    I lived in Medford about 25 years ago or so. Nothing to write home about. Around Medford you had Central Point, White City, Talent, Phoenix, Ashland and Jacksonville.

    Talent has it's own theatre ... The Camelot .. which is just as good if not better than some in Ashland. Some excellent restaurants, and a walkable downtown with parks and coffee shops you would not expect in a town this small. It's a real gem and not just a "suburb" of Ashland or Medford. Oldtown has a strong sense of community and there are some beautiful new developments as well. You really didn't give this town a fair shake in my opinion 🙂

      Yes, the smoke can be an issue in the Pacific Northwest sometimes, depending on the direction of the wind and location of the fires. Thankfully, we haven't been socked in with smoke for weeks on end in quite some time. Fingers crossed that continues!

    Do I need to rent a awd or 4x4 to explore the national park and surrounding areas?

    • @AtomicSneeze1
      @AtomicSneeze1 Рік тому

      only if you want to explore some of the off road trails in OR. Even then most are generally easily passable for any non lowered vehicle. I own a Grand Marquis and have yet to find anywhere I cannot explore, at least sticking to the standard tourist areas. Last week I visited a couple of Rogue Valley "Ghost" town (actually a mine), slight dirt road, passable by just about anything. Even my Mom's Mini Cooper would have had no issues what so ever. Now if you want to visit the "back country areas" (most not in the NP btw) then 4WD would be advisable. But then doing something like that really takes planning and is not something a novice should be attempting alone. But for the NP's, I'm guessing your thinking Crater lake, then no. At least in the spring, summer, and fall. Winter is a whole nother story. But then, most areas in the NP's are closed or partially closed in snowy conditions.

    Recent Summers in Medford?? SMOKE, Smoke, SmOke…. (bad air from surrounding forests/wildfires descend into Medford - stay indoors in Summer, very very sad).
    Otherwise, gorgeous!

      This year was fantastic until mid August. Then it's been hot or miss depending on the day and wind direction. That's the way it goes. There have been recent summers that have been very slowly and others that have been very good air quality all summer. Totally depends on fire location and wind direction.

    • @eugeniebreida1583
      @eugeniebreida1583 Рік тому

      Thanks for your response, much appreciate your honest perspective. For myself, I feel the weather so far inland is a bit too warm, and then too cold in Winters = snow/ice, compared to the more maritime weather I have currently (Seattle near Puget Sound, Grays Harbor area).
      We had an absolutely stellar cool and smoke=free Summer until the last few days (Canadian smoke for the most part), but it's still cool in Aberdeen, so now A/C, even if windows shut due to occasional smoke blowing by). In Seattle it's been warm latter half of August, and with NO insulation here and the urban heat raising night time temps, it's stuffy i here, even with my various high quality air filtration modes.
      For me, as one trained in undergrad for 4 yrs in 'Evironmental Design', later Masters degree in Arch/Urban Planning, I do pay a great deal of attention to the lay of the land,
      As a realtor I know that you are paying attention as well, tho I realize we are all likely to give a bit of a rosy glasses glow to wherever we may happen to have hung our hats - hoping to keep them there as climate change affects ALL of our lives!
      Are any of your vids more focused on these matters? (Fire/Smoke/Heat etc Tree Health/topographical micro=climates, etc??)
      I think this info is more and more desired by those scouting an area!
      Thanks again, appreciate your description of the feel of various towns along the way down near Ashland/Medford - but the air down there is insanely smokey (I carry PurpleAir map w/ me constantly), and my observation is it's been in the tank the last few Summers, and very 'warm', as well. (Can't do heat any longer, thus I picked up the Aberdeen prop!)

    One thing to know if moving into southern oregon is that the Health Care options are ABYSMAL!! I moved to S. Oregon from S. California. (could not wait to get out Cali). Oregon health care is worse than a lot of 3rd world countries, especially after coming from Cali. Despite all the problems that CA has the one thing that they do well, is health care. When I moved up here I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. took 4 years in CA to get under control, Finally got it locked down and then moved to OR. And they completely shot everything I had managed out the window. 3 years later and I'm still no where near where I was after leaving CA just due to Oregon regulations. First thing I found is that there are NO DOCTORS!! I'm not kidding, there are no MD's (general practice), All clinics, health centers, medical complexes, are all staffed with AT BEST nurses but usually just "medical practitioners", who see you and then refer you to specialists. In Grants Pass, there is actually only 1 actual MD (no longer taking patients) all others are RN's or MP's (medical practitioners). As a diabetic one doctor that I need regularly is an endocrinologist. There are 3, none of which are taking new patients, if you currently need an endocrinologist, you must drive to Eugene (170 miles N of Medford). In addition most medical appts are currently running at least 7-8 weeks out. Got a cold? You can see a MP in 2 months and then they can refer you to a specialist 2 months after that! Like I said ABYSMAL. Now one good thing is that you can use walk in clinics, most here in GP have a very short wait time (last time I went in I had to wait 30 minutes. BUT you never know who your gonna see. So if you dont mind getting someone who does not know your history and have to explain your history every time you go in, walk in clinics are not bad. I've only had to use the ER a couple of times in the last few years. Last time was 3 months ago when mom broke her wrist. No wait, I walked in and they had her back in the exam rooms before I could even give the receptionist all her info. And 2 years ago Dad had a stroke and it only took them about 5 minutes to get him triaged. So Emergency care is really good. But I cannot stress enough just how BAD the medical care is in OR. Everything else is Fabulous!!! I love everything about living here EXCEPT for medical.

    • @BuyingSouthernOregon
      @BuyingSouthernOregon  Рік тому

      I definitely agree with you on the emergency care, walk in care, and everything else about living here being fabulous! I think that's in part why the Asante Hospital System has been ranked I'm the Top 15 nationally for so many years in a row. I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time finding a doctor who can provide you care. There are a lot of great specialists in the area but I've heard some similar stories about long wait times to get in. Hopefully they can attract more doctors and specialist!

    • @xltek1
      @xltek1 11 місяців тому

      That’s a shame you’ve had such a bad medical experience, we have, on the other hand have had the exact opposite experience since moving to the Medford area from California. We are Medicare with supplement, I have had 5 surgical eye operations, 2 orthopedic surgeries in the last 3 years. No problem, no waits. If your looking for an MD to be your regular doctor, forget it. Almost all are NP’s taking care of basic maintenance and refer for specialties. We have found wonderful medical professionals here. Quite frankly, our wait time for medical help in California was becoming longer every year. Couldn’t be happier we got the hell out.

    • @mollasima3251
      @mollasima3251 10 місяців тому

      I think medical wait times for specialists are getting longer and longer everywhere. I'm in Phoenix AZ and have had to get in to see a neurologist and endocrinologist and each had 3 month wait times (and I'm in a big city). It's bad everywhere
