It also explains something really strange at the start when it says we'll pretend that you're Spanish not Native American and then he instantly says Connor that really bug me for my entire first playthrough until I got to that point still it seems like a really strange line is not a Spanish name you think if I made a decision for the origin of the name they would have just taken that out

If you play Rogue you realize how badly Achilles f*cked up... but then it makes sense it's so meaningful how he tried to amend and make up for his mistakes by helping Connor. Connor loved him like family and knew he owed much to him... So yes, for me I hope Achilles deep inside rested knowing he did the right thing in the end... and that he deserved to peacefully rest alongside his own family he missed always so, so much.

He didn't really fuck up more like Shay fucked up because he was a moron who didn't explain it properly if you watch the cutscene where he lashes out at Achilles he doesn't explain what happened at all he just says "You sent me to murder them!". Like what the hell is anyone going to do with that Info? The next problem is he stole the manuscript before telling his side of the story clearly. The plot forces you to think Achilles fucked up but in reality Shay is much to blame for the fall.

I never understood why people disliked Connor, in fact I feel it would have been odd had he been a happy and charismatic person like Ezio. Ezio was ypung, but pretty much grown up when tragedy struck him. His personality had been developed by then and he didn´t turn bitter, but Connor was still a child when his village and mother burned before his eyes. He spend his days and years after that on the hunt fighting and protecting. How was he supposed to act? To be honest AC3 had been the last genuine AC game for me. Black flag was fun to play, but the story didn´t grab me and the games afterwards also never did what AC1-AC3 did for me. I hope they go back to their roots with the next one and stop this genderswap, RPG madness. You cannot tell a cohesive story like that.

    • @jeffreypeters2803

@@michi6486 Yeah, if nothing else he was also a protagonist that was basically having to live and act within a culture that he didn't grow up in, so him acting like Ezio wouldn't have made sense, plus given the fact that his traumatizing moment happened when he was a child

    • @interruptingcow2418
      @interruptingcow2418 2 роки тому +25

Speaking of culture...its a bit ironic AC lore-wise that a native-american became instrumental in bringing freedom to the colonies and it was those same colonies who oppressed his people and drove them out of their ancestral lands. It like one big complicated and awkward mess.
You can see connor questioning and arguing with some characters about it throughout the game like him wondering what happens after they win the war and drive the templars out..
One of the reasons why i think this game wasn' very popular was because the assassins mentor was black and the main protagonist was born and raised as a native american.

The sad part about AC3 is that a lot of Connor's best character moments are in the side quests. The main story comes off as black and white with Haythem, specifically in the prologue, being the best character. However seeing Connor build up the community of the homestead and his adventures and interactions with its citizens really helped Connor's depth as a character.

Even though Achilles was a reckless Grandmaster of the Colonial Assassins in the past, which disillusioned Shay to become a Templar. At least he realized the mistakes hes made that almost destroyed the Brotherhood. He taught Connor, his last student not to become the Assassin that he was before, thus making the colonial Assassins stronger again. Rest in Peace old man.

    • @elianrodriguez7318
      @elianrodriguez7318 3 роки тому +47

One of my favorite parts over the course of the game was when Achilles and Connor were having an argument about Connor's current course of action and the decisions that each of the other had made up to that point he leaves Connor with a warning before his departure "In your haste to save the world boy take care you don't destroy it" since this was the same thing that caused the catalyst for Shay's betrayal and ultimately resulted in the destruction of Achilles' entire brotherhood. He was trying to make sure that Connor wouldn't make the same mistakes that he had made in the past; he didn't want Connor to become like him, he wanted him to be better.

You've become a cynical, depressed old man after Shay betrayed you. You are crippled, your branch of the Assassins is entirely wiped out, and all you have is a lonely old mansion. You have absolutely nothing. Without your students/Assassins, you can't even have respect from the local community due to the color of your skin.
But then, after countless wasted years, a bright-eyed, passionate boy comes knocking on your mansion's door, demanding to be taught lessons you haven't shared in god knows how long. The memories hurt, and deciding that you'd rather just rot away than risk making more mistakes like you did with Shay, you turn the boy away. You turn him away countless times. Again and again... Until you finally relent and agree to train him.
The boy's eyes are innocent. He approaches each lesson you teach him with infinite optimism, and the childlike curiosity with which he explores the world reminds you of... Of...
You christen the boy after your late son.
You've known that life can be unfair. You've seen how cruel the Fates could be, you've experienced it. For your mistakes, life has punished you, binding you to the cursed mansion where the ghosts of your students remain, and keeping you alive to suffer for more than you could have ever imagined.
But Connor, with his naive eyes and immovable purpose, convinces you that after decades of repentance, life could also forgive. Despite being his mentor, he's begun to teach you something instead:
He's taught you to hope again.

    Fun Facts:
There is a lot of ironies in the Kenway saga...
Edward Kenway killed an Assassin gone rogue, then killed Assassins while trying to claim (what he thought was) a treasure from the Templars, then later becomes an assassin himself, kills a Grand Master and later is killed himself, by a Templar.
    ___
That same Templar (Reginald Birch) would raise Edward's son, Haytham Kenway and the latter would join the Templar Order, eventually becoming a Grand Master.
    ___
The Colonial Brotherhood would be betrayed by a rogue Assassin (and soon-to-be Templar) named Shay Cormac.
The Colonial Brotherhood would eventually be destroyed and it's key members killed off by the Templar Order... and it all began with a betrayal.
    ___
Years later, Achilles would meet Haytham's son, Connor and raise/train him to become an Assassin.
Connor would eventually revive the Colonial Brotherhood and become it's leader.
    ___
The Colonial Order of Templars would eventually be betrayed by one of it's key members, Benjamin Church.
The Colonial Order would eventually be destroyed and it's key members killed off by the revived Colonial Brotherhood... and it all began with a betrayal.
    ___
Haytham Kenway would not only spare Achilles' life but also save his son, Connor's.
Achilles would later argue in favor of killing Haytham to his son, Connor.
Haytham Kenway is eventually killed by his son, Connor.
    ___
    Miscellaneous Fun Facts:
It was Haytham Kenway that crippled Achilles by shooting him in the shin.
This is why Achilles has a limp in AC3.
Haytham Kenway is also who saves Connor when he is about to be hanged.
He did this by throwing a knife at the rope, cutting it.
You don't see this in AC3 because you are viewing the events from Connor's perspective ... and at the time his vision was impaired due to a sack being placed over his head.
