Beginners tip: add eyes to the plane for orientation. Because the rigidity of foam is inversely proportional to the temperature; avoid dark colors in "summertime".
Andrew, Can you swap a black wing with a white wing and see how she goes for orientation and flight stability.. Maybe a white elevator also??? Very hard to see on such a great looking day. A 1200mm Drift with pusher would be ideal as I love my Razor.👍
@Andrew Newton At 2 minutes and 4:15 , the ailerons are moving in a way that suggests a Kopilot (or comparable) is 'on' (wigeling the plane makes the ailerons respond). But making loopings seems to be impossible when the Kopilot is switched on. I have been looking in your voice over to find a reference to using or not using a Kopilot, so I have no clue at all. I am especially wondering about the moments the plane hangs almost 'still' in the turbulent air

Thank you for cooling my jets! I was a button click away from getting a PNP ZOHD DDB but you've sobered me up. The plane definitely is beyond my current skill level. You make it look easy but I can tell it's too much for dyslexic thumbs. ;) I need to go up three mistakes high with an underpowered diy slow stick, and then make left turn after left turn until the battery alarms, ha ha.
@@AndrewNewton Good idea ;) I've watched your review of this plane here because Banggood offered it for review ;) Not sure if I want it tho ;) But it looks great when you fly it there on the coast for sure!
Another waste of time and money. When are you going to stop being distracted in life? When are you going to make 1 decision for yourself? Blacked out plane designs are very dumb. It means you're just looking at sky all day. The human brain will always default to the blue and white colours instead of the black thing. The manufacturers are laughing at you and they're holding your money 💰.
Greetings. Nice video Andrew. I vote on you about a bigger Drift. The onboard footage of the runcam was recorded at 1080 60fps? I still have doubts on the best setup of the camera for no stabilized footage for youtube.
Very cool little plane and a pretty good price as well. That did look very agile. Sub-250g ;-) Thanks for the flight demonstration Andrew! See you in the Air!
This ZOHD Drift 1.0075 edition is looking very rad. Perhaps a bit of yellow, red, or orange to help with orientation? The Dark Breeze Edition looks at home sloping like a ninja on a warm Australian ocean breeze. Am very happy that the ZOHD foam production line is again up and running. Agree, would be great if ZOHD were to make a ~1.5x edition (ie: 1400-1600mm span), not that there is anything wrong with the Drift design when flying in calmer weather. I'd like to see a wider fuselage compared to what the Eachine-Razor had to accommodate a 21700 pack, and just easier access in assembling a KIT version, or installing FPV gear. Drift Albatros Edition? ;)
Hi, These planes look really nice, I fly fpv with my drones but i think i'll be getting one of these and there is a supplier in the UK with them in stock, Thanks.
I have bench tested the small and large props, and you actually get less thrust with the 3S prop with a 3S battery than you do with the 2S prop and a two s battery. Personally, I would just bin the 3 s prop.
Actually you need a just slightly smaller prop than the 5X5 for running on 3s. A lot of WOT running WILL burn the motor. We have 3 motors down via Drifts and Dart250gs by getting too keen on the 3s/5X5 combo. The ESC seems to always survive.
Hi Andrew, Recently I flew/maiden my Dark Breeze, and is was a bit hectic. When I don't give up elevator, it goes in a steep dive even at 50% throttle. CG is at the little marks under the wing, and that seems very far to the back to my feeling. I believe those CG marks are way off. What I don't get, I see you fly with a flight pack and camera up front. Battery is a ZOHD 2S1P all the way back in fuselage. I need about 30% UP elevator to level the plane out and keep it like that. I'm not using any flight controller right now because not being a big fan of them after +50 years. Is there anything I am missing? As I did everything as per manual. I guess that I need to get that up-elevator mechanically with trim at neutral. I do not see anything misaligned on the plane. I know the servo throws need to be less, at least one hole inside at the servo arm. Weather was decent, 4km/h with 20km/h gust sometimes. In my experience this thing doesn't fly like glider, rather like a hotliner, but could be my old eyes. Possibly the speed is to high at full throttle. Maybe I try the 3-blade prop on the 2S pack. Any suggestion is very welcome. Cheers Andrew, break a leg.
It balance slightly nose down with my fingers under those little marks. I try with some weight behind the battery. Might as wel put that KOPILOT in it. For now I gave elevator a mechanical UP and do a test with 3-blade prop on 2S to slow it down. Probably end up some more weight behind C of G. Well see. Thanks Andrew, Kind Regards.@@AndrewNewton
I've had a servo failure which had similar symptoms. Elevator moved when static but in the air the authority was very weak to non-existent. 😮 Other things to check: - Slop in linkages (everything tight?). - Control surfaces not damaged? - Elevator rates OK on your radio? - Elevator travel unhindered, hinges not too stiff and there is actually enough travel? - Plane not (too) nose heavy? A little is fine but too much and you'll experience problems.
If you're talking about launching, don't use full throttle, it will always dip down until flying speed is reached. Half throttle and a strong throw is the way to launch a high motor pusher.
Hi Andrew, waiting for my white Drift to come... 😁 PNP version... I'm a true beginner 😅 Did you actually suggest to ZOHD/Sonicmodell to make a bigger (1m-1m20) version ? I saw they do not have bigger than 1m models... I contacted them for some advice about battery size/weight; I saw you put a 2S 18650; might weight around 100gr ; not too heavy ? I am planning to fly it with different setups depending on the wind here (French Alps); either a really small 2S 600-800mAh battery for "soft" winds, and a more bulky 2200mAh Lipo for stronger winds, even maybe a 2x18650 like yours... I also plan to fly it with my Runcam 2 4K on top (to keep easy CG setting, and far from the nose in case of crash); any advice ? Great onboard video with the Thumb 👍😉
@@AndrewNewton Hi again, received the Drift some weeks ago, tried it in different situations but the winds are too unstable here at the moment (mountains, spring, turbulences...). But I struggle to balance/center it... I can easily balance it according to the marks under the wings by moving a 2S/1300mAh/67gr LiPo, but when I fly it with the rudder flat, in calm air, It is going down immediately. Then if I trim the rudder a bit up, I manage to fly but it is quite "sluggish". If I set the battery rearwards in the nose, and rudder flat again, of course the GC is further back than the marks from the manufacturer, and with flat rudder I still cannot obtain a nice fly, it is drowning... Any advice ? Did you experience the same behaviour ??? Never had this experience with any glider before... Thank you in advance.
