There was actually another radio-themed Creepypasta for New Vegas. The short version was that visiting Lone Wolf Radio outside of Goodsprings would start an unmarked quest, where if you met certain requirements would activate a hidden radio station during certain times at night. On it the titular "Lone Wolf" could be heard killing NPC's in the game; adult ones at first, but eventually child NPC's. The Courier could follow clues from the broadcast to track him down and either stop him, or join him and unlock a hidden "child killer" perk.
Reminds me of the one morrowind story where the game is cursed in the way that you are being hunted by this NPC that slowly corrupts the game. Certain essential npcs will be killed, thus trapping you in an impossible to complete game. Travel in all forms will be glitched, and you will find that important roads are now just bottomless pits. And if you ever get caught by this scuttling assassin npc who crawls on all fours, climbing over characters and buildings, then your game will be bricked.
I think a cool thing a big mod project should do is try to actually make the numbers station a real thing, but instead of referencing things in the real world it just references things in the fallout world up until the great war. Like that'd be cool, no?
I think my favorite theory about numbers stations is that they're actually just random garbage meant to trick surveillance agencies into trying to decrypt sense out of nonsense and wasting valuable time. Put some old radio equipment in a tower, have some guy record himself saying a bunch of random numbers, and play it on loop - your enemies will waste years trying to figure it out. Bethesda doing something similar in the Fallout games would be hilarious. Just put this random creepy easter egg in, make it super obscure and difficult to trigger, and then make the fanbase spend the next several years trying to figure out what it all means, when in reality it never meant anything at all.
It would be really fun to recreate this as a genuine mod and have it make new predictions, adjust the queens death date and message to match correctly, give it real conditions to occur, etc. Erik Todd Dellums is notably not restricted by VA Union contracts so he is available for work on mods.
awwwww man, i thought the fallout creepypasta was gonna be about Charon.exe who commands you to be his house servant irl if you keep commanding him in fallout 3 to take bullets for you
Off topic, how tf did it take me to see a creepypasta video to learn that you could boost the gnr signal across the map through a questline?!? I’ve been playing this game however long & I’m just now finding this out! I just thought it was permanently fucked😂😭😭
I remember this absolute classic when The Sticky Paddle made a video on it a decade ago. Thank you for reminding me of this, bro. It brings back good memories.
Sticky Paddle was actually the network sorta thing that the real creator, Mullet Mike, made videos under. He reuploaded most of them to his channel after he was booted because of TSP deciding to remove him because he wasnt gaming, from what I remember
GOATED HALLOWEEN EPISODE I remember the GNR number station pasta from when I was younger, it spooked me but I wasn't into Fallout as much back then. I genuinely hope we see more (good) Fallout creepypasta someday, it's an untapped market if you ask me. Am a huge fan of your JVK video and was awesome to hear you read another creepypasta. I binged watch drb0sch for this video, and yeah it is amazing to be honest. Really looking forward to how it continues in the future. Awesome video, happy Halloween!
number stations are probably just frequencies that gov'ts want to reserve for whatever purpose so they fill it with random shit so radio stations won't use them since they've already been occupied with noise.
Nice background eerie music, reminds me of an italian videogames related youtube channel called Parliamo di Videogiochi, they have this series called creepygames that used this exact soundtrack, and also did cover the Numbers Station creepypasta like 13 years ago. Cool stuff man, really brought me back in 8th grade
Interesting video. I had tried to narrate this one a while back but it personally didn’t resonate with me. Thanks for sharing this with me, I already knew the topic but it’s cool seeing your take on it.
I know Im 12 days past Halloween for this but, eck. Man, I remember being a real sucker thinking the number stations was real for years until I finally went looking into it for my own closure. Felt pretty dumb, but hey, it aint the first time a creepypasta or fake easter egg fooled me. Nice read btw, you got a knack for doing creepy readings. I know you do a bit of VA, but it was rather captivating, you should do more.
I FUCKING LOVE FALLOUT 3 NUMBERS STATION !!! always glad to see this creepypasta get some love, especially drb0sch. you described it best, "fallout 3 numbers station walked so drb0sch could run". it really feels like an evolution to that creepypasta, not to mention numbers stations are a part of the series.
Honestly I liked this one up to the mildly amusing real world references. Wish they wouldn't pull that. On to Fallout unfiction, have you heard of Auger's Quest for Fallout 2?
I hate that every creepypasta about predictions always ends with "oh no, catastrophe that may or may not have something to do with humanity will kill us all!"
I remember exploring fallout 3 as a kid and got to a certain hill in the game where there was a weird kinda creepy Chinese broadcast you could pick up where it had Morse code or something. Idk if I'm remembering that right but I remember being incredibly freaked out and had to stop playing that specific save because of how scared I got. Idk where it is or if I can find it again, And if I'm correct I thought there was some kind of creepypasta based off that radio station too but I could be wrong. It was on my ps3 so there weren't any mods or anything and I also had the normal game not the goty edition one EDIT: Just looked it up and apparently it was a downed Chinese pilot radio beacon. Couldn't remember because everytime I played fallout 3 after that moment I had never found the station again so I thought it was either just something my little kid brain misremembered or just something completely strange that happened
I think what makes it effective at tricking people despite it being obviously fake in hindsight is how matter-of-fact and mundane the explanation is. It sounds like a convoluted Easter egg that could potentially be hidden in an actual game. In addition, it is explained without certainty on how to specifically trigger it aside from some consistent prerequisites.
You talk about the inherrent ridiculousness of the numbers station, but forgot to mention something that makes it way more believable. The devs just trolling. I as a kid thought this was real, not in the sense that I believed the predictions, but that I though the devs put random messages and numbers into the game as a meme to mess with people, while giving it a nice creepy aesthetic.
Could anyone seeing this comment recommend me some creepypastas are on the verge of urban legend like this one? Something that’s scary but sounds 100% plausible. THANKS!
Halloween is basically the Celtic month of November in our respective languages it is the entire month people think it's a one day celebration. but we would have called it something instead of naming it after the entire month if it wasn't supposed to be the entire month and it's still November k Tachwedd Samhain. Halloween likely began in the Boyne valley and spread to Wales from their and throughout the rest of the Celtic world. the Spanish brought it to Mexico solidifying it as the oldest global holiday predating anything else by thousands of years. Unless Diwali suddenly becomes a global holiday it doesn't look signs of changing India Africa an Australia are the only places on earth with older traditions.
With how effective the story is at making you think it COULD be real i do wonder why nobody has made a mod about it yet Jusy think about it. You kill one too many people in DC/New Vegas, make a few little evil decisions, (Probably randomize them so there's no defined path which would help the weird factor) then suddenly when you turn on GNR or RNV their hosts voices go monotone and spout random numbers at you, would lowk scare ts out of me even if ik i modded it in my game

@snowycity I kind of liked the new Vegas one centered around a radio host that kills kids. It's not as plausible but still somewhat plausible since Bethesda did make content centered around killing kids.
