  • There are no more passionate wilderness seekers than Subaru owners. So much so, that a few years ago, the brand decided to apply the Wilderness name to their most rugged and trail-capable vehicles. Well, the latest Subaru to earn its way into the Wilderness family is the compact Crosstrek. So, let’s get lost in the details.

      From a cost perspective of creating such a vehicle would sell but Subaru already makes a ton of money from selling their ordinary Crosstreks. A WRX-version would be just another model in the lineup which most people would pass up. Only diehards would buy it, assuming they could keep it under $40k but it wouldn’t make any real difference to Subaru’s bottom line.

    I recently bought one of these in Geyser Blue, which is similar to this one shown here. And so far I love it, it’s the first AWD car I’ve ever owned so it takes some getting used to. And even though I don’t get into the wilderness as much as I like, but I can now maybe go in a little deeper when I do. I’ve always liked Subaru and I’m glad I’m starting with this baby.

    As others have echoed....a Turbo 4 and a manual and I'm all in...I hate CVTs. Even this 2.5 with a manual would be a cool rig worth buying. Sadly, I know the target market for the current coupling of CVT and 2.5 are more than happy. In either event...some bonafide performance cars from back in the day could barely rack up the numbers at the track...

    As an owner of the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness, my biggest disappointment is the HK Audio system. There is only 6 speaker locations, and four are two way speakers, that are counted as two separate speakers. The front door speakers act as the subwoofers, and the plastic interior door panels are not up to the task. The passenger door vibrates and buzzes with every punchy bass note in rock, country, and techno music. I've taken it to two different dealerships, and neither wants to or knows how to fix it. Listening to music on long road trips is not enjoyable with the HK Audio in this car.

    Someone took an STi drivetrain and threw it into a last gen Crosstrek. Lifted it, put an aggressive tire on it. DCCD is functional on it too. That huge infotainment screen is obnoxious. I know the government requires cars to have some sort of screen for a backup camera but putting all features into a touch screen is dangerous, annoying and cheap. @@mbox314 the strange thing is that in our 2001 Forester, the egernomics are excellent. The HVAC controls are chunky, big buttons you could operate with gloves on. At some point they threw out that sort of wonderful design.

    • @mbox314
      @mbox314 7 місяців тому +2

      @NSXTypeRGTRLM my guess is that touch screen are taking off because they are cheaper than buttons and knobs. They are also more forgivng of development mistakes which can be patched out later and features can be removed over time to help new car sales. It also helps that the screens age poorly so no one will be able to get by with a 20 year old vehicle.
