The “Colonial Era” AC games (III-Unity) were the most well-connected chunk of games outside the Ezio Trilogy. Now if only the games had come out in chronological order. If you want the story (the historical one, not the present) in order, you must play Black Flag, then the prologue of III, then most of Rogue, then the rest of III, then the end of Rogue, and finally Unity.
Ik I’m 11 months late but where does liberation and freedom cry come in?
SaVage Dude Freedom Cry is a direct sequel to Black Flag, chronologically a little over a decade later. You play it right after Black Flag and before anything else.
Liberation is trickier because it takes place entirely during III, and it’s not like with Rogue where you can pretty-neatly place it between III’s Haytham prologue and the decades-later main part of the game. I could be mistaken, but Liberation takes place simultaneously with the middle of III. You could pay attention to the date at the start of each chapter and try to micromanage swapping between games, but it would be tedious so I wouldn’t bother. Liberation is far more loosely connected story-wise than the others (Aveline goes to New York and fights alongside Connor once in a sort of side quest, and that’s about the only connection for the main story, so you could play it after III and be ok.) If I had to try, I would try to line up Liberation’s snowy New York section with III, and other than that I wouldn’t worry about getting it exactly, because you’d be micromanaging it on a month-by-month, or even day-by-day, basis.
AC died after rogue. Even unity was decent compared to these recent rpgs

Well, according to what we see in the expanded universe of AC, Shay lived long enough to know his grandson and died of natural causes apparently.
Shay didnt kill Connor because he didnt care,Connor didnt kill civilians using manuscript, like other assasins
He did the right by leaving the Assassins. Yes He did became a Templar and he did kill the Assassins, but he was a hero. His goal was to eliminate all of the Assassins. He wanted to prevent earthquakes to happen. The Colonial Brotherhood were corrupted. They did all they could to get the artifacts, and they didn't care about the innocents who died like the ones who died in Lisbon.

They were blinded, Achilles was an callous person for not heeding Shay's word and his Assassin's brotherhood blindly following Achilles. And the deaths of Achilles's wife and son made him a worse person that he already were.
Shay after witnessing the error of his way by following order blindly... all those innocents live lost, he turn his back from once he called brothers and sisters for the greater good, saving the world.
Also before Lisbon was Tahiti.

Some countries who were ruled by communists 'became' authoritarian later. But communism when considering the ideology alone is not authoritarian.
Its the working class owning the means of production and all. So no way they would be templars. Templars follow a royalty in most games. They also establish hierarchy which is what the assassins fight against.
To be honest..the assassins are the ones who feel like anarcho-communists imo. They are the ones involving in revolution overthrowing existing monarchs..which were all done by communists in the past.

The problem is that fanboys can never see the bigger picture of it. The Assassins want “freedom” which will turn into chaos. Templars want order, which could backfire, turning into chaos. Both groups basically want the same thing but different ways of achieving it. But unfortunately a lot of the fanbase is too retarded to understand.

Yep, Shay's defected so he can control the Assasins from straying away from one of their purpose (protecting the innocent, in which the colonial brotherhood failed to do)
Everybody wanted a conclusion Connor, Shay & Arno's stories as those 3 games tied into eachother but Ubisoft just abandoned it.
I played Unity first, so I didn't know who killed Arno's father.. This part was very emotional.

And after Rogue you need to play assassins creed chronicles (china, india and russia), because it tells more about the box that Shay was looking for, and the final cutscene (after you pick all the animus fragments hidden in the 3 games) reveals that the chronicles saga (present day) happens one year after rogue and one year before Syndicate

RPG Is Life I believe this game was just to content the then previous gen since they were just releasing Unity for the next one. Therefore, I understand their choice of focusing more in one game than the other
I feel like this game was just an afterthought. Similar mechanics to Black Flag, but has 3's inferior, but decent graphics. It would've done better if it had the production value of a "main" Assassin's Creed Game.
You realise that Unity and Rogue were not made by one developer but 2 different? Rogue was made by Ubisoft Sofia while Unity by Ubisoft Montreal so they didn't interfere into each other's projects.

@@Iemonzinger no, In the cutscene, it shows his hidden blade lodged in the front, cos his hand is in the front.... Also, he stabs him in the lower back, and the guy was bleeding from the upper part of his chest... This was a scripted cutscene, like all of them. So it doesn't matter where you stab him, the cutscene shows the same stuff...

That little detail with Shay's voice when he is making this monologue. You can hear his voice being sad or perhaps more sceptical. Also a bit regret in his voice.

Agreed. I wish we'd get a sequel game to continue his story, maybe with him leading the Templars in America and hunting down Connor for killing Haytham and undoing all his hard work for the Templar's in AC: Rogue.

@@JJJJ-lk8wjThat's debatable, the only thing stopping Shay back would be his age but Ezio was in his 50s during Revelations and Altair was killing people in his 90 so I think it wouldn't hold Shay back too much. Connor is probably the strongest character in the series but he makes bad choices and is too hot headed, he also isn't that great at stealth. Shay is very well balanced plus he has training as not only an Assassin but as a Templar, and he has deadly weapons and gear like the airsoft rifle that also doubles as a grenade launcher. If a game like that ever did happen (which I doubt it ever will) then it would be cool if they let you choose who wins, you could either play as Shay and kill Connor or vise versa. Since we don't know anything about how either one died it could just be up to the player to make the choice.

Probably one of the few games the series has offered exceptionally in terms of story and thematics.
Shay is very skilled as a former Assassin and as a Templar. even Bellec said that the man who killed Arno's father had no witnesses.

i might be crazy but when i think about assassin's creed from 3 to Rogue. I get a weird Star Wars feeling. Conor is Luke Skywalker, Haytham is Vader, Shay is Anakin. I mean its not a copy and paste. The similarities are minor. But Shay did betray his friends like Anakin did. Haytham and Conor did resemble that kind of relationship like Vader and Luke had sometimes. Just a thought
It is definitely a great trilogy games I'd say that

Haytham became a Templar because he believed Peace and Freedom can not coexist, Shay became a Templar partially for the same reason, but mostly because he saw that the Assassin's in his era were careless and power hungry and would recklessly search for those precursor sites without heeding his warning.

People who hate this game should know that Rogue was never planned to be released until Ubisoft decided it just 6 months before Unity's launch and in just 6 months they gave us this masterpiece, what an story and I can say for me this is one of the most underrated AC Game 😍
The whole Kenway era trilogue, 3,4 and Rogue, is the best in the series.

I just finished this game after a gaming hiatus
After Revelations, I guess Ubisoft isn’t looking to expand upon characters for more than one game but Shay’s character to me was interesting. It would be cool if we had a game playing as his son or grandson and find out what happened to him (same with Connor).
I like how the studios leaned toward showing more of the Templar’s side and not just the Assassins good/Templars bad formula.
My hope is they can at least maintain innovative, unique storylines and create or renew characters.
I like how in assassins creed that Good vs Bad formular literally don't exist, Assassins and templars are equally terrible, Templars have a decent goal but definitely the wrong methods, assassins have the "better" Methods but a weird believe on freedom and peace.
Shay is honestly my second favorite protagonist in the series. This game is so underrated
so this comes before unity

I finished the game just now... Its an amazing game that i have ever played... Such detailing in the buildings, structures and other environmental textures. I felt like i was there. But it ended soon. 😭

I also want to add something, isn't it kind of hypocritical that the Assassins have sets of Rules (The Assassin's Creed) like staying your blades away from the innocents even though their motto allows them to do anything and that nothing is true (basically that Creed is a lie)?

@@H.K.5 Leonidas was old and he kicked @ss. Maybe Shay can get his hands on an artifact that makes him stronger and that's when Arno can come in, one way or another, he needs to get vengeance for his dad.
The contrast between these graphics and Unity's graphics is amazing.
Gotta love how Shay walked out as a complete badass after recovering the box.

For those who don't know this saga :
The story begins in ac 4 with Edward kenway he fought for peace his way against the Templars and proctected the laboratory , now the story going in ac 3 haytham kenway the son of Edward kenway, was trained by his father to become an assassin , but he became a Templars and after the the main character of ac 3 Connor kenway the grandson of Edward kenway, kills his father in ac 3, now the story of Shay Patrick
The story of rogue is settled between ac 3 and 4.
Better you play ac 4 first then rogue and then 3 to get a better experience
I like, how they did this game, no matter what others say. Revelations and 3 closed the first part of the series, while 3 also started another being 3, BF, Unity and Rogue. With Adewalé, Haytham, Charles and Connor mention, they made Shay a missing piece in these series, and they did great job with this game, also closing second part of the series. Now I think, they will leave Syndicate stand alone, becuase there has to be something done with modern day story and also they are going waay back to the Ancient Egypt, so no more things abiut the Frye twins, whatsoever. But I hope the Origins reboot, and "The start of the new era" can make things right, because this is just great franchise thrown to the wrong direction. But I think Origins can set things right, and that Assassin's Creed will return. If they will mess it up again, than I will come here and write a comment, saying that this game, and particularly this moment was the moment, where the series should have ended. Have a nice day, and never forget. We are assassins.
The most underrated yet one of the best story in AC Universe for me. And after i finished this one, my view against the Templar have changed
For me, it only strengthen my hatred for Templars.

Boring and predictable. Far more interesting to me would be Shay and Connor working together as they had similar views in many ways. Then a templar or assassin who didn't agree with their truce gets one of them killed, and shit starts again. I would like for more of that gray to remain instead of another vs situation. Shay and Connor having a truce is far more interesting then another revange thing. Also templars pretty much rule america in modern day. So it makes sense that somebody got rid of assassins in america more thoroughly. Easy way would be Shay goes and takes out Conner with long distance weapons (close combat he'd lose probably and Shay is smart enough to know that). But thats also boring. Them having a truce and working together, creating the longest period of stable peace between the factions and helping native tribes together (as both have ties with them even if in different ways) giving us a glimpse of what could have been, before possibly old man shay gets killed, maybe taking a lethal strike ment for Connor. He feels Connor is needed to keep the assassins from going down achilles path. So he saves him. Connor tries very hard to keep the peace but fails because withoud Shay to hold the templars back. A nasty templar could be in charge after Shay. or a good ish templar who blames connor for Shays death. And they take no prisoners. War breaks out again and Connor is forced to hunt templars once more. His wife as per canon leaves him in this period because she cant watch him lose himself in this fight anymore and how it breaks him and she does not want her children involved in this tragedy. Connor makes the hard call of fighting for a better future instead for his own happyness and family. He saves many lives, makes a difference where he can. But the assassins and templars have no clear winner by the end. Leaving another future time open as the moment the templars gained the upper hand again. Maybe after Connor died. Or a whole different story, but something that shows Shay and Connor as the layerd not traditional Templar and Assassin they are. Them being allies, possibly even friends in a way, is a story I want to see. Not a hunting eachother thing. We have games enough of templars and assassins wanting to murder eachother. lets tell a different story. Also I dont want to see either murder the other. I want both to get a worthwhile story and meaningfull ending as they are both such facinating characters. Them just killing eachother seems like waste of potential for either of them.
Ironically, Shay was more of an Assassin than the Colonial Assassins (under Achilles) themselves. It would be much cooler if Connor initially attempts to hunt down Shay but then, after listening to Shay's story, has to make the decision to either the kill the traitor that destroyed the Colonial Assassins or to spare the man that saved thousands of innocent lives and set the Assassins back on the right path (by sparing Achilles).
I love how the intro to Unity just hits different if you've played Rogue first
Imagine playing Rouge first knowing nothing about Unity, then buying Unity and slowly realising what was happening and then seeing Charles dead.
Thats exactly what happened to me today. I was close to finishing rogue in switch, i started up unity on my xbox to see the leap in graohics and played the first sequence, put it down to finish rogue and had my fucking mind blown how closely they tied the ending of rogue to the beginning of Unity. I was not expecting that and it was so cool how it connected.

He was more like a chaotic good character. His task was to prevent more earthquakes, and it didn't matter if it were the Assassins or the Templars who did it.
Its crazy to say as an ac fan in 2024 that how this game connect three main stream line assassin's Creed games together
