I will always have a special place in my heart for The Statler Brothers! My grandma was their secretary all the way up until they retired. I remember sitting in their "meeting" room eating oranges, while Harold made my little brother and I laugh hysterically 🤣 we still keep in touch with Jimmy once in a while. These guys were the kindest men I've ever met. They definitely kick-started my passion for singing. Man so many awesome memories!

Tempted to say one of the greatest country songs ever written, and performed. But it really transcends country. The comic but achingly painful verses by the tenors were just brilliant. And Harold hitting the beautifully deep "Kaaa-ngaroo" a half beat before the others was always one of the most fun two seconds I could ever enjoy in a song. RIP Harold, and Lew.

I remember seeing the Statlers in the early 70s as the lead-in for a Johnny Cash concert at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. That was when I became a fan of the Statler Brothers !

Remember when people would talk to each other about how awesome the Statler Brothers are? Now, out comes the cell phone, no interaction, just social media. So sad. RIP Harold you are loved and missed. I don’t know how we will ever attempt on keeping their legacy alive?

It's amazing that a country vocal group won a Grammy Award over The Beatles "Help!" in 1966 with this song! That's how good the Stalters are. They beat the greatest rock and roll band in the world at the time and they aren't even a rock and roll band! 🤷👍✌️🤘

A very interesting piece of information.
I wasn't born until the '70s ; but after reading your remark, it occurs to me that the GRAMMY's used to issue awards based on 'talent'... rather than adhering to the demands of Sony, Universal & Warner Chappell industries.

As soon as my brother and I put it on this song played
    Loved it ever since

This song I truly believe has for half a century, been one of the most spontaneously sung / enjoyed tunes with small to medium sized gatherings of the period. Situations where you could hear one another, if you will. Amazing grace, precious memories, angel band, papa was.a rollin stone, the thrill is gone and a few more come to mind, but I wonder if folks who weren't there to witness / realize just what a big deal this song was and is. I'm from north east ms and you can go hundreds of miles in most directions, and I'm giving you a factual presentation. The term iconic is overused, but in this case any and all veneration is apt to come up far lacking. All to say: None of these joyous moments would have occurred without the beautiful voice of Harold Reid. Thank you sir.
