Picatinny gives you the most surface contact and friction making it best for components that are mission critical in not shifting or moving even a fraction of a millimeter such as optics. Even the smallest shift with the smallest MOA can translate to wildly varying accuracy when amplified by great distances. It also gives you the most articulation in positioning components and pulls double duty and functions as a heat sync as you’re adding more material and surface area which makes it ideal for the top of a barrel shroud. So why not do picatinny all the way around the barrel. Well, it adds weight, can be uncomfortable to grip and is bulkier. This is where MLOK comes into play. It is significantly lower profile and milled through the wall of the barrel shroud for recessed mounting, allowing comments to sit flush with the shroud. This is great for keeping components such as a vertical fore grip or weapon light lower profile. Picatinny plates in various lengths can easily be added to MLOK making it even more versatile. Oh yeah, and use key mod if you want an inferior outdated mounting system that gets caught on everything.😂😂😂
In addition to that, if the pieces do ever come loose on any of them, the Picatinny also wins as the nuts and bolts on "female" Picatinny pieces typically have more length and play to still be all together if loose, say on a push switch eg that dropped of the rail on the floor. That switch would typically still be fully intact and be able to screw it back on the "male" Picatinny rail of the handguard. But I've found that with key mod defo but even mlok too, I've found that its less forgiving if not screwed down correctly as the bolts are naturally shorter and thus less play and when it comes loose, depending on attachment it is you don't notice and its completely fallen off the gun. But those ones when they fall off the bolt and nut will fall away separately too typically so your now gotta look for 3 parts not 1 like with the Picatinny and looking for a nut and bolt on any terrain floor is a joke. So for me from experience Picatinny wins there too. Hope i explained that clearly enough lol.
Keymod attachments are supposed to have an integrated recoil lug that presses against the back of the slot when locked in place (per the keymod specs,) it isn't held by the nut alone. Although some cheaper mfgs have neglected to include this in their keymod accessories, no doubt a contributing factor to keymods decline. Twangnbang has an excellent video showing how it actually works. I agree though, that picatinny remains the best attachment method.
I have to go with mlok, more easy side attachments, even picatinny adapters. The better mlok attachments grab two different holes and cannot slide once the screws are in.
Does anyone else remember when EVERY AR15 attachment had to have picatinny rail on it Scope mounts had rail on the sides of the rings, on top of the rings..etc... Some optics had picatinny rail on them, Buttstocks had rail on it, sections could be added to an A2 sight. and so on.. My how times have changed. Now we need m-lok handguards longer than the barrel itself and optic mounts with 2" risers.
Picatinny looks alot cooler....those skinny mlok and keymod rails look stupid.....they make your ar15 look like a broomstick ....give me a danial defence picatinny quad rail or give me a old wooden stock m1a scout squad or tanker....but i refuse to carry one of these new skinny rail ar15s...i hate the way they look.
Picatinny is king. Everything else is fine. "Oh but Keymod lost in trials..." Yeah. Really harsh trials where they repeatedly drop their Firearm from 6 ft directly into mounting surfaces... So unless you're a dumb@$$ or *actually* a deployed operator WHICH WE'RE ALL NOT, all mounting methods are fine.
I love your videos. Thank you for the great info. Im not trying to cause any issues but You realize that’s not a genuine Atlas correct? Like I said thou I don’t want to cause any problems, I just wanted to be sure you know it’s a clone, it’s a good one but a clone non the less.
ALL HAIL QUAD RAIL!
Hehehe ha
Your Right It Goes In The Square Hole.

I agree picitanny is the best. Damn cheese graters get caught on everything though.

"You need a torque wrench"
I think "need" is a strong word

CatofTailsNine agreed...they did cheap out on them.

God how true is this! Of the dozen ars I have, my go to is still my classic a2.
@@G2niverse Love it, keep thing simple. Mine is a 2005 Bushmaster with an aimpoint,
Picatinny top rail with MLOK. Love my BCM MCMR. Never had any issues with things coming loose.
Thanks, now I understand the difference :)
No problem!
@@G2niverse same here, very good breakdown throughout the video.
Great video, thanks.
edit: EXTREMELY helpful video.

MLok because it was that or an AR with a plastic pic rail.
Dom Sow ewww plastic pic rail? no sir.
@@G2niverse exactly lol. It was a super budget build that still cost $500+ mid covid. I went with a zrodelta
Great video brother. Can you convert M-Lok to Picatinny ?
Ya, there all kinds of rail mods for M-Lok to Picatinny
Picatinny is king. Everything else is fine.

Thanks Rob Hodge for being a subscriber...love hearing from you guys! And yeah, its really personal preference...
Is that a green screen you're working over? The contrast between your hands and the background has that green screen 'edge' to it.
No, not for this video. I have used green screens in the past, but not for tutorials.
@@G2niverse Just curious.
By the way, it was a good video. You answered the question that I searched.

Oh yeah, did a review on it.
Let me know when you want to get ride of that old keymod ar-9. Lol
lol not anytime soon!
