Rescuing Bees With A Chainsaw At The Zoo!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 вер 2014
- Watch as JP the bee man removes a colony of honey bees from a downed tree at the New Orleans, Audubon Zoo.
JP uses smoke, bee repellent & a chainsaw to access & transfer the colony into domestic bee equipment.
Everything went pretty smoothly & the bees were very gentle.
JP is a professional bee removal expert whose home base is Metairie, Louisiana but will travel anywhere within reason for bee work.
Before spraying a honey bee colony consider the fact that honey bees pollinate more than 30% of the fruits & vegetables we consume.
They are very important & beneficial, so if you have a bee situation please call someone such as JP to safely remove them from your property.
Thanks for visiting my channel & hope you are having a fantastic day! - Розваги
I live in California but I could totally spend every day with you lol. I'm a 48 year old man that's fascinated with honey bees and your finesse with these little girls is incredible.
Over on your left is our 'crazy bearded man with bees' exhibit
Lol Wil
I love these videos. I saw a show once where someone had a long-term honeybee hive in their roof. They brought in exterminators. Exterminators!! I was horrified that the whole colony was destroyed! I love watching you, not harming the bees, but re-nesting and relocating them. And it seems amazing to me that you do this without a bee suit most of the time. Wow. Thank you JP. Great work!
Thank you for taking the time to watch the videos Teresa, your feedback is much appreciated!
If the exterminators were professionals, they should have taken one look at the bee hive and called a bee remover. Killing a bee hive is wantonly irresponsible.
@@tealkerberus748 I'm not sure about that. My exterminator hates the fact that he has to check my yard and I have bees. I even had to request a new exterminator because he kept requesting that I close my hive when he's there.. so I called the company talked to a few people and got a new exterminator that is very nice. Note I only treat for termites.
JP you're a master of your trade. I watch your videos on a regular basis from here in Taipei. The only people that do what you do here are the aboriginals. They're still in touch with the earth where others have drifted away. I would love to be your apprentice one day. Keep on keepin on!
Wow, thank you!
I want to be like JP. It seems he loves his work and life. You're a good man. I believe that from your videos. You should be famous!!
Thank you for your awesome videos! I have learned so much from watching. Learned that I wish I was younger & I would raise some honey bees, they are so loyal & loving 🥰
Your videos are always interesting. Watching you as you work is so cool . The true love you have for 🐝 comes through . You take such good care to ensure the 🐝 best interest are taken care of . Thank you again for saving this colony of 🍯 🐝 .
Great video JP! I love every single one of your videos. Thanks for a wonderful video, and lots of entertainment. She was indeed a beauty!
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Thanks JP😎❣️
Aren't bees just the coolest critters? You're fun to watch, sir. Great vids...
They are insanely cool insects indeed!
Nice bees and a beauty queen, results in a happy JP. Thanks for the video! :)
Fascinating, JP. Also, it makes me wonder if there might be a market different colors of honey made naturally by honey bees.
I love that southern hospitality! Makes me wish I lived down there sometimes! Keep u the good work!
Awesome! I am looking forward to watching more of your videos. I am a second-year urban beekeeper with 2 hives. I hope to be as relaxed and confident working with the bees as you are. I would probably get stung less!
More videos coming Laura, stay tuned! Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for sharing JP! Like how you made a 'bee-drive' towards the set-up.
Youre the best JP, I really enjoy your videos, keep it up!
Thank you Acidman
I like how you always try an find the Queen
Another fantastic video! Thank you.
Great video JP. It seemed like it took a far while to get all those bees in the box. Sure was a big hive.
New here love your work keep the videos coming .
Another enjoyable video...thank you for sharing...looking forward to the next one...
Going to be putting the next one together real soon!
Excellent as always.
The Honey Be Gone saved my butt this afternoon too. I can't do without that stuff on removals.
Little tip: always smoke first (not you, the bees :-)} before using bee repellant
Did you manage to save any of their brood comb this time? Or where they just happy to get the new box that had comb already in it?
I enjoy these videos man. You're A Badass.
Did you use lemongrass to help attract the bees into the box? I've done a few jobs out of trees very similar to this where you just want to run them to the box using beequick, and they did the same thing, piled up under the box, hesitant to go in. Just the other day I accidentally released the queen after I had caught and caged her. There were a lot of bees still trying to hang out around the cavity in the floor joists, so I put lemongrass all over the outside of my box and smoked the crap out of the ones in the joists. In 15 minutes they were all settling on the box, telling me the queen was highly likely to be inside.
Nice job with the bird sound effects. Really sets the stage.
Lol Wil, no sound effects used, those are real birds making all that racket, a Macaw & a Hornbill
बहुत अच्छे सर जी मैं आपकी वीडियो को देखता रहता हूं
3 people on the bird zoo bus lol.
This channel is so addicting and relaxing. Love it.
I am just getting into starting my adventures in beekeeping
Great cut out, well played sir!!!
Thanks for taking the time to watch Jason!
How much work do you do for this Zoo? It seems you're here all the time! Also, what do you think of wasps?
I've watched most of your videos and am amazed by your work. The only thing I'd like to see is where you bring the bees after you get them boxed up
JP the bee Whisperer
So I'm planning on starting keeping bees in the spring, can not begin to express how helpful your videos are on how to act with the bees, any advice you could give me about getting started like what equipment is absolutely needed and where to get bees from would be greatly appreciated
Nice video JP! I miss the Milkshake man in it too! How is Shawee going? His birthday will be coming soon, right?
Best regards from Portugal!
Not sure when his birthday is, will have to ask him, you gonna send him a shake? :-)
I think without Bees most vegetation would've been impossible.
keep up the great work man!!! very educational!! found out about you from Opie and Anthony and been a fan ever since!!!!
Thanks for your feedback Tim, really appreciate it!

What do you do with all the Bees you catch? Keep them?
Keep them, sell them, donate them to close friends.
JPthebeeman I would love to be a close friend of yours :))
What is in the honey bee gone ? What does it do to the bees ? Love your videos !
Leta Terrell I don’t know what’s in honeybgone, I’m told all natural ingredients but the ingredient it does not contain is butyric acid which is a terrible product in honey robber & bee go.
All bee repellents are designed to move bees. You don’t want to spray it on the bees however, that could kill them.
Your good with that saw. How do you keep the chain clean while cutting all that hoeny comb.
The key is to do your best to avoid cutting into the hive itself, you kind of feel your way as you go & of course inspect as you proceed to ensure you're not cutting into the colony. If there is a hive inside of a tree, there is a void for them to be there in the first place. Once you cut through the outer bark, you usually can feel the saw give as you hit that sweet spot where the bark & the void meet
How do you prevent them from stinging you so much? I would be tore up.
Gentle bees & I use my smoker to keep me out of trouble.
Is it really hard to find the Queen?
Yup. She usually tries very hard to hide. JP usually finds a queen only after he's removed almost ALL of the other bees.
whichity grub or similar. Found in acacias(Wattle, Blackwood etc.) in Australia
Some many bees
JP when you find a hive like that full of hive beetles like that one. How do you avoid getting the hive beetles inside the hive box when you move the bies
Kim Guldberg hive beetles are really only a problem (in my area) if the hive is super weak & cannot effectively prevent the beetles from going ballistic with their egg laying.
A colony that has too much space/comb & not enough bees to deal with said space/comb is a good recipe for a serious beetle issue.
Sometimes you may for whatever reason have to condense the amount of space the bees are living in to allow them to successfully defend themselves against a major beetle infestation.
The easiest way to do this is to simply remove any extra boxes bees are not utilizing or even in some instances when numbers are really down moving the bees into a nucleus set up.
So that’s the long answer to your question.
The short answer is: yes, some beetles get transferred when you move the bees from one location to the next but unless there are literally hundreds of beetles in the hive I’m dealing with which is extremely rare (in my area) I’m not worried about beetles.
In conclusion, beetles are never really an issue unless you have a super weak hive that cannot deal with them effectively or it was a big hive that swarmed multiple times & now there’s a ton of comb but not enough bees to effectively prevent beetles from laying in all that extra space.
Hope this offers some clarity.
Thank you for taking the time to view my videos, appreciate that!
Thanks for answering on a video this old. Appriciate it and good answer. Let natur work instead of resorting to chemestry
Kim Guldberg I’m definitely not a fan of creating super parasites so yes, I believe in allowing bees to do whatever they can to remediate a situation.
Happy New Year to you!
@@JPthebeeman Thanks and you too
What is the song at the ending of the video?
bax1231 Aerosmith-Dream On
Thanks! It was fun watchin the video!
Can anyone tell me where the music is from or what the song is called??
I watch these videos while I'm supposed to be studying and that music is perfect!!! :)
Alone In Kyoto by "Air"
Thank you!! :)
You are quite welcome!
hey great video :) whats the name of the song at around 7 minutes
+MRsmartiesnatcher alone in kyoto - air :D
ZZIKOish haha thanks man glad someone finally got back to me :D
no problem! it's a beautiful song :)
He JP, are there a of of squirrels in honey island swamp? Squirrel and birds/reptiles are all I care about hunting. Also how much of the swamp is actually bog? Is there a good amount of dry solid land to walk on?
A very good population of squirrels. Pretty walkable unless bombarded with rain storms, sloughs can fill up reasonably fast, but then you wear hip boots. Geaux for it, but bring you a GPS if you're going in deep
JPthebeeman thanks!
JPthebeeman What GPS would you recommend for someone who has never used a portable GPS before? Or just someone who isnt very bright in general.. lol
I just purchased Garmin's Oregon 600T on sale & subscribed to their Birds Eyeview satellite imagery maps, so far, I really like it!
中国要翻墙看,好慢好慢啊!
I am sick of seeing ads for The Epoch Times and their Partisan spin.
Can I borrow your awesome beard for my date with this pretty lady? I need to impress her and your beard is the best
Of course you may! Please tell her hello for me :-)
Hey no fair why don't bees get to stay at a zoo.. how to turn that job down on principal..hahhahahah
They were redoing the Capybara exhibit so they had to be transferred away. Not everyone enjoys being around an active bee colony, go figure. 🤪✌️🐝
@@JPthebeeman well I have to say you seem to enjoy it a bit more than most I still have to have on my suit. But I'm also in the slightly allergic department. if I get stung for instance on the forearm my whole forearm swells up or if in my hand all my hand in a part of my forearm. So better being safe for me. However I do love my bees.
@@td4190 if you swell up severely on regular occasion you need to be very careful as you could be at risk for a severe reaction down the road. ✌️🐝
