The group - ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT - TENNESSEE .. Dionne kills the vocals on that track!
I wish Arrested Development was drown out by Gangsta Rap, Grunge and Country. They were such an amazing group.
@@aaronlevitz4984They're doing a tour this fall with the Pharcyde & Digable Planets! Check your local listings.
I wish they'd react to "People Everyday" by A.D. such a banger!
love that song, Mr Wendel also was a good song.
I WISH Y'ALL WOULD NOT REQUEST CRAPPY SONGS!
This song was a moment in 90's music history ❤
This was her biggest solo hit but the true fans know she was amazing with Arrested Development who I HIGHLY recommend if you havn't checked them out yet; they were part of that sublime early-90s time when a part of hip-hop got infused with jazz and melodies with groups like Arrested Development, Diggable Planets, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul
Yes!!
THIS!!!!!
I second this.
Love Tennessee and Mr. Wendel
Oh my God., I had no idea that was her!!! Thanks so much for the info👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽✌🏽
She was a vocalist with rap group Arrested Development, featured on TENNESSEE, which is a GREAT SONG that y’all should do.
Yep... Dionne kills it on that song! Just wrote this! :)
hip hop not rap
Another good song from Dionne Farris is Hopeless
Like a penny with a hole in it
I love her song Hopeless
Love Jones ❤
CLASSIC MATERIAL
Desiree's Gotta Be is along this same vein. She also did a duet with Terrence Trent D'Arby called Delicate. Terrance goes by a different name now.
If you pause this video at 1:45, the guy facing the camera is William Duvall. He's not only the co-writer of the song, but also replaced Layne Staley in Alice In Chains.
OMG I REMEMBER THIS!! Holy crap the memories flooding back. Thank you.
YES!!!
OMG! Clicked the thumbs-up button before even watching. Amber your reaction had me in tears. What a CLASSIC!!
YESS!!! I remember asking my parents for this on cassette single (*aging myself*) when this song came out! She has another song "HOPELESS" from the Love Jones soundtrack that is beautiful! Dionne was a part of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT and I beg you to please get back to them soon! Especially their album "3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of..." such an underrated masterpiece!! Love y'all - keep smiling!!
I had this song on cassette single too!
Wow, haven't heard this song in a hot minute. Great 90s song.
Me too.
Y'all.... just put on the entire Love Jones soundtrack! Her song Hopeless starts it off and it's amazing!
The 90s were a great decade for killer songs.
this song has been on my playlist since it was released. ;-) 1995...... love, love, love it.
@@floyd2222on mines too!!
I guess they must have come out around the same time, because I almost always think of this song when I hear Des'ree's "You Gotta Be" and vice versa for three decades now. No outside associations with either, just the two, different as the vibes are, for a long time now.
70s Also WE WIL ROCK YOU By Queen 1975 More than a feeling Boston 1976 ToTo Hold the line 1978 . Da ya think im Sexy Rod Stewart 1978 ,Bhomen Rhapsiody By Queen 1975 ,Can i Get a fantstic 70s were GREAT,
This video was played multiple times a day on MTV and VH1 in 1995. That same year, the video earned Farris the Billboard Music Video Awards Best Pop/Rock New Artist Clip of the Year.
You can never be in a bad mood while listening to this.
Omg I love this song, bringing me back 🥰
I forgot about this song. I'm glad someone suggested it. Haven't heard it in years.
Same here.
Love the slide guitar in these one, so artfully arranged into the music!
I love this song! The harmonies are absolutely beautiful. This has always been a great song. I'm songlad that I grew up listening to this as an adult. Keep digging in those crates, there's so much untapped classics that y'all have not scratched the surface of yet.
Yes!!! Thank you so much for playing one of my favorite 90s songs! Glad you loved it, and super glad it unlocked a core memory for you, Amber. It does the exact same thing for me: Transports me back to my parents’ car in the mid-90s.
I love Dionne Farris and 90's music!
I love Ms Dionne Farris. My favorite song by Her is "Hopeless"
🥶
great tune! Can listen to it over and over and over and over...Peace to All. 🙂
I loved this song, but I really really loved her in the group Arrested Development. Try their hit "Tennessee" to start with ☮️
OH MY GOSH!!!! I haven’t heard this in years!! My kids were babies when this came out and I remember riding around with them, they’d be in their car seats behind me and this song would come on the radio….ahhhhh the memories!!!!
Dionne Farris has a great voice and she is so adorable, too. Underrated.
How lucky to have such an amazing mom, and to be able to have memories like that…❤
My sister would play this song as she drove me to elementary school and my brother and herself to HS. Another song is Aretha Franklin - who's zoomin who and Take That's - back to good.
Another song by Dionne is 'Hopeless' from the Love Jones movie soundtrack.
Actually, the song, Hopeless was on the soundtrack to the underrated, but critically acclaimed romantic comedy-drama film, Love Jones.
@@Eric4471066 Thanks, I'll correct it.
So glad to see one I've been requesting. I'm sure I haven't been the only one. You guys should check out her vocals in "Tennessee" with Arrested Development.
Future Female Friday songs:
1. Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield (food for the soul, Amber)
2. You Gotta Be by Des'ree (food for the soul)
3. I'm Like A Bird by Nelly Furtado
4. Baby Come To Me by Regina Belle
This song is still addictive!
Jay there was so much good music in the 90s, I mean Club bangers and even alot of hip-hop didn't have cursing going on.. I have 90s playlist's that would blow your mind, fast and slow.. Actually the 90s was the last hurray for Soul and R&B and Rock and Roll..
I had a cassette single of this song with a B-side of the song Human and I wore that dang thing out.
Woo! Y'all have made my night with this one! I didn't grasp the context of this song either as a kid but now with adult ears I love it so much more. "I Know" is the first single from Dionne's debut album, Wild Seed - Wild Flower (1994); it peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 and spent 10 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 40/Mainstream chart, becoming that ranking's most successful song of 1995. Please react to Dionne Farris - "Hopeless" and Arrested Development - "Tennessee."
I’m sorry, how is it possible that this song was the most successful song of 1995, when Mariah Carey’s One Sweet Day was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks, and that record wasn’t broken until Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road ?
@@adnap *that ranking's most successful song of 1995* meaning the Billboard Top 40/Mainstream chart, not the Hot 100. Most successful song of 1995 on the Billboard Top 40/Mainstream.
@@eskayh7734 I see. Thanks for clearing up the confusion.
This song was everywhere! The album was pretty good, she does a cover of The Beatles "Blackbird," and a song called "Human" which is pretty great as well.
"Hopeless" is another great song by Dionne Farris.
In a Facebook group someone commented that she was curious about what Dionne was up to, and that she (the commenter) hadn't heard anything from her since "Hopeless." I pointed out this song, which I love. Her reaction? "Well... I don't know if I have time to sit down and listen to some country music." ? 🤯 You wondered what Dionne was up to. Does it *not matter* because it's not R&B? Which was exactly what Amber was talking about. BTW it's Southern rock, not country.
Yes!! One of my all time favorites! Dionne is/was so underrated. Please react to her song "Hopeless". It's another hit of hers and is on the soundtrack to the movie "Love Jones", which I would LOVE for y'all to react to on your movie channel.
Wow, haven't heard this in a looong time ... I remember hearing back then that she was named after Dionne Warwick.
What a beautifully controlled voice. Woweee
Dont forget Billie Miles, "Kiss the Rain" (yes, I know you already reacted to her) is another 90's alternative song by a woman of color.
Ah that is such an amazing song!
Check out Hopeless, one of the songs on the soundtrack for the movie Love Jones. Dionne Farris did that song also. Love Jones - top movie of the 90's
I forgot how great this song is. Haven’t heard it in forever.
When we were coming out of the 80 s we were looking for trend setters in a changing period of music history. I fell instantly in love with Dionne Farris. She was cute, a great songstress, part of a new up and coming sound. I also loved the way she dressed. Trendy all the way. Loved my 70 s and 80 s but I had so many surprises in the 90 s. She was one of those solo and group artists I fell in love with. Check out Arrested Development as well. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Mr. Wendall!
One of my suggestions!...though surely not only mine...guess I'll suggest 25 more female Friday or anyday songs 😌

"Show Me Love" - Robyn (not Robin S. - you did that one)
"100% Pure Love" - Crystal Waters
"Every Day Of The Week" - Jade
"Red Light Special" - TLC
I recommended it too! Thank you for remembering it with me! I was worried they would never get to it haha
Hey Jay & Amber, please check out “Hopeless” by Dionne Farris. That song displays more of her vocal range. She was also a featured singer on the rap group Arrested Development on the song “Tennessee”
She has an amazing voice! She was in a group called Arrested Development! Tennessee showcases her voice! Mr. Wendall is another good song from them!
I didn’t not like this song when it came out but over the years my tune has changed.
I completely forgot about this song. One of faves from the 90s.
Dionne is so versatile. She was the vocalist in Hip Hop group Arrested Development. If you listen closely on TLC’s Baby, Baby, Baby, Dionne is singing most of Chili’s parts. Halle Berry’s man Van Hunt plays the guitar in the video. “Hopeless” is another one of her bangers.
Oh yeah! I remember this one. It's been a while. Nice Band, nice song, great pick Amber!
Another song that reminds me of college. 1995 was fun.
I’ve always loved this song! Awesome!
This is my second favorite song from Dionne Farris; first place has to go to "Don't Ever Touch Me Again." It's rough emotionally, but an incredible song.
Good Choice. Wonderful artist. Love this whole album. 🎵🎶
This song takes me back to when I was a kid during the 90s, good times.
Such a great song, the first time I heard Dionne Farris was with the hip-hop group "Arrested Development" & their song "Tennessee" also check out their song "Mr. Wendal" it's groovalicious!!
First time listening to something this great and your eyes are closed through the whole video, it’s not your first time seeing it.
Love Dionne Farris. I was in my 30s in the 1990s. I love the crossover music from that period like Seal, etc.
So forgive me for asking: Linda Perry is Black?
Haven't heard this in a long time! Thanks y'all!
She has a great vibe
man i love this song! i recall when it came out and i couldn't get enough. such a groove and such a voice!
There's a band opening for Howard Jones and ABC called 'Haircut 100' & I hope you get there early enough to see them, cause they had a couple of hits back in the 80's.
One of which was called "Love Plus One" its a New Wave classic with a very catchy chorus!
I really hope you react to them BEFORE the concert!
If there are any Haircut 100 fans reading this PLEASE, boost this message & get Amber & Jay to react to their music.
It's the bands 1st U.S. tour in 40 years, and they don’t know what they could be missing.
1995 I remember when this came out what a decade now y’all gotta listen to Adina Howard-freak like me
I love this song! Dionne sang with the group Arrested Development! Check out their hits, “Tennessee” and “Everyday People”!❤❤
This has always been one of my favorite songs and I have requested it in the past! Thanks for reacting!
This song hits so hard! Amazing voice and music. It brings back 90s memories.
Her album where this single is from "WILD SEED WILD FLOWER" IS A TRUE 90s CLASSIC check out "PASSION" & "HOPELESS" from the LOVE JONES soundtrack
I recommended the Roachford Cuddle Toy. In the 90s, I would wake up at 5 AM, and MTV would play this video every day at that time. I began to like it.
For some reason back in the 90s this never came across my radar, or if it did it just didn’t stand out. I was into the grunge stuff primarily back then. But now that I’m in my 40’s and rediscovered it, it’s one of my FAVORITE songs! Lol.
I really enjoy the joy in your reactions! I appreciate the positivity!
"Hopeless" is her best song IMO.
Little known fact that Prince was quite infatuated with Dionne. He even has a song called Dionne that was about her.
@@Dave-hb7lx Kim Bassinger, Carma Electra
Quintessential 90s summer jam. Love it!
Soho - Hippychick / Lisette Melendez - Together Forever / Janet Jackson feat. Red Hot Chili Peppers - What'll I Do {Navarro Remix} / Exposé - Seasons Change
Dionne's sing "PASSION" is so phenomenal! (Same goes for Rod Stewart's song of same title). 😊
Yea!!!
This was a classic song .
Amber: You wear the t-shirt, you get the requests: Thin Lizzy -Emerald -Warrior -Black Rose
Jay: You wear the t-shirt, you get the requests: The Beatles -Yesterday -Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band -Norwegian Wood
I love the fact that Dionne Farris offered an opening support band spot on her tour back during the height of this single to a relatively unknown Dave Matthew’s Band, exposing them way beyond their core fan base. This whole album was pretty great, with very funny skits between songs that give the slide guitar its own funny backstory. The album was called Wild Seed Wild Flower and contains a killer version of the Beatles’ Blackbird. Highly recommended listening for you.
I love when you guys remind me of these one hit oneders they were significant at one time
You know, I’ve been looking for the name of this song for 10 years now and it was magically reviewed by you two. Thank you. I forgot how much I love this song.
You need to listen to her song Hopeless from the Love Jones movie soundtrack. Great soundtrack by the way....Lauryn Hill, Minnie Ripperton, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller, Kenny Latimore...
I had this song in my head last month and couldn't remember who sang it or the name of it. Thanks for the reaction.
That was a the time when music had different styles of for everyone . Good times , Good times
Finally! I’ve been requesting and waiting for you to do this jam!
The guys are "killing it" on guitar!
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! Y'all gotta listen to her song "Hopeless" next.
Theres always been black women in rock music. Going back decades. Tina Turner is one of them! And one of the best ones ever.
The beauty of having post notifications on! I'm so glad I got to hear this song with you guys. I'm most def adding it to my playlist!
I love her and this song! She has such a special voice and sound. Love this video, such a great vibe.
Geez, how did I forget about this awesome song?? Love her vocals! This was somewhat of an anthem for me and my friends at the time. They need to play forgotten hits like this one more often on radio. "I Know" was huge in the mid 90s and it really takes me back there when I hear it now. Thanks for doing it!
This is a lost gem from the 90s. Another lost gem is 'That look in your eyes' by Ali Campbell & Pamela Starks. Very rarely hear them on the car radio but when I do I blast the volume.
It's so funny you said that Amber because this song reminds me of summer as a child!!!!
You must do Hopeless! You’ll love it! ❤
This always reminds me of Tasmin Archer's "Sleeping Satellite," which came out around the same time.
Hey I am 60 years old heard this song many times...I also did not know it was a black lady singing.
I'm in my 50's and I still play this full blast on the way to work!
"Give the people what they want"! I want some Edith Piaf.
I remember this great song!!!
