I learned all the things that a man should know
From a woman not approved of I suppose
But she died knowing that I really loved her
Off life's bramble bush, I picked a rose
This bed of Rose's that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of Rose's where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I understand
This bed of Rose's that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of Rose's where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I understand
I don't know where you copied and pasted this from, but whoever wrote it got a few things wrong.
1. It's "begging money from a man I didn't know," not "taking money."
2. It's "She was a handsome woman just thirty-five," not "thirty-four.
3. It's "Is the only kind of life I understand," not "love I understand."
Glad you enjoy the Statler Brothers. I had the pleasure of seeing them live many times in the 1970's & 80's, and talking with them in person on their travel bus.
@@gmc.darwinj.eisenhart7615 thankyou for correcting me on those mistake, btw i found them on google. i wish i also had the chance to watch them perform live.

For 30 years I've loved this song. It's possibly my favourite Statler Brothers song. Everything about it so expertly done, but what gets me are the lyrics. There is so much going on there, such rich, complex storytelling. What a great song.
I'm young and never got to see them live- I'm beside myself
Can't believe that game was 30 years old

Very rarely are bands as good live as they are in their studio recordings. The Statler's being one of them for sure.
Lew Dewitt...hot like fire. Thanks all the Stats for great tunes for all those years and years.

NOT MUCH BUT WANTED TO SHARE MY SMALL TRIBUTE TO HAROLD REID- : You will be greatly missed. Thanks for all those great songs.I have been a fan over the years since first hearing "Flowers on the Wall" back in 1980.Raised my family with their music. I will always remember his wit, his humor, his big heart, & that wonderful bass sound. Harold left a legacy never to be forgotten. Our world lost a great voice & a great man. Rest In Peace Harold rest in peace. You were one of a kind.😔
Out of all the GREAT tenors that have performed as a part of Southern Gospel Quartets, and tenors that backed up major Country Music acts; Lew DeWitt was the best and has not been overtaken even since his passing. He had this warble or rapidly uttered, gliding tones along with his perfect tenor pitch that always gave The Statler Brothers an edge from the very beginning. It's a sound that some people wouldn't notice until it is gone. Listen to songs with Lew and then songs recorded after Jimmy Fortune came along and you can readily tell the difference. This is not to take anything away from Fortune as he and the Statler's had an outstanding career until they decided to retire. But, Lew DeWitt was the G.O.A.T. [Lew DeWitt ~ March 12, 1938 ~ August 15, 1990]
Agree.
Jimmy is/was good. Lew was magical.
I am going back to 70's 80's and 90's , who is coming with me? ♥️

Statler Brothers were my so favorite growing up. I wrote to them. Had many records.
Miss the good ole days. Growing up on a farm way up on a mountain. I loved the older country singers.
I was inlove with the Statler Brothers. Anything I found on them I kept in a box under my bed. 8 of us kids n we made our own fun. My three sisters and I made pretend microphones, made pretend guitars, we loved pretending we were singers. 😁
We would sing their songs and dad, oldest sister , two brothers n youngest sister was our audience. 😁
I miss growing up on the farm. Best life ever. I hate change. My sister year younger then me past away about 7 years ago. 😢😔
Dad past away, mom died 2017 dementia. I took care of her from 2014 till her death on Dec 24 2017. 😔
My family was music people. My dad and his brother Jimmy played guitar and use to sing and play on the radio.
Mom sang on the radio. She could play the fiddle by ear.
Use to sing Patsy Clines songs, Kitty Wells. She sounded like them.
My sister Marlene that passed played guitar, banjo. Brothers played guitar. Two other sisters n myself never did. But sang. I use to record myself singing with the country singers from the radio. I could sound like Crystal Gales, Tanya Tucker, Donna Fargo. Good ole days are gone. Miss them. We lived where we had no running water on the house. Packed water from spring house for everything. It was down littl bank from the house.
Oh my pap, moms dad n his friends played on the radio every week end. He played the harmonica, guitar, fiddle, banjo, many other instruments. He was good we all stay at paps n grans n go out in his old truck to listen to them on the radio.

My dad heard this song once and was quite intrigued with it and wanted to play it on his accordion. The only trouble was when he could think of the tune, by the time he got his accordion out, he'd forgotten it. Man was he frustrated. Then I told him I had the song in my repertoire of music, and he brought his accordion over and listened to it a few times and he had it down.

Tiago is correct about the lyrics corrections of "life" and "thirty-five" (not "love" and "thirty-four). Also, it should be "begging money from a man I didn't know, " not "taking money."
