I feel like this is why people love Spidey and Batman so much. Because you can relate to the darkness that Batman feels, or more accurately even the depression he feels and the drive to make change, and you’re inspired by the action he takes and resolve he has. With Spidey hes relatable for reasons we all understand, and he inspires you to take great responsibility with the power youre given.

DC > Marvel (I am more of a Marvel fan because of Thanos, Magneto, and Dr Doom)
As a Marvel fan, I admit DCEU has more potential than MCU but Warner Brothers ruined it. Not only DC is better than Marvel in terms of power scaling and cosmology, obviously with more powerful characters. DC is also better than Marvel and also in terms of potential, being more popular (Batman is the most popular superhero, with Superman second, and Spider-Man third), better characters, writing, stories, movies, animations, shows / tv series, cartoons, and comics, or basically anything else.

    • @creeperkinght1144

I've always seen DC and Marvel as equals, despite going with different philosophies of what it means to be a hero. DC tend to focus on the natural result of someone or something being deities amongst mortals or someone who stands above humanity or at least the concept of it, both good and evil. Marvel on the other hand, tends to look at powers and abilities one have as a gift or a curse, and the responsibilities that come with the package, and what consequences one can have on those close to you. They both have these qualities, but one franchise focus on their main aspect than the other, which isn't bad, but rather interesting. They take different paths to similar ideas. Even with how they manage to organize connections between characters, especially with teams, like the Justice League, Teen Titans, The Avengers, The New Warriors, and so on, and how they deal with other, and their perspective of the morality of being someone who holds the value of being a hero.@@codeck4442

Spot on. Good characters come in two types: relatable and admirable. Relatable characters are usually riddled with flaws. They start out imperfect and then continue to grow throughout the story. They inspire people by saying that you can change and better yourself too. On the other hand are admirable characters like James Bond, Superman, or even Katniss Everdeen. We don't learn from these characters by seeing how they change; we learn by seeing them as a role model. I prefer the admirable character more than relatable since they're almost always more badass.

Supetman wasn't exactly jumping for joy when he snapped Zod's neck, there was a want to put him in a moral quandary next to where he was already in a moral quandary over doubt within himself and wanting to help people.

      - Batman repeatedly murdered criminals in the first two Tim Burton movies and the two Joel Schumacher movies.
      - Superman killed characters in the 2nd Richard Donner movie and the 4th Christopher Reeve movie.
Fans forgive those movies for doing the very things they've put Snyder's movies down for.
If all of the live action movies were held to the same regard, then there has never been a truly good live action adaptation of these characters, unless you count the George Reeves or Adam West versions of these characters.
These criminal minions put themselves in harm's way and a few are probably going to get killed or crippled. If you and others can't get over that yet wanna preach at people I don't know what to tell you outside I've gotten tired of being called stupid for liking Snyder's movies often enough, I kinda hope DC goes belly up financially.
As far as wanting something at least a little serious from a DC Comics movie, I don't particularly want Krypto in a Superman movie.

I love DC for this exact reason, and hate how under utilized so much of the mythos built around it has become, and why I hate when people say that heroes who do good just for the sake of doing good are "bad" or "boring", because they miss the point of why those characters exist in the first place.
Marvel is a good reminder that no one is perfect. DC is a good reminder of why we all try to be in the first place. Not because we need to be perfect, but because we can rise above what anyone or anything else would expect us to be.
That's why some of the characters who are the most loved heroes of all, regardless of brand, are the ones who both inspire what it means to be a hero and why it's worth it, and also show how it's not an easy path for ANYONE, like Batman or Spider-Man.
I think they could learn a lot from each other, just like we can learn a lot from them.
I often think that if Marvel heroes lived in the same world as DC heroes, they'd probably be smaller scale than them, since they're like a mid point between the peaks of heroic ideals in DC, and the realities of daily life.
I could easily see one interaction crystal clear in my mind, where Spider-Man and Superman could just talk with each other, and bond over their shared ideals, where Clark could give Peter tips on how to manage the balance between family and hero work, and Peter would probably help Clark lighten up and not come across as stiff, the world's two favorite Red and Blue heroes standing next to each other would be a powerful image no matter what they were doing, I could even see Peter taking Clark to his favorite pizza place and just chatting about the good things in life, or even funnier, have them giving talks in schools to help the community, and have them both detect a crime in progress, only for Clark to resolve it in a matter of seconds and just have Pete drop a funny line about "And that kids, is why you stay in school-"
What makes a super hero fall on it's face flatter than anything, is when it misses the point of why they exist and what they truly mean.
Superman has inspired everyone, from that 21 year old in 2023 who struggled with constantly increasing pressure to grow in a chaotic and changing world, to kids in the 1940s who didn't know if the world as they knew it would end in war.
Anyone who doesn't have respect for that history and thinks that heroes are "childish things that need to be gritty and more mature to reflect the horrible realities of the real world" don't know what the fuck they're talking about, and should stay out of the super hero business.
Plenty of heroes face all the same nightmares that we do, maybe even more. The difference is, they choose to rise above it, and make things better for everyone, than being selfish and looking out for only themselves.

I agree with most of what you're saying... but this rejection of the gritty and realistic is really just you holding on to the image of what the world and your heroes once were... there is no reason why heroes can't be realistic and still inspirational... it's makes them even more inspirational when the struggles they rise above are struggles that we recognize... what value does superman's triumph hold of Superman is the only character that can triumph in that situation can you really be inspired by someone winning a battle they could never really lose... there's a reason why DC comics today are more focused on relatability... why they go out of their way to explain the convictions that make heroes do what they do... saying that people who want their heroes grittier and more realistic have no understanding of comics is just gate keeping bullshvt...

    • @Dmobley9901
      @Dmobley9901 Рік тому +3

@@joshuaohuka7719 I don't think you understood my point. I'm saying the exact same thing, I'm not gatekeeping. I like darker and grittier stories just as much as the next person, but my issue is with a group of people who believe that should be the ONLY flavor of comics, at the expense of character growth and integrity. I think we need more stories where heroes are still allowed to be heroic in dark and gritty situations.
The point of Batman and the Joker for example, has never been that they're the same, it's that Joker believes that anyone could be one horrible event from being just like him, Batman's argument, is repeatedly proving him wrong, and showing that even in the darkest of nights, we can still CHOOSE to be better. The issue I have is that people are starting to believe more and more that the villains are the ones who are right, the world itself is becoming more jaded, and as such, people are starting to ridicule things they view as optimistic and idealistic, they say things like "Superman is a boring, overpowered hero", and it misses the point of those "idealistic" characters.
People start becoming bitter and confrontational, they start slipping into those "darker" aspects and even glorifying them because, if we're being honest, the world can be quite shit and unfair at times.
But that's what I love about heroes, they stare into that abyss on a daily basis, and they don't let it change or corrupt them.
What makes characters like Batman and Superman special to me, isn't even their abilities or what they can do, it's their humanity that so often gets forgotten because of how "simple" it is.
It's the little things, like Batman comforting a dying child by just being there for them, or Superman stopping to talk to a suicidal teen on top of a building, and treating them like they're the only thing that matters in the entire city to him for that one moment.
So no, I don't have an issue with "darker and grittier comics", I have an issue with writers and people who think that in the face of the genuine worst that the world has to offer, that a hero would break, or give up, or become jaded, or become radicalized.
There's nothing wrong with a hero who has weaknesses, but it's getting up and pushing forward for the sake of others that makes them a hero in the first place.
That's why heroes like Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man, stand for Justice, Hope, and Responsibility. Because in a world that can be as dark as theirs, they still know that it's the best they could possibly do.

I find I respect Hal Jordan's battle against great more BECAUSE he's succumbed to parallax before... I think the heroes feel less human the more they hold on to their ideals sometimes... I'm not one of those fans who thinks Batman should kill of his rogues gallery... That's not what Batman is... But it's hard to say that to someone like Clown hunter whose parents died after Batman specifically promised to do something about the Joker... I think maybe comics should do a little more to explain the why of the struggle cause as you said... the world can be a pretty unfair place... The only DC characters I find inspiring are characters like The Flash (Barry Allen), Saint "Bro' Dee" Walker, Green Lantern (Harold "Hal" Jordan), Green/White Lantern (Kyle Rayner), Booster Gold, Robin (Damian Wayne) and Nightwing (Richard "Dick" Grayson). But that's only seven out of thousands of DC characters. However, I don't relate to characters like Cosmic Ghost Rider or Professor X from Marvel Comics, but I find characters like them inspiring. The characters I find inspiring are Nova (Richard Rider), Darkhawk (Christopher Powell), Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd), Cosmic Ghost Rider (Frank Castle), Star-Lord (Peter Quill), Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner), Cyclops (Scott Summers), Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Cable (Nathan Summers), Deadpool (Wade Wilson), Professor X (Charles Xavier), and alot more. Of course, even if I extend it, it's only a few (about 40-60 characters) out of thousands. The DC related characters I find inspiring the most is characters from The Electromagnetic Spectrum (Green, Blue, Violet, ect Lanterns), The Flash family and Batman's children, while the Marvel related characters I find inspiring the most are literally almost all characters with a great story & character development.
Now I'm not saying I don't agree with you or your opinion sucks, I'm just saying that Marvel has more inspiring characters than DC.
What DC Comics got better than Marvel Comics, because of their storyline & plot. While what Marvel Comics got better than DC Comics, is their characters & development.
I must say there is no superior or inferior one of the two.

I feel like one of the main reasons i prefer DC is the fact that I feel that the struggles the chracters go through are more relatable because the struggles are more human and real. Some if not most of the struggles boil down to the character trying to be human. DC is gods among men and Marvel is more men among gods. And from a narrative stand point its easier to relate to a god trying to be human than it is a human trying to be godly. Plus a lot of the villains in DC even have some level of understanding such as Mr. Freeze, or even in justice league unlimited with Flash talking to Trickster, you see an actual heart to heart moment between to humans with one struggling with something any viewer could be going through.

It's interesting you say that, because I feel inspired by the like's of Captain American (do what's right, regardless), Iron Man (think before you do, then do it well), and DareDevil (don't fear your handicaps; embrace them; conquer them; then realize their asset) than I do anyone from DC.
That being said, turning power into humility and trauma into virtue (Supe's and Bat's) is quite inspiring.

*For me* (I had to put that in bold because people don’t know how opinions work these days), growing up as a Marvel kid, I’d say Marvel has its share of doing both.
Take a character like Spider-Man. To me, he’s mostly relatable, in the sense that he wasn’t always the guy that got the girl, and as Peter Parker he is a young man trying to find his way. Where the inspiration comes in is that, he always strive to be a better man. He fights for those that are seen as vulnerable and he tends to hold himself responsible, just as his uncles mantra wishes for him to do. When it comes to his enemies, he isn’t always the strongest but sometimes in a fight, it isn’t about your physical strength or coming up with contingency plans but having the heart and endurance to keep going. To me, nothing is more inspirational than that.

I personally prefer Marvel, because their heroes are indeed relatable, but at the same time, they’re pushing to be something more- I recall the ‘motto’ for Spider-Man PS4 “be greater”. They’re humans, but they’re trying to be more, and I feel for that reason Marvel is better. Their characters are grounded yet inspiring at the same time. Except Spider-Man comics right now… screw Paul, and screw what the editors are smoking…

I personally like to be inspired but being realistic to relate to something feels better and that’s what you are gravitated to and that’s why I prefer marvel even tho I love DC. But I prefer to relate to something like even the scarlet witch is a very relatable character through her pain and her grief and all she been through.

Damn bruh, never thought of that. I like DC more than Marvel. I never could describe why, i always thought it was because DC characters feel Godlike vs Marvel but you helped me realize it's because they do inspire me more. Superman who has the strength to take anything he wants yet he is not a Tyrant. He uses his strength to help others. I grew up in a toxic household where I had father figures use fear and bullying tactics to control. This has lead me to hate abuse of power. Yet, now that I'm a man who has the physical strength and very good paying job, Superman inspires me to use this to help my loved ones and strangers when I am able to and never use it to hurt others. He also inspires me to have a moral code and to set myself boundaries and lines to never cross
